WHAT TO DO If Your Sales Are SLOW! Reselling Tips for MORE SALES on Poshmark, eBay, and Mercari

As an antique dealer and long -time vintage clothing dealer of 30 yrs now--typically this time of year is slow--people are shopped out from Christmas and many people are preparing for vacations and getting ready by buying bathing suits or saving their money for vacation.... I have found that the best thing to do is just keep cleaning, sorting and listing. The truth is the more items you have on the higher your items show up in the search engine..... the other easy thing you can do is just go in and edit some things on your listing.... mark it up or mark it down! Also your rating as a seller matters so be sure your customer service is great! Spreading yourself too thin across a lot of venues or platforms can reek havoc on your sales and your business.....being organized is huge as your business grows. Thank you for your perspective! It will all be okay. First quarter is always slower for me. (I've been selling online for 23 years). People don't have the same amount of disposable income to spend online after Christmas. People are also getting ready to pay taxes and plan for vacations. It will pick back up. Since I know this slow down is coming, I try to plan & budget for it ahead of time. I focus on sourcing and listing during first quarter.

Thank goodness, Poshmark listened for a change!!! I just noticed today, that there was a message from Poshmark that they are now changing the sort feature back to " Just shared ". They state this will start Today! Yayyyyy!!! :) Just saw this, and thought I'd share with everyone!! :)

Great video, Becky! I only sell on eBay and I have about 200 items in my store. I promote everything at either 7% or what eBay suggests, whichever is higher. I also have offers enabled for all my listings as I don’t see a drawback for that and heard it helps the algorithm. I also do 1-day handling time and allow domestic returns as I think that helps with sales and is a requirement to be a “top-rated seller.” Last year, I did about 35k in gross sales and my net profits after COG, fees, and shipping was about 55% of gross which I was happy with. I have limited space, so keeping my inventory low is key. It’s also part-time for me. I should get into Posh, but have been too lazy so far. I appreciate your videos and other KZbinrs who I really learn a lot from!!

Ok. So… revelation!!! I have been selling on ebay for a few years and I do end and sell similar periodically on eBay but not as often as I should because…. I HAD NO IDEA I could do them all at once. I usually end them in bulk and then I open each one individually and sell similar. I had no idea I didn’t have to go into each listing. Holy moly. I will try this tomorrow morning.

Spoke to ebay rep who confirmed search not working correctly due to updates. Hopefully will get back to normal soon. However whatever change happened on Poshmark has benefited me tremendously. Sales have doubled over past week

I have gravitated to Facebook Marketplace over the last year and my sales are much better. One thing to note is "product tags". It's a must do but when you use the "Delete and Relist " button they all go away. So I recommend using the "Delete and Relist " feature (which is great) and then tweak the listing and add new product tags back in.

My sales are a little slow, but now I am continually getting action on inventory I wouldve previously considered "stale" (share, likes, purchases, etc). Items I thought would NEVER move are selling, but unfortunately I've had them a while so most of them are priced fairly low.

Right before watching this I had sent out 30% offers to likers on Posh to try and drum up some sales. Definitely a good tip since you're targeting everyone who has already seen and liked your items and not having to rely on them finding it now. I'd love an update in a few weeks as to if you see a difference in your Depop sales after changing the shipping. I do okay on Depop. 22 items sold so far and I started there in November or December. I don't do anything special really, just a little more picky with what I post to try and keep it relevant to the audience. I've thought about changing my backgrounds from plain white to colorful because that seems to be popular, I just haven't felt like making the effort. Maybe now is the time!

I have Best Offer on my Ebay store, it’s better than Poshmark’s offer system because you can set your lowest price while creating your listing when you put Best Offer on and you won’t get those annoying lowball offers unless you go back and forth with counteroffers.

I feel like EBay is all I need. I do have Mercari but not impressed with it. We are all different but I am not going to pay for list perfect or anything else of the sort. It’s just more money going to someone else. Chris on Daily Refinement doesn’t recommend those services or using several platforms and his arguments resonate with me.All that said, you are my absolute favorite! Blessings!

Love your point at the very beginning! It’s okay to speak out our opinions but at the same time WE are the owners of our business and sometimes we have to pivot & react. Sometimes it’s easier to get caught in the echo chamber that is social media. I ran a Valentine’s Day sale today using my shoppers and was super successful. Hi!! Thanks for the tip on bulk offers on posh. I didn't know how to do it and that quick screenshot helped tremendously!! For depop, the most common complaint is sellers pricing too high. So I make sure my pricing is super reasonable. Free shipping doesn't matter if shoppers think the price is too high to begin with. What does well for me are costumes, cosplay pieces, very unique clothing items that aren't mass produced, and trendy vintage (like 90s high-waisted mom jeans!). Depop is a lot of fun, good luck!!

I experienced a problem with Poshmark's New Listing algorithm the other day as a buyer. I was looking for a certain pair of black jeans....All I was able to pull up was literally HUNDREDS of listings titled 'Black Jeans'...There was no way I was going to open up a bunch of listings to see what the brand was on those listings....It was ridiculous.

I have best offers on all my eBay listings and just started playing around with promoted listings and had 3 sales yesterday from them. Also going to look into campaigns so I can preset say a 6.5% promoted on all listings for Fri, Sat, Sun then revert back to 2% for Mon-Thur.

I have spent the afternoon trying "hack" the new algorithm. Unfortunately there is something I am missing. Nothing happened when I shared, BUT when I edited/updated my listing it came up at the top of the "recommended" HOWEVER I got up to go to the bathroom and when I came back and re-searched for my item, it was 50 rows down ..but what was odd was that the top listings were still the same, just mine was dropping. I changed the title to "Zara Sweatshirt" that is it...and every time I hit the search button for "Zara Sweatshirt" all the top listings with "Zara Sweatshirt" title again stayed in the same order but mine dropped exactly 9 listings each time I hit the search button and getting passed by random titles.

When you were talking about relisting and sell similar on Ebay I was wondering if you were aware that when you do that the item number on List Perfectly doesn't get updated. I turn on Smart Pricing on most mercari listings but never see the price drop...it's like they aren't really working. The ONE item it seemed to actually work on lately (because it sent me a notification when it dropped the price, which it never has before), was a lululemon item and it dropped it super quickly, it was pointless! Anyone else experiencing Mercari smart pricing glitches? I mean, the app is always glitchy, but that's especially annoying...

We just came out of a pandemic, " barely " and now a resession, Ca gas over $6.00 a gal. people just don't have $$$. Now the Fed lays this new online tax law. Can it get any worse? I've been selling on Ebay for 13 yrs. In the beginning, I sold left over estate sale Items , then selling my own home items. Went to work for local eBay stores selling consignment items. Now I sell over stock supplements " vitamins" and make up. Close out products, going out of business stores, " pandemic buys" I have NEVER seen such a drop in sales as I have in the last 6 mo's. In 13 yrs there has NEVER been a week where I have not had abundant sales, however, this week, I have sold ZERO... Nothing! I'm in shock... Its never happened before, and now with the new tax , I'm seriously thinking, I'll take my left over stock to the swap meet, and then sell off left overs in a garage sale. If things don't change for me this month, I'm on my way out.

I noticed as soon as I hit the next Posh Ambassador level it reset the issues I was having with slow activity in general (for now at least). It seems like they are going to have quarterly “tiers” to work toward. It would be helpful to have that criteria ahead of time, but who know if we’ll get that.

Where did you see that you hit Ambassador II? I checked my stats but it doesn't say anything about the new level, etc. I saw on instagram that somebody messaged posh about this topic and they said that they are rolling the new Amb.levels out in tiers and slowly.

@@keinohrtini It shows in the same place where the regular Posh Ambassador status was. If you have it as an option, it will show you what your progress is. I didn’t have it immediately because you have to have 20000 community shares, so I shared a ton at every party over the weekend. If you want to be proactive for when they do offer it to you, start sharing more if you aren’t at that level already. There are a few other higher targets you need to meet as well (length of time as a regular ambassador, star rating, amount of listings, etc), but I had hit all of those already. Your star will turn to gold when you hit it as well.

If you use the "end and sell similar" option on eBay or the "delete and re-list" option on Facebook you will run into a problem in your cross listing software whether it be Vendoo or List Perfectly in that you won't have your listings automatically deleted when they're sold on a different platform. Right?

Yes it will, but I believe those listings count as new listings anyway when they renew each month.

I don't do free shipping on Depop. I want them to see how much shipping is so they don't include it in their offer; for example if someone likes to ask for 30% discounts, that is less when shipping is not included. Also, favored in a low to high filter. Of course, you are excluded when someone clicks "free shipping", but the Depop search algorithm is so screwy too much strategy doesn't get you that far up.

Essentially, Poshmark has bitten the hand that feeds them and hopefully they will get a clue sooner rather than too later... I respect you, but the term to 'pivot' has been over used and just does not resonate with me... Basically, resellers built Ebay, Poshmark, etc. etc. and we've never been treated fairly.

Yes to best offers. 75%-90% of my sales come from best offers and generally people even offer less than if they used the coupon. Maybe try not ending and selling similar to after it has re listed for 24 hours after it hs ended. If it had a watcher or a viewer it sends a push notification on the list day, first day re listed and you get a bump in traffic for the last 24 hours and first 24 hours for free by eBay vs the promoted chance to be in the top 4 search spots. I like to re list too. But have found success in giving the “watchers” those last chance moments and the bump in results.

There is no such thing as reselling tips. Either buyers buy or they don't as simple as that. It's not something you can control.
