What if it's a constant problem? Or when consequences are giving the child doesnt care? When do you start looking into professional help?
@SoapboxtotheStage4 жыл бұрын
Kim, if the consequence isn't working, then it's not the right consequence. The consequence of a young child stealing should not be punishment, instead, the parent should lead the child in correcting any problems caused by the stealing. I'd be happy to provide more guidance if needed.

I think no punishment is going to make them feel is okay he or she can do it again, I always use methods that worked for us those days, a nice hiding. Our children of today are so messed up and naughty of this noncense of you can't discipline them. There is a big difference in how you discipline. The way I was raised those days works for me, my way or high way.

We have our 15 yr. old in counseling due to stealing our bank card information to purchase online roblox gaming. The theft stopped because of counseling and we as parents discuss this as not a healthy way of life.

That Roblox is a horrible community that teaches children to steal

scare the ever-loving crap out of them by calling the police and having a police officer talk to the child instead of arresting them. Problem solved Growing up I stole things. One time I was caught and instead of protect me from the consequences, my parents allowed the cops to be called. No reasonable officer is going to arrest an 8 year old for stealing a toy. Instead, they will likely turn it into an opportunity to teach owning up to your mistakes, taking responsibility for your actions, how taking something that doesn't belong to you is stealing and lands you in jail. I'm sorry, but parents I've seen let their children do what they want and therefore the child isn't equipped to handle taking responsibility for their actions and thinks it's okay to disrespect their elders, talk back, blame others and lie.

I understand what you are talking about....this gentleman's approach will allow a child to grow into a self entitled little shit then into an adult....

This guy lost me the second he said don’t discipline them, what an idiot! You have to weigh up the situation but my nephew gets all the attention in the world so negative attention is exactly what he needs he never receives discipline and seriously needs it. Stealing is not ok and needs addressing and discipline shows the child there are consequences for their actions. At the very least the child should be made to give back whatever they steal and then depending on the age and severity have a consequence for it, something simple like no electronics for a day or something.

Disowning your child is such a ridiculous solution. How about not leaving your wallet where he can have access to it?
