PLEASE HELP ME! I need to know what to do in an emergency when having a “Hyperglycemia” (too high)! Not a “Hypoglycemia” attack (too low)! I can find literally thousands of videos on what to do in a “Hypoglycemia” emergency but none at all on what to do in a “Hyperglycemia” emergency! And please don’t just say call 911/999 there must be something I can do myself immediately (short term) to help lower the blood sugar level, what is it?! Every single day I wake up at 4am ish sweating, shaking, having dizziness, blurred vision, feeling sick, sometimes vomiting, with a high thirst, like I’m fighting an infection (I don’t have a spleen so I’m on antibiotics for life). I’m also a stoma patient with an ileostomy meaning I can’t eat a diabetic diet. From all that you would think my blood sugar would be low but every time I do the reading my blood sugar is through the roof and continues climbing! So please, please, please, what do I do in this situation? There must be something I can do in an emergency to help lower the blood sugar immediately, what is it? Please help me, this happens every day at 4am ish and it is literally driving me insane!

Thank you for reaching out, I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Here's a link to NHS advice on hyperglycaemia www.nhs.uk/conditions/high-blood-sugar-hyperglycaemia/ . However, your symptoms (like feeling sick and vomiting) are concerning and you should promptly seek professional medical attention.

I have your meter and would like to know which reading's are too high and which readings are too low. For instance I used the meter for the first time today after breakfast and got a reading of 12.2

Your reading should always be between 4.0 and 9.0 mmol. It’s ideal to aim for 5 to 8 to feel your absolute best.
