This is my first night post-op. Surgery was done in the morning. I keep hearing that patients are kept overnight for these, but my surgeon described it as really minor and sent me right home after the procedure. I’ve been bleeding quite a lot (or had a lot of blood-tinged nasal drip, as someone described). Both sides hurt and there’s definitely more blood than you think and a lot of swelling and stinging. Only one side was actually operated on. Right now I’m getting through it with ice on the eyes and cheeks, not the nose. Avoid sneezing by opening your mouth wide when the urge hits. I’ve been waking up a lot despite the painkillers (hydrocodone). Very thirsty, sore in the throat, and coughing from all the swallowed blood. Try to make yourself drink since most of your breathing is mouth breathing. My mom has been getting me slightly warm soups, thin sliced fruit, salmon, and soft burgers. Nothing that’s not really easy to break down with minimal chewing. I won’t lie, it kind of sucks the first night so far. Having someone around can really make a difference.

I am having random nose bleeds after septum surgery on 8th day.. Will this stop?
@jennaramsey70554 жыл бұрын
Hello all! I just had my septoplasty done this morning at 9:00am and it's currently 6:00pm... For anyone who is worried, it's really not bad at ALL. I have a severe fear of doctors, needles, anesthesia, and an extremely low pain tolerance. So much so that I was crying as soon as I laid down on the hospital bed. But now I'm home in my own bed and I'm a little sore but mostly fine. The surgeon had to fix my deviated septum, reduce my turbinates, and broke a bone they found behind my nose but the pain meds they gave me are keeping the pain at a very manageable level (even for me). My tips for anyone who might want this surgery would be, watch more of these recovery videos if you're like me and hate the unexpected (they actually really helped), ask your doctor all the questions you need to so that you feel comfortable, wear really comfy clothes to the surgery, and make sure you have a humidifier at home because your mouth does get very dry. Hope this helps! If you need this surgery, bite the bullet and just do it!

on my third day of recovery! The pain meds really help and it was the most relaxing surgery I have had, they took great care of me. I was afraid that at night I was going to panic because mouth breathing is hard, but I have learned to relax because it's for the best. I have had my nose pierced for 2 years and my nose ring has been out since the surgery, so I will get back to this comment and tell you if it closed or not. I also have been addicted to nose spray for 3 years. During this time i have thrown away all my nose spray and will never use it again. The splints are a bit uncomfortable, but when I take the meds I kind of forget about it. The most uncomfortable thing is the roof of my mouth because your sinuses connect to the nerves in your upper teeth, kind of feels like you flossed way too hard. I also have been vaping after this surgery, which I know isn't a good idea, but I will get back and let you know how I have healed! Its been a week! The splints came out today , what a relief :) Im breathing amazingly, and I still have my nose ring hole.

Great video. I had my septum and sinus surgery last Friday. Ran across this video last Saturday and was like “man up, it’s not that bad.” Lol. watching today and I am like “this is so true.” I think I went in with wrong expectations. Thought I would just have some pain. In reality, no physical pain at all but I’m the most miserable I have been in my life. Like the worst sinus infection ever where my nose is clogged with stints and I can’t blow my nose. Head feels like a beach ball. Getting stints out tomorrow and hope to feel like a new person. For anyone going through this, I will say you set pretty accurate expectations based on these videos.

Just had both procedures done today. Def wasn’t expecting this. I agree no pain really, but the fact that my nose is completely clogged with blood, forcing me to breath out my mouth. A real pain in the ass sleeping. I just want to blow my nose so bad 😫. Anyways, the ultimate results after healing from the surgery probably outweighs the initial uncomfortably you will endure in the beginning stages. I’ll comment again in a few weeks giving y’all an update lol.

Just got my sinus surgery done this morning. My doctor corrected my deviated septum, reduced the turbinates, sucked out my sinuses and made the openings to them bigger. Now, this could just be because they put pain medicine in my IV for when I woke up, but so far I feel fantastic. I was very nervous to go under and get this done after reading and watching other people’s experiences. I was given dissolvable packaging and splints and can actually breath out of my nose through the bandage that’s there to catch any blood. Took some Tylenol a few hours ago before I napped and I think that has also helped. The only thing I can say was uncomfortable directly after surgery was how groggy I was from the anesthesia and I uncontrollably shaking a lot after waking up (they will give you stuff for that in you IV as well). Had a lot of post nasal drip after waking up from surgery, but 5 hours later not so much. This was just my experience but I just wanted to share how it went in case there are people scrolling and getting scared reading other people’s experiences. I know everyone is different but I just hope I can give someone peace of mind.

Had septoplasty when I was 17 to help me breathe better, my septum was literally shaped like a zig zag. They make you fall asleep and then as soon as you wake up you're a bit light headed but once you're fully able to sit up you can leave and there's still the anesthesia's effect that remains for a few hours. I was bleeding a little bit on the first day, normal. I was given antibiotics and 2 kinds of painkiller, one was like tylenol and the other was a bit stronger, I would alternate between both but I recommend taking the stronger one before sleeping. First days you feel light headed, you rest a lot, you feel your nose a bit (not painful since u take meds) and food can taste a bit funny. I'd say the 4th day post surgery you start feeling normal again. I do breathe better now. My nose's appearance did not change, just that my septum looks more straight when I look up.

I had this done yesterday afternoon with local anesthesia, both sides are packed with stents & wires. In surgery about an hour then out after of the hospital in about 1-1/2 hours. (Day surgery) The hospital staff where all wonderful. My immediate headaches since have been nearly unbearable. I’ve had blood coming out of corner of one eye. Finally stopped thank goodness. I go back in 2 more days to have the stent’s removed. I’ve been told that is the most excruciating pain. Partially due to how deep the “stuffing” is. Stitches will dissolve with time. No one told me to NOT BLOW MY NOSE! Which I definitely did earlier. Helped the feeling BUT not good for the operation. I can’t wait to at least heal from all this. I know I had a great ENT surgeon. Often we go through the storm before we experience the rainbow. Best wishes for all.

I had sinus surgery done two days ago. I’d had 10 years of sinus problems due to deviated septum and nasal polyps. Two days ago had septoplasty and the polyps removed. Praying this fixes my sinus problems. The pain is worse today than yesterday and have vertigo this morning which is pretty unpleasant. I was really anxious about getting this surgery done and nearly backed out 2 weeks before. I’m glad I didn’t although time will tell I guess. Totally blocked up and lots of blood etc and I think recovery is going to be longer and more painful than I imagined but if this works even for a few years I’ll be happy. I just got my septoplasty surgery and the first day was me getting used to my mouth. The second day was me trying not to see god because I forget to breathe from my mouth. It’s super difficult to remember to breathe from your mouth. I also didn’t take a shower as I could barley even brush my teeth. The third day I took a shower in warm water and my nose opened up slightly because of the vapour and it felt amazing for the slight minute or two. I feel more fresh but my nose hurts more because the anesthesia is wearing off. The main issue is a suture that is poking out of my left nostril and it makes it a million times more difficult to breathe. The fourth day today and the top of my nose hurts. My right side is 70% cleared and my left nostril is 20% cleared. Kinda better than yesterday but I am coughing more. Day 5 and my right nostril isn’t swollen and is 80% cleared. Just really swollen and a suture is blocking airflow. My left nostril is basically completely blocked now and essentially no air goes through. My nose hurts more but overall I’d say this is the best day after the surgery in terms of comfort. Day 6 today and my nose started bleeding twice; once when I was sleeping and taking a shower. Nose definitely hurts more but I can kinda breathe thru my nose but I have to exhale through my mouth. Lips are extremely dry and I’m going to start using stuff to combat the discomfort. Day 7, a suture fell out from my left nostril and idk if that’s normal. But I can breathe better so I’m fine rn. Day 8 is amazing. My nose is definitely less swollen and my nose is really clearing up. This surgery seems worth it now. Still hoping my left nostril clears up. The tip of my nose hurts a lot. Day 9, swelling has greatly reduced and both nostrils are 85% clear. It sucks because now I’m used to breathing with my mouth and need to transition back to using my nose.

Thanks for posting such an informative video - very well done. I do hope that you continue to improve and all the very best for the long term. Sinus/ Rhinitis conditions really suck big time and can be very debilitating - they have been like that for years for me. Hopefully surgery, not without risks, should improve things. I had my FESS surgery yesterday, whatever the y injected in the back of my hand certainly knocked me out, I was in the middle of a chat with one of the nurses when I started speaking rubbish and zonk....! For me that was the best bit as my anxiety levels, shown with the blood pressure readings, was waaaay high...! I do not feel too bad the following morning, which means I feel as you would expect. Soreness and some pain with a stuffy full nose. Some slight pain in the face. I do have my own irrigation machine and the packing that they used after the surgery was the foam type, so nothing to remove. I did my very first irrigation a few minutes ago but I wanted to ask you did you blow your nose gently or not at all after doing it...? I just had to slightly blow very gently, a bit bloody and mucous, but there is still a lot that I could gently blow down but I'm more tempted to leave that and just concentrate on using my mouth to breathe more, after all I do not want to over irritate or bleed too much. I have got a weeks course of antibiotics as well as some nasal cream to apply. Best wishes to you and again I do wish you the very best for your long terms relief. :)

YES! THANK YOU! THE EXACT THING HAPPENED TO ME AND IM 4 DAYS POST-OP AND IM SUPPOSE TO GO BACK TO WORK ON SAT. HOW? WHEN I DRIVE FORKLIFT AND MY HEAD FEELS LIGHT, MY HEAD CONSTANTLY HURTS. IM CONSTANTLY BLOWING OUT BLOOD CLOTS BECAUSE I CAN'T BREATHE AND MY THROAT IS SORE. ON TOP OF THE COUGHING. I MEAN MY FACE AND ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OG MY HEAD HURTS. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME IT WAS GOING TO MINIMUM SO THEY SENT ME HOME THAT SAME NIGHT. WHEN I WOKE UP FROM SURGERY I WAS IN EXTREME PAIN! THE NURSE RESPONDED TO ME AS IF SHE WAS SURPRISED. MY THROAT WAS ON FIRE. THEY TOLD ME IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE BREATHING TUBE. MY NOSE DIDNT EVEN HAVE A WRAP ON IT. SO WHEN I WENT TO SIT UP TO USE THE BATHROOM, BLOOD CAME POURING DOWN ALL OVER AND THE NURSES RUSHING IN LIKE "OMG". THEY STILL SENT ME HOME. HERES THE KICKER. I TOLD THE NURSE I WAS EXPERIENCING A SHARP SHOOTING PAIN IN MY STOMACH. SHE IGNORE ME AND KIND OF BRUSHED IT OFF. BY THE TIME MY FRIEND DROVE ME HOME. I GOT OUT MY CAR AND I COULDNT REALLY MOVE. I FELT EXTREMELY NAUSEOUS. I LITERALLY STARTED VOMITING BLOOD! I TOOK 2 STEPS OUT HIS CAR AND STARTED VOMITING BLOOD. MY KIDS HAD TO SEE ME GO THROUGH THAT WHICH HURTS THE MOST. SO THEY CALLED THE EMERGENCY ASAP AND SPOKE WITH THE ON CALL DOCTOR. HE SAID AND I QUOTE, "WE TYPICALLY SUCTION THE PATIENTS STOMACH". IM BARELY BREATHING, IN PAIN AND VERY LETHARGIC, TRYING TO EXPLAIN I JUST THREW UP BLOOD, TWICE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS IS TRULY A KEPT BY GOD SITUATION. I WISH I HAD DID MY RESEARCH ON MY OPERATION BUT BEING A BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR OF 15 YEARS. HAVING GONE THROUGH MULTIPLE SURGERIES, I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A LITTLE PAINFUL BUT NOOOOO. IN MY OPINION, I FEELS WORSE THAN MY BILATERAL BREAST SURGERIES, BILATERAL LYMPHNODE, RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERIES, MY EX-SPANDERS AND EVEN HAVING 2 VAGINAL BIRTHS. I HAVE BEEN MISERABLE AND I DID NOT THINK IT WOULD BE THIS BAD.

Hi,just had my surgery yesterday. It doesn't hurt at all. Did you had dissolvable packages inside? They said to me to leave them alone that will dissolve themselves,to not clean with anything inside. They said will be just fine. They said my nose will blocked for up to 6 weeks. I have a follow up appointment. My concern is how long it takes to be dissolved. I still have that bandage under my nose like you but because it was just yesterday. How you feel now, hope you much better ❤

It’s not an easy recovery. Getting up to go to the toilet and back again hard work. You defo need painkillers during the day and heavy meds at night. Your nose is also really blocked and you get some really big boogers. Also get some nasal spray to help flush. Other than that it’s atleast a weeks rest. This is the part that FREAKS me OUT!! Like, what does it feel like? How do they do it? What does it feel like when they put the stuff in, like do you get sleepy or is more like wide awake to instantly out? Could you have stayed awake if you would have tried or is it impossible? Haha. Basically whatever you remember about that part would be helpful. Thanks so much!

SashSays Yeah my surgery was a septal perforation repair which is actually a hole in the septum which is fixed with other cartilidge and crap from the nose. This video was really helpful. I will have to get my surgery done. My sinus is very bad because of which I feel fatigue all the time. Sometimes I have to breathe through my mouth. Also I get headaches but doctor said it is because of migrane. Some times I feel very low on energy and I think my blood pressure drops. It becomes very difficult to perform day to day activities coz of that. Doctors say that it will get better with medication but it never did. Taking medication since years. So I'll probably find a good doctor and get the surgery done. Also CT scan showed 2 small tumors that doctor said is nothing to worry about will be gone if I take medication on time. Hi, I'm considering getting septoplasty because I can't sleep as my nose gets blocked at night. I have a few questions. 1. Do they make an incision? If yes, does it leave a scar when they stitch it back up? 2. How long does it take for you to sound normal again? 3. Can the shape of your nose become worse? 4. Does it cause skin discoloration? For how long? 5. If you're susceptible to infections, can they be dangerous? Thanks!

I had sinus surgery almost 2 months ago because I had chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. There was no air in my sinuses at all. I didn’t know I had sinusitis before the surgery until I had to get a CT because my doctor wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything wrong with my brain or whatever because I get bad migraines. But it came back clear but it showed the sinus problems so I got referred to a ent and they put me on an extended course of antibiotics. After the antibiotics I got another CT to see if it did anything and it didn’t so that’s how we came to the conclusion that I needed to get sinus surgery because that’s what we thought was making me get really bad migraines (it wasn’t in still getting them). I mean I’ve had sinus infections before but I just thought it was allergies that made me feel bad all the time like my nose feeling stuffed and the feeling of pressure and my ears constantly feeling clogged. So long story short I had the surgery and it’s going to be 2 months on Tuesday since I had it. I honestly don’t feel relief from it. I did for about a week in The middle of August but after wards I started feeling stuffed up and my ears felt super clogged and I feel so much pressure in my head, it sucks. I had my appointment last week for my 3rd post op appointment and he put me on an medication to help reduce allergy symptoms. There is thick mucus in my nose and it won’t come out no matter how many times I rinse with my saline solution. Right now it feels like how I felt after I got the surgery. I feel terrible. I’m just praying that this is allergies and that it goes away and it doesn’t make my sinuses flare up so I don’t get another sinus infection & have it go untreated and cause more problems.

I got my surgery two days ago and my dr paperwork said to was ok to shower after 24 hours, just avoid too much bending over.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience! I just had surgery for chronic sinusitis, deviated septum and polyps in the nose and front sinuses. It’s been 5 days and recovery is low I feel the same discomfort you described. Prior to surgery I suffered from constant sinus infections, pain, very bad Allergies, 24/7 congestion, loss of smell. I hope my smell comes back soon, thanks again and I hope you’re still feeling well.

I had my nose rebroken yesterday to straighten my bridge. They also did a clarifix procedure and a turbinate reduction. Unfortunately I was awake for the entire procedure and it was excruciating. 24 hours later my nose is still bleeding and there is a lot of pain but I can actually breathe for the first time in years.
