Is a Bad Diet to Blame? With Dr. David Perlmutter
In this week’s series of The Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast, we are honored to have friend of the show Dr. David Perlmutter return for a discussion centered around his new book “Brain Wash.” Dr. Perlmutter and the Amens explain the fascinating reason why the poor decision-making and ‘us vs. them’ mentality in our society could be attributed to the changing function in certain areas of the brain as a result of our highly inflammatory diet.
Brain Wash: How to Clean & Rewire Your Brain, with Dr. David Perlmutter
The recent explosion of technology into human life has brought with it an unexpected side effect: Our brains have been rewired in such a way that our physiology is not yet able to process the stimuli effectively. In the second episode of a series with “Brain Wash” author Dr. David Perlmutter, the discussion is on how we can revert our brains to a purer state, allowing us more control over our lives.
What Current Health Trends Can You Trust? with Dr. David Perlmutter
Current health trends often focus on cleanses you can do to clear toxins out of your body. But, as Dr. David Perlmutter states, we must also clear toxins from our mind. In this episode of The Brain Warrior’s Way Podcast, Dr. Daniel Amen, Tana Amen, and Dr. Perlmutter describe how ‘digital rabbit holes’ manipulate us to feel inadequate, and how we can train our brains to avoid them.
What to Eat: How to Stop Eating Poorly, with Dr. David Perlmutter
We all know that eating the right foods plays a HUGE role in how we feel, but we often forget that our bad eating habits make it much more likely for us to continue to make poor decisions, thus enabling us to choose to eat more bad food. In the fourth and final episode of a series with “Brain Wash” author Dr. David Perlmutter, the Amens and Dr. Perlmutter give you tips for breaking out of the cycle of bad habits.

Both of you have been a part of my decision to go down to working only 3 days a week in the clinic so that I can ADD working 3 days a week directly with patients in a group setting. I recognized early on patients have trouble applying what they learn. This helps no one and is frustrating to me as their doctor! So now I am going deeper to help them by literally holding their hand so that every day for 3 months they can habituate a healthy diet and exercise routine while their bodies and brains heal and move forward in a positive direction. Thank you for all the work that you do which enables me to share it with them to MAKE IT PART OF REAL LIFE LIVING!! You guys are heroes!!! BRAVO!

Go into an all-you-can-eat buffet and look at the people. Most are overweight, move slowly with apparent joint issues, faces tired and lined, painful expressions. I have empathy for them and wish I could help educate them. My friends and family tune me out and so now I just pray for them.

I am so glad that I read Grain Brain in December 2014, and adhered to all of Dr Perlmutter's regime in January 2015, and still doing it, read Brain Maker, and now reading Brain Wash! Thank you all for helping me get well, and keeping well.

My mother is 96 and has Dementie. She is exactly who you are talking about. Ice cream, cookies and anti-depressants. She is in a nursing home because she wants to do NOTHING EXCEPT SLEEP. She was ungrateful even though I did everything for her. I am grateful for you and your son and love your books. I have changed my diet completely, the opposite of my mothers. Thank you so much.

It's become much more clear that the world within us is very much the world reflected back to us outside of us when you see all the similarities. I mean we are basically run by Amygdala control systems of government, etc. for example because thats the dominant system running our own bodies. Now I know what to work on - my health. Thank you for this show! So valuable.

Most doctors don't follow through. 4 doctors have seen my metabolic acidosis and have done nothing but wrap my legs with ace wraps over the bandages that hide the wounds that are constantly draining down into my shoes. I don't eat that many carbohydrates. So this swelling of my legs must have started when I stopped exercising. And I wasn't thinking of fiber as being important at that time. Applesauce does not have very much fiber. I thought I was eating fruit. I didn't even think of fruit as being carbohydrates. BUT, I had just started reading Dr. Young's books about the alkaline beings that we are. Our bodies regulate us between 7.35 pH and 7.45 pH on a constant basis, unless we eat too many acidic foods. The swelling of my legs and the wounds started around October of last year. The nursing home I am in now serves processed foods with little fiber. I expected this "nursing" home to help me get well, but I am still exactly the same. I have had a hard time telling them I need salads and fruits. They say their processed foods are healthy. Even the nutritionist says there is no basis in serving veggies and fruits. That tells you how screwed up this place is. After all, they are for profit. I am told that medicaid and medicare tells them what foods to serve. Seems like to me that these are corporations that want us to be sick. Just imagine all of the people with dementia in this place getting their memories back if only they were served the proper fibrous foods.

Food is a gift to nourish us. Carnivore is a very restrictive way of eating and living. It may be good as an elimination diet? Long term? Maybe not.

Currently reading The Grain Brain. Going gluten free to see if I can reverse my Sclerosing alopecia. In liaison with GP have ceased statin meds to reduce LDL cholesterol levels which Dr Perlmutter states are important, and not the way to go. Family history of stroke and heart disease. Im confused.

I'd love to make the effort to "stop eating poorly," in fact I do eat reasonably healthily by many people's standards, but I don't have the financial wherewithal to eat animal foods often, so subsisting on grains and veg, pulses and small amounts of dairy is within my budget and even that's a struggle. As for supplements? Out of the question!

This is the 2nd one of these "Grain-Brain" videos I've watched that, IMO, is misleadingly titled. There's very little information about "what to eat," until about 38 minutes in. And then, what you get is scant indeed! 😉

I do have a question. So let's say we are eating meat and that cow or whatever had inflammation in its body. Inflammation from the food it was eating and environmental it was in when it is slaughtered, won't those enzymes transfer to us when we eat that piece of meat?

Good information, but some of it slightly backward. It is not that patients do not follow the direction of their physician, it's that they sometimes DO follow the directions of their physician. Those directions include: don't eat eggs or butter, but do drink orange juice. Carbs are inherently good for you. Don't worry, we'll put you on statins and insulin when you are 50 and all will be well. Fact is, doctors are terrible at nutrition advice, still order old fashioned labs and interpret those labs in inaccurate ways. Doctors are the first to be brainwashed (in the negative sense of that term).

My first time on this podcast. I bailed. Here’s why: they are talking over each other, each wants to add to the convo but points they make are either very personal, or just simply boring. Therefore the podcast drags. And lastly there is no good reason for Mrs Amen (I gather she’s the missus: nobody introduced her) to be showing cleavage. It diminishes her role on the show, is my view as a professional woman. It she wants to be taken seriously, cover up. If hubby wants to show off a trophy wife to male viewers, then he nailed it. I’m not an audience for this channel, though, and I’m sure as a woman I’m not alone in my views. Comment shared respectfully, and albeit frank. Best of luck to you and your channel.
