Thank you for this great presentation , My specialist's recommendations eleven months ago were to delay hip replacement on the basis that at 55 years old I would most likely require more surgery around 75yo where age would make the procedure more risky. I have struggled with his diagnosis & feel that He'd took little consideration in how my passion for particular sports & activities have been impacted through joint deterioration. Hearing my thoughts mirrored by your panel on how quality of life during younger years should take priority over ageing concerns has inspired me to pursue fresh diagnosis.

Thanks SO much for your video! I just turned 54 and had a THR 3 weeks ago for severe osteoarthritis secondary to mild hip dysplasia. It was refreshing, comforting, and educational to see a video focusing on us younger " hippies".

As a 50 year male about to have a total hip replacement and worried about not being able to continue to play squash, soccer and run, this is the best KZbin clip I have watched in the past 12 months. Possibly ever. Many, many thanks for setting my mind at ease about so many of the anxieties I had about the ramifications of this surgery, particularly on future participation in competitive sport.

This was an excellent presentation! Thank you Dr.'s. As a very active 52 yr. old dancer who is about to undergo total hip replacement, I am in the hallelujah choir of this discussion. I struggled making the final decision to have the surgery but after talking to so many former colleagues who not only had the surgery but are back to their normal level of activity with NO pain, I finally broke down and scheduled my surgery. I'm looking forward to simply walking to and from work with no pain and to getting back to doing the activities I'm passionate about.

Although we are a relatively small but growing group of individuals dealing with extreme hip pain, I am VERY THANKFUL for the time you spent to prepare and present this video. I am 32, diagnosed with perthes, and experienced progressive pain since high school football (in Texas I might add 😁). Now with 2 children, my quality of life has been severely affected in the last 4yrs, contained only with cortisone and hyaluronic acid (euflexxa) injections. The injections no longer have the same effect, and as a family we've decided to move forward with THR. I'm nervous, but excited. This video has prepared me with questions for my doctor, and expectations for THR - when knowledge increases, skepticism decreases. Again, HUGE thank you for this video 🙌

Thank you. I have hip replacement surgery scheduled and I am in this younger age category. This was great information and well presented. Yes, quality of life was the key point in my decision, as the last year has been very challenging with pain and increasing limitations. This is not known to the general public that this is becoming a more common surgery at a younger age, news to me. I would have had this surgery sooner.

All the best Holly- I am 60 and had my right hip replaced posterior approach 2 weeks ago. I am really happy with the recovery. I am walking well with a stick- only used the walker for a week. The worst thing now is sleeping on my back for 6 weeks as I am a side sleeper. Post op the arthritis pain was gone - just wound pain which I know will disappear and already is improving. Make sure you take regular pain meds post op- keep on top of it. So glad I have had it done!

@@Hollym59 my surgeon prefers back sleeping for 6 weeks to reduce risk of dislocation if cross legs over in sleep. Other Drs aren’t so concerned. Finding it hard on my back so physio showed me how to side sleep with a pillow- tried it but my leg hurt but will try again. Less restrictions with the anterior approach. You won’t regret having the op- all the best!

Great info video. Day 12 of my right THR with left THR due in 3 months. Both bone on bone osteoarthritis with lots of pain and diminished quality of life. Worked hard on pre op physio 8 weeks out. Still have some post op pain but joint feels very smooth, each day it gets better with measured post op physio. Not a race, rest when you need and make sensible use of pain relief. Used CorinRPM parts & process.

At the age of 18 I had a R Femur #. This resulted in an ORIF. At age 24 my gait became effected as males can grow up until 25. At this time I was told by another orthopaedic surgeon: "That rod should have come out a long time ago. It needs to be removed before it causes anymore problems." I'll be 31 in 2 months and still have this rod in my leg. I now have a LLD, bilateral OA & Hip Protrusion. The Protrusion on the left side is worse than the right as the left leg is the longer leg. I am in constant pain. Doctors are not helping me. I have done what they recommend (shoelift and exercises). I am told: "I don't recommend a hip replacement for you" AND "Manage the pain as best you can." It's like they want my femur to protrude right through my pelvis before they do anything. I had to change careers due to my injury and now I can't perform the 2nd career I got into. I'm in Toronto Canada. All SUGGESTIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

@Joshuaversa
@Joshuaversa 2 жыл бұрын
@@bitbleed I have consulted several doctors. Dr. Paley of Florida said: “You have developed protrusion of both hips.” (July 2021) Dr. Schemitsch of London Ontario says: “First we need to see if your a candidate for a biological procedure which would be arthroscopy. We need an MRI or you hip saying full subchondral defects. If there’s no more cartilage arthroscopy is pointless. The. We proceeded with BHR on the left & THR on the right.” (April 28th, 2022). Dr. Whelan of SMH says: “I don’t see protrusion.” (May 2022) After 6 years of this doctor following me only now does his reports say FAI Femoral Acetabular Impingement when I had it all along. I have CT scan scheduled July 25th 2022, not an MRI. Probably because it’s cheaper. Doctors get kick backs on scans they order. You can read reviews on him stating: “This Doctor has souls his soul to WSIB.” He’s all about the money, not about helping people. You can read review on ratemd.

Great information! I am needing a THR on the left hip, I'm 56 and have hip dysplasia. R side had an Osteotomy in 2009. Following that surgery I suffered a non union pelvic fracture. I am wondering if dysplastic hips are more difficult or require special materials and may not be eligible for certain typical surgical procedures?
