The best vegetable in the world for constipation is OKRA. Saute with garlic and oil, do not cut, as the slimy substance will come out and most people do not like the taste of it. Keep it whole and saute only until it turns slightly dark green, only for about 1 or 2 minutes. It should be still firm and have a slight crunch to it. You can add some spices if you like but I used garlic salt, just a bit, not a salt lover. I usually choose the small Okra and still green, not the yellowish ones as they are a bit older and tougher. Okra also is good in batter and fried, but it is healthier when sauteed. I had a friend who had a problem with constipation and she suffered for 4 days not being able to go. I made her the sauteed Okra and didn't tell her the effect of this powerful little veggie. The next day she told me that it worked like a "BOMB" and she felt sooo great and relieved. So, try it, folks. This is a thousand times better than any other fruits or veggies. No need for med. You will love it, and please, thank God for His creation.

My sister suffers from constipation. Everything recommended doesn't work. But one day I offered her roasted chestnuts and do our surprise it worked. She has been consuming chestnuts everyday now and it works without fail every day. So, when all else fails, take roasted chestnuts.

I've cut out garlic, onions, Grains and dairy and it's literally changed my life for the good! I've struggled with constipation off and on for 20 years and for the first time I can poop normally! I've also added chickpeas and have limited my red meat intake and I eat small amounts.of other meats. I feel great! And I don't eat large salads cuz too much fiber will constipated me so I have small salads.

Dairy in all forms was the biggest constipation culprit for me. Eliminating dairy eliminated constipation. Then adding food with fiber and resistant starch bulked up my poops so that pooping is quick and complete.

I had a bad spell of blockages causing a visit to hospital, the advice cut back in fibre...too much whole grains and legumes caused my blockages and they advised increase soluble fat from meat, prunes and olive oil. That was 10 years ago and never suffered since. Almost every senior I know who use Metamucil have bladder infections and more frequent constipation....do not rely on over counter meds folks,
@carascottvo

Preach it. Where did you go that you actually got good advice? That's a good hospital. New research is coming out that the whole "fiber is good for us and helps constipation" is a myth. A lot of people have reduced or eliminated fiber and gotten lots of relief. The closer I get to a carnivore diet, the better I feel!

meat? meat constipates.no fiber. takes forever to leave long human intestines (at least 22 feet long) as opposed to carnivore animals who have intestines around 5 feet,eat meat raw full of liquids,exits their system quickly.

Im having lower left abdomen pain. Stops mostly unless I move or roll over then it will stop when still can't stand or walk without severe pain in that spot near point of my hip Been this way 2 days. I have used small enemas and suppositories that add water. I have a small bowel movement but that's it. It is runny ish. Small as in maybe 1/4 cup I don't know for sure. I've been sleeping mostly. I eat a lot of pineapple and mandarins grapes and eat trisquits and rye crisps and Raiden bran or cream of wheat, oatmeal almost everyday! I am on Fentynal patches and Oxycodone 10/325 for pain related to Pain from Bamberger Marie Syndrome that used Lung cancer as it's host. I'm clear of cancer almost 3 years but the syndrome although much better still causing me back pain and joint pain. I drink a lot of water and a lot of teas (couple mason jars full) all day. Bowel movements usually 2 to 3 days apart sometimes a bit longer. It will be close to normal with a usually hard part at beginning of going. Not usually painful. I gotta push though. I have no hemroids. Why this all if a sudden horrible pain. That stops hurting when laying down body still?? I am a young active 59 yrs old.

I’ve been WFPB for 25 years. My diet is rich in fiber plus I eat prunes daily. I recently added kiwis 🥝 to my bowel routine to help with chronic constipation since having COVID in September. I have a hiatal hernia so being constipated exacerbates my pain. I’m consuming magnesium in addition to MiraLax and veg laxatives as needed. I’m seeing a GI next month however not many docs are interested in WFPB. Also I’ve read that constipation is a compliant post COVID infection.

@lauralong6695 my roommate refused the Covid shots, he feels fine and never got Covid. I took two Moderna and soon had two blood clots in my right leg. I’m in shape and swim 3 times a week. Since the vaccines I’m miserable with constipation, no energy and depression. My Doctor is scratching his head, can’t say what caused the blood clots. I had to take Eliquis blood thinner for 12 months to avoid a stroke. Now, if I bump my arms or legs gently against anything, I get purple bruises that take weeks to go away, even though I haven’t taken Eliquis for 2 years, oh and I have diverticulosis. End of the day I blame the Covid shots 😕

What type of magnesium to take for gas and bloating causing constipation ? Can one take milk of mag?? Or just take mag ?supplemnt??mag what??

Digestive enzymes and magnesium helped me. One of the biggest causes of constipation is low stomach acid. For this apple cider vinegar/flaxseed oil/fish oil or vitamin C (or a combination of them) just before meals or a betaine hydrochloric acid tablet during meals can be beneficial. I also think for those people also suffering with chronic anxiety it may be an indicator that they are stuck in an anabolic state. In this case it is better to take magnesium/flaxseed oil and fish oil supplements early in the day and apple cider vinegar in the evening. If you have chronic constipation cut down on the fibre until you have resolved your problem or else you are just compounding the problem.

The pomegranates are in season, a great source of fibre. You have to chew the seeds well. Also drink a tall glass of lemon 🍋 water first thing when you get up. Room temperature or lukewarm is best. I don’t think a person can be in good health and walk around constipated. The first thing a doctor should examine if treating any illness. Lot of illnesses come from the unclean gut.

I am very grateful for this comprehensive presentation, for each of us it can be different and very individual I have a gluten sensitivity causing extreme discomfort and pain and bloating for over fifty years, masked by chronic fifth lumbar damage and which I discovered accidentally. It took many months for my radical diet change to take effect but just transcending.I find triple magnesium complex works fine without that I am quickly constipated and Miralax helps almost immediately taken very best early morning rather than night before. Thank you so much for giving a crap! This is so important

It's hard to know what's helping or not when you change everything at once....I also added '1000' mg of Magnesium in the AM, and fill my vitamin water with Miralax. I'm not sure if it's working or what is working....the only thing I'm sure of - is 'prunes/water' combo.

The golf ball you roll around in your hands in your palm of your hands between your thumb and your little finger that's the acupuncture area for your large and small intestine to send a message to your brain to poop... and if you're taking too much Metamucil( pill form of psyllium husk )your body isn't prepared to handle it you start off slow with that stuff one tablet y'all do it like an alcoholic, more is better, your body evidently isn't prepared for all your new actions... you might want to start off slower and add fruits and vegetables to your diet cooked right now and maybe wrong later sounds to me like you've been on a processed food diet for too long gridlock'd

@@montanawarren8462 For a second there, I thought there was another thing I had to do with the golf ball!!! I am not taking a lot of metamucil. My SIL takes 9/day. I started out with 2/day and a maximum amount of 4/day! along with 1 cloncase pill. So, I've done just what you suggested..added fruits & vegies to my diet...and I don't eat any processed food at all!!! For now, I'm taking 2 metamucil per day - 2 clonase pill/day ... I've added apples, kiwis, brocolli, avocado to my diet daily. I think I'm doing everything right....I have my normal days (for maybe 3 days). Usually, before i go, I have a lot of gas. A first for me. Usually followed by a normal poop (or not). Last night it felt normal, but then I always feel that there is 'more'! And it's too hard to get out so I stop! I'm not sure what's preventing it from coming out - but I'm avoiding straining.

I'm not that brave just yet. An all plant diet is on the shelf. I am an American, my eating habits are going to be a challenge to change. It all comes out in the end has a whole new meaning.
