@stevenredman15825 жыл бұрын
When you hire on, you usually start out as an "extra" 5/2 driver. That means five days on then two days off. As you gain "longevity", you can bid on programs such as a 6/3, a 5/2-5/3, or a 5/5. That's five days working then five days off. You may share a truck with one of two other drivers, depending on the program you are on. On a 6/3 for example, three drivers share two trucks. So yes, that is slip seating. But once you are on a "program", you keep the same tractor(s) week in and week out. When you first start, you may have to swap trucks during the week but you usually keep the same truck all week unless you break down and the shop can't fix it quickly. If you're on a "regular" 5/2 and have an assigned tractor, your tractor might be used while you are on your two days off. You are expected to fuel and clean the truck before you go home. The DCs (distribution centers) you work out of have automatic wash bays and vacuum cleaners on site as well as fueling facilities. There are showers at the DCs for Walmart associates to use. And every one I've been to has an ice machine or Reddy Ice there so you can ice down your cooler, although most tractors have refrigerators. All sleeper cabs have APUs. Some DCs have cafeterias but most grocery DCs only have vending machines. Hope that helps anyone who might be considering Walmart Transportation.

I drove OTR for about 23 years, 12 as an o/o. We made great money, and home every weekend. I quit March 2018. Sold my truck and trailer. Why you ask? E-LOGS!! For 23 years I ran 18-20 hours a day. That was the only way I knew how to run. Keep the left door shut, and run like the wind!! There was no way in the world I was going to sit in a truck stop for 10 hours , and stare at the trees. Oh well, all good things must come to an end...
@Robert_Cedillos5 жыл бұрын
RedSox21 wow. Lol
@stevenredman15825 жыл бұрын
E-logs are a lot different than paper...and not all bad. Here, if you are under a load that delivers tomorrow, you run until you are almost out of time then shut down for at least 10 hours. You can lay over at most Walmarts and Sams Clubs or in any Walmart DC. I say "most" Walmarts because some localities have restrictions. If you have arrived at a DC and it is late in your day, or you are awaiting your next dispatch, you can either take the dispatch and start out or simply shut it down for the night. You often pull loads that don't have to be there until tomorrow. That lets YOU choose where and when to shut down. I personally try to stay out of Peelots and Flying Toilet Bowls. Far too many rookies and I'm not fond of my truck getting beat up while I'm trying to sleep.
@tylerwright7545 жыл бұрын
They need to get rid of e-logs. Not being able to drive for 10 hrs. & have to sit at a rest/truck stop for 10 hrs. is stupid. The gov't passed this law to run o/o out of business. How about 6-8 hrs. at the most for being forced off the road? 10 hrs. of waiting & sleep has crossed the line into infringing on a trucker's right to reasonably provide for himself/work & an infringment on a right to the pursuit of happiness, under the Constitution.
@scottriley93985 жыл бұрын
The problem with the industry is that drivers don’t demand decent pay for 10 or so hours. They instead, wanna work 18-20 hours a day to make a decent living.

I quit the road and I ended up getting screwed ten times worse driving local! After hurricane Katrina I came home, off the road for a job driving dump trucks rebuilding the cities levee protection system and since it's completion rebuilding the cities infant structure and roads. I drove for individua that owns their trucks but I was classed as self employed. Just to be treated as an owner of some sort I received 1099's because the owner didn't want to pay for workman's compensation or something. Well, I went under in my taxes that I could not afford to pay while making pre Katrina wages and a raised rent situation in the affected area. All without any benefits, workers compensation, insurance, 401k, retirement savings, state withholdings, etc,etc. I found myself stuck in this trend but I could not get past the fact of giving up all my time completely for the slightly higher pay to run OTR again. Now all these years later and I'm ready for a break from it all as they are finally taking about raising the pay to a semi reasonable amount. My my financial life is ruined thanks to trucking which has been my greatest passion since a child!!! and I still haven't given it up but my days are numbered I'm just worn out from being broke. I've never even been able to afford a vacation. Now I find myself taking great and even unthinkable sacrifices to save a little bit of money! My job...It's stolen my pride many times but I pushed on through it all just like a trucker does... through the rain sleet and snow night desert mountains cities bad accidents and chicken coops. I even felt the shame when the McDonald's workers pay raise to $15 would match my maximum pay for all I deal with including my life and others!Will I ever see my justification ? With my finances in ruin all I see is trouble for me and never living more than pay check to pay check then having to pay my own taxes but from what? And why? I don't own a business or a truck? I'm just an underpaid employee who loves his job! I didn't even know they had a lawsuit going on.

Slip seating is why all the experienced drivers are leaving! I hear they are now slip seating the 3 Million mile drivers. Slip seat and driver cameras thats how you run off drivers. My dad worked for Walmart from 1994-2017 as a driver out of Porterville, CA (now retired) He was even tried (he told them if they don't give him a load back he was going to Bob tail his truck back and quit) to be kept out on Christmas several times. He has 7 grandchildren and two children. After about 2010 or so they started treating him like crap and starting giving him crappy loads in 2016 (keep in mind he had been driving for 50+ years and ex oilfield driver he worked) He is a fill in now for a sand co. and he climbs under his trucks works on them, spends HIS time and money fixing the trucks, has not had a ticket since 1993, owned several trucks at one time. His boss did not understand why they were doing this to him at Walmart. He had a rep by the shop mechanics for taking EXTREMELY good care of his trucks I've seen his trucks after he got rid of his last one. A 2010 Freightshaker Cascadia it was spotless, looked brand new. Don't go to Walmart any more dad said it used to be a great co. but not no more. Keep in mind dad is 72 going on 73 years old.

The lack of drivers in the trucking industry just isn't for semi tractor trailer drivers it's for all drivers. I drive a front discharge Terex Advance concrete truck in the state of Indiana. Companies are practically begging for drivers. I made 52 thousand this past year in 2018. I thought about driving a semi tractor-trailer several times, but living out on the road is expensive and many times from what all my friends that drive over the road say you are stuck in a truck stop, at times waiting on a load and in fact begging on a load to get you back home. Truck Freight was deregulated by the congress and Senate under Ronald Reagan in the 1980s. if it was regulated today the trucking industry would have to change for the better. it can be done, but you can't have dirty politicians to do it for you, do to, to much corruption. Thanks for the videos Ron. Veteran and truck driver for Trump. Let's not just make America great again, let's make Trucking as a whole great again.

There is a BIG difference between "truckload" and "LTL" freight. Truckload (for most) means you go load then take it to deliver, usually staying out for days or weeks at a time. LTL uses a lot of terminals so the driver can drive to a destination terminal then change trailers and drive back home. Those guys are home every night and make a lot more than a trypical truckload guy. Far less road expenses and the mileage pay is usually much higher. Old Dominion, YRC, ABF, UPS Freight, Estes, and others are examples of LTL outfits. Some even have their own training programs.

@@thevacuumtubejunky9774 it means the company does not assign you "your" own truck. This is supposed to optimize the use of trucks, enhancing profits, but what it really means is that no one takes care of anything, and you will always sleep in a bunk that some skeezy fkr slept in without showering, you always will have to clean up the mess of some slob who had the truck before you, and smell their sweaty ass and worse, their damn cigarettes.

As low as 90 dollars for individuals and 128 for the whole family to 200 for the individual and 300 for the whole family bi weekly. Its actually up to 24 days off you can accrue. To be able to get good drivers that care about their job, trucking companies as a whole will have to embrace Fair driver pay, if not they will not get the good loyal drivers and eventually they will be taken straight to the federal labor board and they will lose and not only will they have to pay their drivers a fair wage they will also pay a huge steep fine from the federal labor board and eventually some will even be forced out of business like CR England trucking.

Well LPG Gas Hauler, when you start out your tipicly on the schedule that the recruiter tells you over the phone. Hey rob how you doing ? I turn 21 in a couple weeks and I wanted to know what’s the best way to attain my cdl. Do you know how much the training/cost of license total comes out to ?
@Robert_Cedillos5 жыл бұрын
What state do you live in? If California, you have to go to a truck driving school. Also, you have to have had your class c license a min of 1 yr. Cost for school varies. If you just want to get your cdl I seen it as low as 1200 dollars and if you want all the training as high as 4900 dollars. Your application at the dmv is 69 dollars. If you are going to get your hazmat endorsement, you need to get TSA clearance and that cost 89 dollars. If i could start over i would have payed the 4900. They show you how to shift, drive and logging. They cover everything you need to be hired by a trucking company and not struggle when you get there
