Agreed. I wondered about the electricity and water as well. In a Google Maps tour, I believe I spotted a couple of wind turbine farms. As for water, I believe they collect rainwater, though I may be talking out of my a*s as I really don't know. I love the nerd-aspect of things as well.

@@bubblehead78 Yeah that must be one of the ways of collecting drink-able water for them. The island seems to be much better than Pitcairn so yeah it must've more alternatives than just collecting rain water. And yeah info about electricity & internet is a must.

Visited St Helena in Sep 2019. I was able to stay for 2 weeks and could have stayed much longer. I'm glad that you also found the Saints amazingly friendly. That is one of the things that I tell everyone when I talk about my trip. I stayed at the area known as the Briars, just really next door to the Pavillion. Many post walks including the hike to Diana's Peak. Just hanging out with the locals in the Standard, one of the pubs in town and watching Cricket and swapping stories is one of my most treasured memories of a once in a lifetime trip.

Yes. The boers were prisoners of war. They were also thrown into concentration camps. The South African Boers are one of the most persecuted people, after the Jews. They are still the minority in South Africa today. Without them there would be no South Africa. Good luck to them and the daily violence and racism they are facing. We here in America wish the boers well.

I'm a college student in my final year studying zoology and botany. I came across this channel because I've been looking up St. Helena a lot lately. I've managed to connect with biologists on the island as I was interested in the terrestrial invertebrates on the island. There was some plans to go there and assist in studies, but I also asked about specimen samples they have. I was going to be getting some in the mail to study for external and internal anatomy, but it looks like that has been postponed for now. Really want to visit and see the island myself in person one day.

My daughter lived on St Helena for six months a good few years ago. She stayed with the George family, who are fellow Bahá'ís. She travelled all the way from the UK on the RMS St Helena - no airport in those days. It took two weeks to get to the island. And two weeks to get home again six months later. Thanks for this video. I first knew about St Helena when I read about Britain’s maritime empire. The British naval vessels would stop here before proceeding to Cape Town en route to India. The description about the island in that book that remains with me till today: “The climate was apparently so salubrious that sick men and unseasoned troops could recuperate and acclimatise quickly”. I really want to feel it one day.

I lived on St Helena from late 2009 to early 2022. Jamestown (sealevel) is warm all year round (occasionally hot) with the humidity seldom above 60%. In the interior (300-450 metres) is misty, cool and damp with humidity usually over 90%. Being in the tropics it should be much hotter, but the Trade Winds prevent the high temperatures. Interestingly, lightning and thunder occurs about every 20 years. Once, we saw lightning on the horizon, but never heard the thunder.

I actually had the opportunity to visit St Helena by boat in February 2018, which also happened to coincide with the last voyage of the RMS St Helena. The island threw a party down by the port which was a ton of fun. Can second Jeb’s claim the the locals are some of the friendliest people out there! One thing to mention is that the WiFi on the island is not what us mainlanders are used to-40 MB/s via satellite for all 4K population when I visited. Jeb’s hotel and Annie’s place had 2 of just 4 public WiFi hotspots in town, which I had to rely upon to communicate with the outside world. It ends up adding yet another (and actually welcome) layer to the isolation on this island. I know there’s been an effort to bring broadband to the island (though idk if Jeb had it when he was there). Also Jacob’s ladder will indeed punish the unprepared on the ascent... Jeb wasn’t kidding! Certainly I’d recommend going sooner rather than later because more tourism, broadband, etc will change the island. Cool video Jeb!

When you initially asked about doing travel vlogs I was behind it 100% and am glad. You've brought your own brand of wit and humour along with you ( if not even more of it) and it works well. As I said before I think you are best placed to decide on whether you integrate the travel stuff into this channel or give it it's own space. That said there are some aviation enthusiasts who ive seen get a bit tetchy about the two subjects being mixed. I'm not one of them but ive certainly seen some negative comments on other creators channels. I'd say keep it up and well a bit of diversification isn't a bad thing imho.

I understand that for many aviation bloggers their interest is in the plane, the airline, and the flight, but as a viewer it's very frustrating sometimes to see someone (not so much Mr. Brooks) fly on an airline I've never heard of to a city I've never heard of, in a country I've barely heard of and all I get to see at the destination is the airport.
