Hi, i played Black. I'll explain a few of my decisions i made in this game. Firstly i was very lucky to win the war against Red. At 15:00 Red tried to take my cap but instead of making one large 46 stack he attacked with two separate 23 stacks against my 25 cap and lost all his troops. As Pete guessed, i cleaned out the pocket and took his cap, but i kept him alive in the pod under my cap and waited until cards got bigger to take the kill. Now i was stuck behind White's cap with Orange in my pocket. I wanted to secure cards for the future to avoid being card-blocked and decided to protect Orange from White and allow him to trade with me in a safe spot. Once i had a large enough stack i went for White's cap but to my surprise it was empty, i thought white was stronger than he actually was, note that I had no idea about the war between Pink and White that had taken place. Btw, leaving the cap was a really good move by Pete and the only way to not get fourth. 1:00:00. So why did I not kill White here? I knew I easily could have. At the time I thought I didn’t have to, I saw him as dead already because he was capless and i had more than twice his troops. At the same time I didn't know how strong pink was and I knew he was trading with orange on the left side of the map. If I kill White I lose troops and could potentially get myself card-blocked if my remaining troops wouldn't be able to punch through the pink cap. I wasn’t sure of what to do in that situation and I kind of hoped that White would let me go past him so that I could take the Pink cap. In short I decided to play it safe and hope that everyone else eventually would play for second/third as I would have done in their position. I had the most troops and I held the strongest position on the board long-term so as long as I could get cards no one could surpass me and I had all the time in the world to wait everyone out. Who I gave third and second at the end was something I didn't really care much about but i thought White deserved second because I couldn't see any other way he could have played his game and I never saw how Pink played during the entire game. I was just happy that I got the win and I wanted to go to sleep asap.

I love you for posting this here to give us your side of the game. I was wondering, weren't you afraid that orange would get too big if you kept trading cards while protecting him? At what point did you end him on your side of the board or did magenta wrap all the way around somehow?

@@LootableCorpse I wasn't afraid of Orange at all because i had a cap on my side of the board and he had his on the other side. I also have to prioritise getting cards over anything else since thats the only way to survive. I don't recall when i took him out but you can go back and see when i took the bonus. I can add that at one point Orange decided to slam about 100 troops onto my capital for absolutely no reason. Shortly after that i decided to go for whites capital and take orange out of the pocket

1:18:37 you could have hit down with your stack to check, then rolled back what you didn't need instead of splitting as you would have had full vision down there! (you prob would have got 2nd either way but would have been cooler)

I think punching through black in the earlier turns while you had the troop advantage would have been a better play. Pink at that time was no where near your capital so they wouldn't know how many troops you lost. If you took out black's majority position, you could have created an exterior for yourself that would have allowed you to explore further into black's continents, potentially getting the red kill. In fact, when black and red hit each other, it would have been safe to assume both were weak. That would have been a perfect time to go exploring up North. I think that could have changed the outcome of the game.

Hey Pete, Noob at risk. Algo brought me to you a couple days ago and just want to let you know how helpful your videos have been. Somehow, I'm already an intermediate and just survived a noob storm in Europe adv prog. These guys were generating 20-30 troops a turn while i was getting 5. I managed to snipe the other 5 caps in the last two turns of the game. All were left undefended. While I didn't get the world dom I did get the W. Watching your videos should be a requirement for new players!

Pete, you fucked up at the end. If you split the other way, and then took your whole army out the top exit and wrapped around you would have killed pink. But in the end it didn't matter because black gave you both second.

Speaking of doomed. I just played classic advanced world dom I lost my bonus immediately to red who instantly started gaining 20+ troops growing to 30’s and 40’s. I knew at that point I was not getting 1st (I could have died since I had 1 troop 1 territory the blue player failed to realize it was 4 free cards. Eventually I had 2 small stacks in different parts of the map lost one to red trying to kill me then I started to card skip on 1 card to play for 2nd. Did I play this correctly? I ranked up to intermediate from 2nd place I’m satisfied.

Hey man. I really enjoy your videos. I have a question, however. When playing progressive, during the first round of cards (up to five, obviously) is there a benefit to trading early (like, if you're in first position and have a set a 3)? Or should you always wait until you have 5 cards before doing your first trade? Thanks in advance!

Trading early is fine if you're in the first seat and are going to trade first anyway or if you're at risk of death. Other than those it would be very situational

I doubt it, but it seems to me that if everyone follows the "wait until five to trade" unspoken rule, the advantage will forever be with those around the fourth or fifth turn.

If you think you can steal a fairly weak capital when you only would have a few troops more, then it can be worth too to trade early.

That definitely happens some times in prog caps games. You can establish a mutually beneficial relationship with a trading partner to help from getting card starved

I disagree that logic is the root cause for optimism. Sure, it contributes. But with, and only with, the addition of other components, like virtue. Not to mention that it has to be paired with intentionality. "We act as if we care about ourselves. So we probably do". Isn't that statement by itself illogical? Hi Pete! I liked the game, but I honestly disagree with your assessment of your position and I think you made a few vital errors in the game. In prog caps the middle position is great, especially when trades go higher, because you can reverse card block people. The first big mistake you made, in my opinion, was 35:00 when you didn't knock orange out of the pocket you shared with black. At this point, it was clear due to the reinforcements that black had the rest of the north, so eliminating orange from here would have forced black to trade with you, and you would eventually have reverse card blocked them when a trading partner would appear on the pink side of your cap. With black having cleared out the pockets behind their cap, your cap and pink's cap divided the board into 3 trading pockets. Only you and pink had access to two trading pockets, and black would be in the worst position, getting cards on your mercy. Black realized this and therefore defended the orange exterior from you. This left you card blocked instead of them.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy I don't really think so. If they both try to card block you from either side, black would end up reverse card blocked against your cap. So that would not be a good move for them. What could happen is black taking all their cards, then stacking at your cap and slamming or slow rolling it. This would only lose them the game, and would only be a problem for you if pink had vision on your cap and/or did the same thing from the other side. Which is highly unlikely as long as they had someone behind them to fight or card trade with. If black slams your cap and quit, you can kill them or make a bot card farm. But I realize you played this on your stream, and maybe your viewers didn't want to watch a 5 hr game ;-)

@@TheKillPeteStrategy you coulda got first. By intercepting the pink and goin hard on him earlier than just sittin on cap. Or gone harder in on black earlier. But having mid and turtle is how you get at best second. Im impressed how you actually made second. That is incredible. But also , having mid and not takin on the offensive approach is just waiting for the corners to get strong and sandwish u. No, its not that I know how the game ended. I forsaw this when u stoped attackin pink and let him hold a bonus while u held 2. Black had still work to do with Red and you were unthreatned. You are far better than me in almost all play styles. But when it comes to these settings. I play it daily. Fixed and prog. Ive seen many games of you not playin the offensive route at all. And in this specific game. Holdin mid. Sayin ” I get top four” from like turn 4. You could have easiely started pushin out like u did on ur last turns, in turn 5 holding the cap with like 15 troops and forcing pink back, makin u hold more board. And within 3-4 turns holding the entire corner. While black at best woulda been knockin himself bloody on ur God-cap. This game might have been progressive. But it was truly a game of holding board in the end. You could also have cardblocked black 2-3 times and worked him down that way. (You coulda cardblocked the purple player in ur other game aswell ( the spain purple player on europe advance) but did only save all on cap. You won this game! Aplause! But if Yellow had been good you would had a harder time gettin more than second, so to not always cap-stack that high, can be a way for you to get even better) I see flaws in ur playstyles in fog/ice/caps. But I learn alot from you in alot of other playstyles. Have a good one.

It’s funny how people believe in intelligent design then blame it on everything coming from nothing (big bang) then say perfection came from randomness(evolution),those are the two miracles the science has to have to even try and disprove God. Science was created to explain the world that God created( don’t believe me go look that up) even Darwin contradicts himself and said that there had to be a creator. I came to watch risk but if your just gonna to try and pushes lies like they are facts is a unsub for me. Especially for someone to believe in how the world is millions of years old yet hasn’t done research on the dating technique and how more and more scientists are starting to see that the dating is wrong and how to prove this people have created mineral rich water and creat large amounts of different types of stone proven that rocks ain’t as old as we think thus proven that if a large flood happen and wiped out the world it would explain the large forest that turned into oil fields, also how there are pockets of dead Dino and other animals and how there is proof of water fossils everywhere around the world and a lot are above the Dino layer even tho that scientists swear that they are older.
