I’ve heard of so many people who visit Sleepy Hollow, New York, with the expectation that it’s going to be like Salem, Massachusetts.
.
That could not be any less true! Salem, and Sleepy Hollow are two entirely different places with entirely different focuses, even in October.
.
In this video, I’ll go over what there is to do in Sleepy Hollow in October, and why it’s so different from Salem. If you’re looking for a spooky, witchy town that’s similar to Salem, Sleepy Hollow, quite honestly, is not the place.
.
But, if you come in October, there are still plenty of spooky things to do! Align your expectations for Sleepy Hollow properly with the help of this video! #spooky #sleepyhollow #legend #salem #salemcity #spookyseason #traveling #headlesshorseman #halloween #october #spookytown

Man thank you for this. I was 50/50 on which one to visit thinking they both were the same when it came to spooky culture but your explanation makes sense in their differences. Looks like ill start off with Salem but Sleepy Hollow is still a must in my list!

This is a great break down on what to expect. I went to SH recently over Labor Day weekend and understood that this town is all about history and heritage. Thanks for sharing! 💛 ☀️

This was such an informative video! I’m planning a Salem trip for next year and would definitely want to visit sleepy hollow in the future. I’m a huge history nerd (makes sense since I’m a history teacher lol) and it sounds right up my alley. I appreciate you!

Salem and Sleepy. Two different places entirely. Ive been to both for Halloween Festivities. I prefer Sleepy. The nostalga and historical ambience is so enticing in my opinion. I was captivated by Irvings story when I was a young child. This was a great video. Thank you. I think I will sub you. And................Happy Halloween. (in advance)

Back in 1982, I rode from Cleveland (Ohio) to New England. I stopped by Salem (Massachusetts). I received quite a few stares from the locals. I had waist-length hair and beard, and I was clad from head-to-toe in black leather. Having a beautiful chopper as my ride made quite an impression on the townspeople, either. Ha! I kept envisioning me and my bike being burned at the stake by the ancestors of Puritans! Ha! All kidding aside, I loved Salem, Mass --- a bit pricey, but it was my kind of town. Oh yeah, I once visited some family in London (UK). Whilst in London, I visited Highgate cemetery. I found that to be very interesting. Thanks, Hexes and Horrors.

I'm driving from New Hampshire to Virginia next week with my kids and SH is going to be our mid way stopping point. I like historical stuff, and hopefully my kids will find something interesting there, too. 😁

I'm from East TN, so we've got many of our own Southern Gothic tales and many people are far more respectful of the supernatural. We cling to our traditions strongly here, almost fearfully so in fact. It angers me when others, locals and outsiders both, don't show the proper respect for certain locations or for the dead. Regardless of if you believe in things that can't be explained or not, one should always be respectful at the least. Nowadays, people show more respect for the sexuality of those they'll never meet than they show to the dead. Many traditions were put in place to protect people. There are places you just do not go, things you just don't do. Maybe we're more in touch with our pagan roots, more accepting of the strange. The hills hide much and there are caves only fools dare to tread. Listen to the advice of locals. Stories like Johnny Boy in Three Forks, Tate Calls, the Beast of Batley Woods, and so on aren't meant to draw curiosity, only warn you. Johnny's still trapped in the Civil War, trying to get back home. Tate Calls happen because they flooded Tate Valley when many Tates and Scales were still living there. The Beast...well, no one knows, but I've seen tracks, eyes, and heard noises that, as a hunter since boyhood, I still can't explain and I avoid that place as the moon waxes. I grew up in these woods, so I know what does and does not belong by sound, sight, and scent. Something lurks in those woods that ought not be there.

I'm from maryland, born and raised. But if I ever had the chance to move to another place off the east coast, it would be Tarrytown/sleepy Hollow, NY. It looks like a nice little community and it looks like a nice place to live. Can I hear the food alone is definitely worth the trip ☺️🎃

That's so interesting! I feel like even still they could do more, but the last two years they've really added some cool shows & events so there's more of a variety! Definitely sounds like a big change since then!

LONG lines to get into sights in Salem, and you may not even be able to get a ticket. Massive traffic so get there early if you want to park anywhere near town. Lots of souvenir witchy shops and very touristy in my opinion. Not sure about Sleepy Hollow but I am sure it is more my speed with more history and charm, river views. I am sure either would be alot of fun. Older folks will have trouble with the crowds in Salem, the walking, the general Maneuvering among so many people, waiting for tables in eateries, etc.

Is it expensive to live in sleepy hollow? 🎃
@HexesandHorrors
@HexesandHorrors 9 ай бұрын
We were able to find rent within our price range, but it was less than fancy! It is pretty expensive being Westchester County unfortunately. To put it in perspective, what we paid to rent a 1 bedroom ($1970) is the same price as our mortgage in PA for a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. 👀
