What To Expect When Undergoing Anesthesia

I had my first surgery at 52 for ulnar nerve relocation and the anesthesiologist was my best friend. I was happy to be put to sleep and not feeling anything.

Why can you stay.awake and still not feel the surgery ? Who does the surgery; surgeon , the fellow trainee?

I have had 54 surgeries and when I was 7 I went under for a cystoscopy and I remember having like an outer body experience where I felt like I was coming down from the ceiling and back down onto the table and I was sitting up for the induction and I was scared to lay down so I was sitting up but I just kept seeing myself suddenly come down from the ceiling down onto the table but I didn't see my body but I think I remember thinking that a doctor was getting into my face but I think he was trying to lay me down but I then remember waking up urinating as I was going down the hall to the recovery room.
