Couldn't have said it better! My husband is (Active) Army and I'll be dropping a packet for OCS soon. We were high school sweethearts and my husband and I both were pulled into credit cards, car notes, and those little kiosks they have at the exchange. A year after we said "enough is enough" we're out $17,000 in debt and working hard to get rid of the bit we have left. It's so important for you to use KZbin to reach out and explain the importance of being mindful with your money because people target the military community like crazy!! We bought a Jeep from an auto sales place here in Germany that was right outside of a small base and were able to talk them down about $4,000. People really need to stay educated. Keep it up, Great video!!

I had a 2.1 gpa in highschool. I got an 84 asvab. I have no college experience... And they offered me $20,000 for my MOS. They offer the bonus based on how much they need people in that MOS. Not based off the job or your grades. P.s. anything over 10k, you will get 10k after bootcamp and the rest in monthly payments for the remainder of your enlistment. So for me I will get 10k after basic, and then the other 10k will be divided between 300 paychecks so basically $33 extra dollars every check. So anything over 10k should not make you scream with enthusiasm unless your gifted at saving money and will gather that 33 every 2 weeks and save it. P.s. my contract is for 3 years 18 weeks.

The stock market is a great place to invest that money. Mutual funds require minimal know-how. An S&P 500 mutual fund is a very good, simple, safe long-term play. Even that first 50% after taxes, $6,061 invested in a S&P 500 mutual fund for 5 years, would nearly double in just 5 years' time, using the S&P 500 historical rates of return for 2012 thru 2017. It would have become $11,053 just for letting it sit there. Stocks CAN go down, but long-term they have always gone up.

@firacingast4 жыл бұрын
Matt, you hit the jackpot with that $300 mobile home! Even if you decide to sell it you could easily, without a doubt make multiple times what you've spent on it! Here's my 0.02 as someone who's not in the military but is really interested in finance. Small bonuses (5-10k), I'd put it immediately into retirement money. I'd honestly start a Roth IRA with that money, reinvest the dividends and earn 7% interest back on it. 5-10k is very little money to get into real estate with, so if this is your bonus start a retirement fund (outside of the military's) and let it grow there. Save up your income from your time in the military and when you get out use it to get a duplex. Just to show how much 5k turns into in a Roth IRA lets assume you start yours at the age 20 and only ever put 5K into it and then you reinvest your dividends. By the time you're 63 it will be worth $98,000. Now let's say you put in 5k annually. By the time you're 64, it will be worth $1.6 million. If your bonus is 10k, and you put 5k in annually it becomes 1.75m with 225k contributed so it's about $1.5m growth that you'll take into retirement. For larger bonuses (20-40k) I'd save it and invest it into real estate when you're out. Look up Graham Stephan's video on house hacking for the most efficient way to utilize this money, or just read the rest of my comment (although what I'm going to say below only applies to married people). For married people getting a large bonus, you get BAH almost immediately in the military. Once you get BAH, I'd look into duplexes and take out a mortgage on one. You are not restricted to renting property with your BAH so use your BAH income to create a permanent source of income! With a duplex, you can do what's known as house hacking. Basically, you can live in one half of the home and rent out the other half. Your BAH + the rental income will basically mean you live there for free throughout your time in service. Once you're out, you've already gotten a few years of this mortgage paid off. Ideally you'll have saved up enough of your bonus and your in-service income to purchase a 2nd duplex and can then rent 3 units and live in the 4th. Pocket your residual income and put it into retirement funds. If you're not into real estate or property management, you can just put all of it into a Roth IRA and let it grow. 40k turns into almost 2.4million with a 5k annual contribution. Also, as a lesson younger and dumber me wishes I knew, always keep money on hand for personal emergencies. If you're single, I'd say $3,000 in emergency savings is enough to cover most things if you're insured. If you're married, save $7500 just in case + $2500 for each kid.

Nah let me let you in on my secret for some good money. use it to buy cars on auction with hail damage. Even 2018 BMW's selling for 300-4000 for auction and can just do some simple fixes and sell it for 20k or so. $$$ then rinse and repeat. You'll be swimming in money
