The English subtitles are really very bad translations and its very funny. And I think there is some confusion on the local cuisine. They dont eat toads but they eat frogs, as is very common in SEAsian countries. Frogs are nutritious but toads are tough and can be poisonous. In any case its enjoyable watching you guys enjoy the sights and sounds especially the food in HK. Its a great place for these..............

HongKong is one of my favorite countries in the world and i used to visit it almost yearly until this recent political unrest and pandemic we're facing right now. I missed the food, shopping, fashion, night markets, the diff. theme parks among others! I even promised myself that if i ever won from a lottery, i would immediately fly and reside in HK, lol !! 🙄🤔😘from a Pinay🇵🇭living in Australlia🇦🇺

Thank you Jimmy for this beautiful overview of Hong Kong foods! I was born and raised in Hong Kong but moved to Canada when I was 13. The reason why there's no more food carts and "street food" is because during the late 80's/early 90's, The Health Department in HK deemed street food unsanitary. They didn't want people to get food poisoning or sick (esp tourists) from the streets, so they offered to move them up to indoor markets or shops. That's why there's no more "street food" left in HK, unlike most places in Asia. Your videos is an amazing way to travel during this lockdown. Take care and stay safe!

Those domestic helpers are out there every Sunday, not just public holiday. Their working visa require them to live with their employers. So they prefer not to stay "home" on holidays. And HK is so lack of public space therefore they gathers on spaces in the streets.

HK used to have mobile food carts selling all kinds of food, especially around lunch and dinner time, but the government put them out of business some 25 years ago for sanitary reason. The government closed most of the roadside restaurants also. Now they must be inside a building. They used to smell so good when you passed by one of them.

The street food carts vanished over the last few decades. Used to be popular and then illegal, and it appears it’s all disappeared now into shops. Similar to what Bangkok has been going through over the last few years.

Philippines have their version of that soft tofu. Its quite commonly sold in stainless steel buckets found hawked in the early morning. Usually found in street corners or hawked around the town. Try it next time to compare.They add sweet sugar syrup and small tapioca balls to add texture. Its eaten as a breakfast/snack as its quite healthy and nutritious.

@Kwijiboi
@Kwijiboi 3 жыл бұрын
I love that tofu. We usually don't mix it up as it breaks up the tofu. You will notice that they carefully scoop it as large sheets. Mixing it breaks it up into small curds, which is ok too. I prefer to keep it intact as I prefer that texture. Unlike American soy milk, which is thick, creamy, and often flavored (for example, with vanilla), Chinese soy milk is much more subtle and light. You can taste a nice light tofu taste and gentle sweetness. Two methods to sweeten. Syrups- plain and ginger, are used if you want to keep that silky texture. Ginger if you like that, plain syrup if you enjoy soy (i like plain). The other option is called yellow sugar (the guide called it brown sugar as thats what most foreigners are familiar with). Some like the sugar as it adds a crunchy texture to contrast with the silky tofu. Pick your preference. In addition to flavor, the texture is judged - how the tofu feels in the mouth. The syrup vs granulated sugar is important in that context. I loved this so much in hong kong that I learned how to make it myself from dried soybeans. I love and miss hong kong so much.

The reason it was "quiet" was because it was National Day and a full on riot was taking place elsewhere in HK

30 kilo Goose... Are you sure? That's 66 pounds. That seems a bit much. That's enough to feed 30 people...maybe they were saying 13 kilos.

Food carts were banned years ago. I've been going there for 26 years and I remember they would be set up in Causeway Bay and then someone would shout "Police" and they'd all scatter.

Hong Kong was a safe city that attracted a lot of tourists who went to Asia in the past. In consideration of the ongoing protests, I do not recommend travelling to Hong Kong at present. Instead, travellers may go to mainland China.

Nah I'm in HK once a month I've never had any issues in the past 6 months. I usually just ignore people who protest and riot. Most of them throw a bunch of stuff in the street then stand around like they are bad asses then run away when the police are about to show up. Most people don't wanna go through the trouble of getting a Chinese visa even though there are a hell of a lot of interesting places to go see.
