Nice MOTU book in the background. Gotta get that one. I love to see the practical application videos. Always gives me new ideas and sometimes even confirmation on my own solo training.

These videos are very good and interesting, the techniques shown are from the oral tradition of the MJER book and some of the techniques are in the MJER Koryu katas as well, there might be slight differences between the Koryu kata and the oral tradition but the heart of the technique is still there.

I’m an Eishin Ryū practitioner (I’ve been practicing for nearly a decade). I don’t recognise some of the techniques towards the end of the video, but I’ve been told many times that techniques can be interpreted differently even by offshoots of the same dojo. At the end of the day, we are practicing a Martial Art that is well over four hundred years old, a lot of the time without any manual. Things will change with each Sensei’s interpretation of techniques, styles would stagnate and never improve if everything was done exactly the same way! Like you said, at least they are doing it. As long as they are practicing safely and seriously, I’m all for it!

Are there any bushido/ninjutsu teachers who aren't overweight middle-aged dudes?

Well there is a difference between retreating to regroup or just simply desertion from the military. That in my opinion is a coward in ancient times or even now.
