On the 20th of January,I planted three bits of ginger. For the first time I now have three ginger plants. I’m so excited as I failed two years in a row. Love your content. Lupins remind me of childhood and how the drop of rain gathers in the middle.

Another kale if you can find the seeds are Ethiopian Kale. It has tasty small,sweet tender leaves that are smooth and rounded. Grows to 2 ft. Very winter hardy! Good for people who do not like kale. More like a spinach.

Love all these. Last year my bachelor buttons around my spiral grew to be over 5 feet tall. I got back from my yearly Ireland trip and they were a forest out there. I let them go to seed and enjoyed watching the birds feasting.

I love kalettes- I grow them every year0 so tender and tasty. Love the tops too and any flower shoots they sometimes grow. I have 60 luping seedling pricked out at the moment- festival and the governor, noble maiden and chatelaine pink. Greta for cutting as well as nitrogen fixing. I grow cornflowers every year with papaver rhoeas, ( the field poppy). They look so pretty together and so colourful. Together with Ammi Majus they look like a wild flower meadow :-) I grow san Marzano, gardeners delight, honeycomb and garden pearl every year. Happy gardening Niall 😃

Hi Niall, I did plant few Kellet plants last year and took exactly 1 year to my plants to provide me with something for me to have a taste of it. Way too long 😂😂!!! Maybe was my fault but I don't know what I did wrong. I will probably will try again this year, just to confirm my suspicions 😅.

Hi Niall. So glad you mentioned sungold tomatoes! That is exactly what I’ve sown as my first attempt this year and I’ve four really healthy looking plants on the windowsill. I’m N Ireland so like yourself I’m waiting before transferring to the greenhouse. Have a great day.

TIL: Lupines fix nitrogen! Great to lean! I just started my sweet peas indoors. I'm hoping that I'll get some early growth to harden off for some blooms before mid-summer this year 😅 I'm also going to try tomatoes for the first time and I'm researching ways to insulate a few plants. Unfortunately the landlord won't agree to me putting in a greenhouse here (and I'll wait until I have my own space anyways!)... Cheers from Galway!

The only Brassica I haven't been cursed with so far is the Italian Kale (Nero di Toscana). Everything else grows to 10cm and then goes straight to seed. 😅 We have had really hot summer days in May and June the last couple of years, when the plants were only outside for a few weeks. I am definitely going to try the kalettes, thank you for the tip!
@niallgardens8 ай бұрын
This is reassuring to know that I'm not the only one!!! 😂 Hopefully you have success with the Kalettes also!

Tree Kale is pretty bullet-proof and perennial as well.
@judith1538 ай бұрын
Yes, tree kale is so cool! I haven't had much luck yet looking for seeds or small plants - I think they're very uncommon where I am from. I hope I can get my hands on the purple variety, it's so pretty!

We had no luck with Lupins at all. They are one of my favourite plants and we therefore planted loads, protected them from slugs and all. But instead of multiplying, they completely disappeared. Not sure why, but this was quite frustrating
@niallgardens8 ай бұрын
That's such a shame that they didn't work out for you. At what point did they disappear? Was it over the winter?
@oliverlondon52468 ай бұрын
@@niallgardens Hi! Yes over the winter. A real shame
@jeffreyrossi50848 ай бұрын
All great veggies and plants but the Lupine do stand out with me. I volunteer at a 275-Year-old doctors house in Rhode Island (old by USA standards) and faithfully drifts of the plants bloom there every year in May, a rich sky blue with s royal purple underlay.. I can't help but wonder if they may be decedents of the doctor's medicinal plants when he practiced there in the 1700s.
