Thanks guys for your help, it worked. I had a comp start with black monitor, I disconnected everything from my comp and let it sit for 15 min, then I took the side panel off, dust city inside, I vacuumed the entire inside very carefully I might add, I loosened the memory sticks and reset them carefully, that is it. This is a 2006 computer and it rebooted just fine and works great. Thanks Again guys.

I have a desktop computer and I just fixed mine. I had a black screen with a white dash at the upper left hand corner. I tried pressing F2 and F8 and F10. That did not work. Then after watching this video he said to unplug everything that you do not need. I did that. I unplugged the power, printer, speakers and the ethernet from the router. I took the power cord and plugged it in to the actual outlet instead of the power strip. I turned it on and it worked. Thank you. I do not know exactly how I fixed it but it is now fixed.

+Sharon Ross Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer: If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown. If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

My 16 year old HP computer (still using XP) started doing funny things while I was installing Norton 360. The computer started making sounds as if it was in overdrive. I pushed the start/stop button. but it wouldn't stop even after I pressed the button for 10-15 seconds. I had to unplug it. When I plugged it back in a few minutes later, the only things that worked were the power supply fan, the fan on the processor, one green light on the mother board and a yellow light below the start/stop button in the front. Now I can only stop these by unplugging the computer. When I replug the computer, the 4 above features go on right away without using the start/stop button. In other words, the start/stop button is now totally useless. I have tried removing all devices and memory cards and putting them back one by one, but to no avail. The only interesting thing that I noticed was that when the ribbon cable going from the hard disk to the motherboard is disconnected from the hard disk, then the hard disk starts turning. It did the same with the other hard disk I got from a different computer, but still nothing on the screen. HELP. Where does my problem lie?

On my Envy Phoenix 860-050na, the HP Support Assistant was installing 17 updates, one of which opened a separate window, which in turn opened command prompt, which displayed a string of code, and then my computer immediately turned off. It turned back on but the screen stayed black, so I forced it to shut down. Since then it won't even switch on at all. The green light at the back is green so the power cable is not an issue.

Firstly, thank you for this very informative and clear video. I've tried all of the steps you've suggested but I'm still having issues. I have a HP Pavilion desktop running Windows 7. The other day, I activated the guest account, when I logged into the guest account to check the internet connection (it would not connect to the internet through that account, but worked fine on my admin account) the computer froze. I could not shut it down through the the task manager, so I had to power down by pressing the power button. When I tried to power up again, the fans kick on and there is the initial start up beep when you press the power button, but none of the lights on the front of the case, light up. The green light on the back is steady. The monitor searches for a signaI, but doesn't find it and goes into sleep mode. I tried all the cables. I opened it up, vacuumed it out, removed and reset all the memory, checked the internal connections, but no dice. It still gives me the initial beep, and the fans turn, but no lights and no OS. Any suggestions? Thanks

let's say some bout a used HP7700 convertible minitower. was happy cause it was a good deal , and the fact that it had extra stuff with it like a graphics card and wireless PCI adapters, nice heatsink etc and just got it and went home, plus it in black screen. opens her up and is positive there isn't even a Hard drive. Should they put one of there spare ones in, or will it not help? and if not would I hurt of I just used some of the remaining parts/components on a different build, or could that compromise the integrity of that on as we'll. any input. would be much appreciated . and what are the chances of em buying two with almost the exact same thing2nd is also missing also .

Hello my fan was making a lot of noise yesterday and today when I tried turning on my computer it's completely dead, the blue light does go on but I can't hear the fan at all and there is nothing on the screen it's completely black.Could it be that the fan was exhausted and will I need to replace it? I also have another question,I have a lot of documents on my harddrive,can I transfer them to my laptop with a DVI cord even if I can't turn on my PC at all?
@HPComputingSupport7 жыл бұрын
+dancingqueen1978 If you notice that the system fan spins and is blowing warm air from the computer, clean the exterior vents to remove dust buildup by blowing air through the vent openings. Do this while the computer is off. Dust can accumulate inside the vent opening and around internal cooling components, This document pertains to HP desktop computers: hp.care/2tWjY3n And you can open up the computer, pull the hard drive, connect it to another computer and get the files off of your hard drive using the other computer. (You could also put it in an external enclosure if you have one, but if not, you should be able to put it in a new PC without any extra hardware.)

Thanks HP for the video! This was a very helpful video. I wish I had come across this video before I got rid of one of my other computers that I really liked a lot. Have a great day guys! :-)

+LENOVOVO With the number of times we "chat" I would have thought you would have checked on KZbin. But no worries, you know the video is here. And don't forget that quite often we have support documents that are tailored more to your specific model/product and/or the operating system that you are using. Once again, you have an amazing Holiday Season and thanks for the lovely sentiments. :)

My HP EliteDesk 705 G2 Mini will not power on after all cables, including the power cable were disconnected and the unit was left in the closet for one month. Now, once the power cable is connected I get the red light flashes twice, and then four, short white light flashes with beeps corresponding with each flash of the light. I have tried two different PSUs, attempted to power on the unit without the memory module, replaced the factory memory module with two other memory modules from another EliteDesk computer, and I blew out the dust. I still haven't gotten it to power on. What could be the problem?

@@liaa2951 Ha ha! Yeah, that's funny. 😁 I'm familiar with troubleshooting techniques with computers, so after taking more time to narrow down possible problems I determined that the motherboard is dead. I found one online for $80 that I used to replace the old one.
