My oldest ancestor in America was the first minister of the Old Dutch Church. He was also the minister for the Dutch church in Tappan, NY where British spy John Andre was tried. I've always loved my family's connection to this church and legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow used to be called North Terrytown . However a few yeas ago they change their name to Sleepy Hllow to cash in on the tourist trade. This is also where Washington Irving is buried. He had this town in mind when he wrote the story.

As a child I grew up in Upstate, way Upstate right where the indent is from Lake Ontario. I had been to Sleepy Hollow being an absolute fan of horror from the ripe old age of 5...that would place it at 1965! You missed the Rip VanWinkle house also in Sleepy Hollow! I absolutely adore "Baby Ghoul" as you are me back in the day! I love everything about the two of you and your precious love for each and tremendous storytelling! Long story short I now reside in Farmington, New Mexico...high mountain desert. Breathtakingly beautiful in it's ancient savage ways but oh so different from NY. There are times I miss it so bad I hurt...until winter of course. Which I adore but my body does not. I remember the days of sledding on "Rose Red' on the back street and shaking up a root beer to blast in the then pristine snow for the best sno-cone ever! Oh my......how I miss it. At 63 Baby Ghoul reminds me that physically we age but for us fortunate ones we will always be a child at heart...never change and you sir spin a delightful tale so worth listening to! 👻🦹🧟♀🫂🎃🎃🎃🎃⚰⚰🪦🪦you get the picture...giggle!! My dad insisted she could wait for the end of the show and then he took her to the hospital where I was born just moments after they got there. I was there just after that movie came out and the place looked nothing like it does now. Graves have been moved, trees trimmed, place cleaned up. It sure looks like the town cares for it's heritage now, whereas when I was there they didn't. Not much. The Old Dutch Church i saw was white, wood and looked exactly like the one in the Burton movie including the white picket fence. That seems to be gone now. Fire? Who knows? The town itself had zero tourist stuff. Not a single tourist stuff store. I talked to a few locals. Mostly from PR, they did not like the horseman story at all. Guess all that changed too.

What makes this story interesting is that the Washington Irving story made Ichabod Crane a schoolteacher; the movie, Tim Burton did a fabulous job with the tale as he turned Sleepy Hollow into an early version of Peyton Place with Lady Van Tassel as the 'Village Bicycle' so-to-speak, and Ichabod Crane as a constable investigating the multiple beheadings.

Great video. My wife and I go there for Halloween almost every year. I highly recommend to take the lantern tour at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery during Halloween time. I think they have tours as late as 9-10 pm . Everyone on the tour carries oil lanterns and the creepy factor of the cemetery gets so much better that late at night. Also, you hear people screaming in the distance at the haunted house mixed with chainsaws. The highlight: they bring you inside one of the locked tombs where they filmed a scene from the 1970 film "House of Dark Shadows" . It was the crypt of Barnabas Collins. Also, check out Lyndhurst Estate that also was the filming location for the film. Sunnyside is great on the weekends during Halloween. They have a shadow puppet play, story tellers, etc.

I just want to say that this video warmed my cold dead heart. I visited Sleepy Hollow in 2014 and immediately fell in love. I would love to live there but it's too expensive. Maybe someday. Thank you for making such a lovely video and as the minutes went by, you could really see how much you fell in love with the storybook community too.

My 8th Great-grandfather, Dirk Storm, is buried at the Old Dutch Burial Ground there. He moved to New Amsterdam (New York) in 1685, and became one of the first Dutchmen to record the histories of most of the small villages that would eventually become Brooklyn and Queens. He moved to Sleepy Hollow in 1700 and died there in 1716. His grandson, my 6th Great-grandfather, Capt. Thomas Storm, fought at the Battle of White Plains with the 2nd New York Militia.

Guess I have a new favorite KZbin Channel! Sleepy Hollow is the only "horror" movie I absolutely love. I love both the Disney Version and the Johnny Depp Version!

Crik here too 😂 I'm with Jessica on the level of leaf crunchiness. So disappointing when they look crunchy but aren't. 😂

I appreciate the way this comes across to me as “visual storytelling”. Beautiful chemistry throughout.

This is absolutely breath taking I love history and it looks a lot like where I live in New Zealand. I'm amazed how legit and real the story is from where it's based. Amazing !

I love love love Jessica's NBC purse! I also love her "Beetlejuice green" hair! I myself am a HUGE NBC fan, pretty much anything and everything Tim Burton. I love how you guys present yourselves to the world, and how Jessica is always referred to as "Baby Ghoul"! I think you two are AMAZING, I truly enjoy watching your adventures and look forward to seeing new ones as well! If I am ever in California I would die if I got to meet y'all! 🖤🤍💚

I very rarely comment on KZbin videos but wanted to say how much I enjoy grimmlifecollective. Such a lovely couple and diverse, interesting content. However what prompted me to comment was just how well shot and edited your videos are. I know nothing about camera’s but whatever you’re using it is superbly clear. Long may your channel continue! Best of wishes from UK 🇬🇧

So much yes! My fascination with the life of author Washington Irving all began with watching and falling in love with Disney’s animated film when I was a kid! Fun fact, as if his contributions to Halloween time weren’t already enough, Irving’s work also set the foundation for how Charles Dickens wrote about Christmas in his own stories, for how the story of a rooftop hopping Santa Claus evolved in America, and for much of the way we still view and celebrate “Old Christmas” traditions today ! I hope you are eventually able to go back and film your visit to Sunnyside. This entire video is amazing, thank you for your incredible attention to detail. Also, you and your wife are just adorable, what a beautiful love! 💚 cheers :)
