I can also confirm that it’s possible to take a mid-cut of the stem with no leaves on it, stick it in water and it can root and regrow. I imagine a prop box would work too.

I agree with you. Aglaonema are an underrated plant. I had a Siam pink growing in my office and it was such a gorgeous drama-free plant. I ended up giving to a coworker because she likes pink plants. I’ve been wanting to replace it but I haven’t as of yet. I may go see what’s available at Lowe’s or HD.

Hey! Funny, mine got leggy and fell over, I cut it back and I have little growth points showing up along the remaining stems. I put the cut portions in water, last time I did that it took a long time and the leaves died off. So I planted them in the mother pot and after a while, they sprouted. So for me, it seemed to take a long time to regrow, but at least it did regrow!

This video is encouraging me to try water propagating mine again. Lost patience with the long, long wait for any roots to appear. Problem was probably the light level was too low. I have a huge Silver Bay aga and it often has the sugar things, but (knock on wood) no pest for the 4 years I grown it

Thank you Jeff! This was well timed as I have several Aglaonema rooting in water on my dining room table, looking lovely, and I wasn’t sure how long the roots need to be before potting them in soil. Mine are ready. The tip to bunch them together a bit like a bouquet I was also helpful. I’ve tried propagating wet sticks in both sphagnum moss and soil, but they did nothing and eventually rotted. Have you ever tried that method?

I don't think I've ever used a prop box for these cuttings.... I've always had really good success with just water.

You can’t repot and prune back at the same time, can you? I have one that has compacted soil and should get fresh soil, it also needs pruning back. I was assuming I either repot or prune, then wait a few months to do the second step.
@EverythingPlants23 күн бұрын
I would re-pot first. The plant needs a sufficient root system to push out growth. So I'd give it some fresh soil and prune when it is actively growing ....typically spring or summer

@kbm440929 күн бұрын
I have 3 silver bays I'm propagating and the leaves have curled inward. Why does the leaves do that? I've read it's because the roots are not formed and no uptake of nutrients is happening, is this the case? Will it fix itself once it has roots?
@EverythingPlants29 күн бұрын
Did you put them directly into soil? I would agree that it's a root problem or lack of roots

01:45 I would repot them into taller pot/vase and bury the stems all the way up to the just below the white parts of petioles. Problem solved 🤣 Then, couple months later, probably all nodes would have roots and plants growing out which would create a new problem... too many plants crowded in one pot 🤭
