This is clear and helpful. Thank you. As you said, I wanted to have the second cat as an accompany to my first cat. But now I should reconsider if “I” want the second cat.

We got a well-socialized kitten for our 8 year old cat who never was socialized and they absolutely love eachother now. Jackson Galaxy came to our home, did a consultation, and we decided to give it a try. Best decision we ever made. It takes time, dedication and patience and has to be done the right way, but it can work.

This is exactly what I needed to hear. I’ve been going back and forth about adopting a second cat and not considering all the points you made. This made it much more clear about the what if it doesn’t work out, the time and money, and what would you do if it doesn’t work for both me and my cat. Thank you

Just get a second cat and introduce them properly even if they don't like each other at first they will come around with time , I recently got three kittens no issues

Hello Colin, I have six cats and i am keeping them all in separate rooms. Three of them have the FIV virus and when the weather is fine, i put them in a catio. Two of them are living in rooms nearby, so i leave the door open a little so they can see each other. Now i can put these two together in one half of the catio and they are doing fine. The third one lives downstairs in a room, so they do not meet each other often. I put this one in the other half of the catio. You can see that they stress each other a bit, because one is peeing outside the litter box when he's getting to exited. I hope some day i can build a nice shed for them, so they can go in and out the catio when they like. I think that, when they are exited about the other they can go back in their own room. Thank you for your good tips!

Can you do a video when you adopt a dog when you have 2 cats that are 8 months old.
@Herr_Vorragender Жыл бұрын
1. People are out of home and in office for 9 hours every day. 2. Tere are bazillions of cats in in the shelters in need of a loving home. 3. Most people think of cats as decorative things and never think about educating them self. 4. Few learn and understand patterns. Most will follow simple rules though. That will be the majority of all cat/pet owners. Hence it is better to advise a simple rule, namely "Always get 2 instead of 1 cat". With this simple rule, you've given 98% of all cat owners solid good advice. And then there are the very select few who : 1. Are working 100% at home. 2. Will work 100% at home for the next 20 years. 3. Educate them self thoroughly about cats. 4. Play with their cat multiple times a day. 5. Clicker train their cat. 6. Build high climbing paths in their flat/house for thir cat. 7. Leash training + going outside But all logic, everything is out the window, when we talk about kitten. With kitten you must (!) always (!) get 2 instead of 1. Or could there yet again be a logical pattern? Hmmmmmmmmm 🤔

I thoroughly agree with you. The vast majority of times I would say cats need to be with other cats.

Exactly said. Spot on. People please also you have to have a lot of time and patience. We had to bring back a female cat we adopted at a local shelter. She actually kept attacking our friendly male resident cat. It was very stressful! We were so stressed out! We didnt know much about the new cat jist that they found her outdoors with a couple wounds on her hind legs. Trust me this is so spot on wish I watched this first! Thank goodness the shelter took her back. We all felt that she wasnt ready to adjust back into a household.

I think you presented the con points only, nothing about the positive aspects of having a second cat around. Cats will get on well if introduced correctly, you said nothing about that. A single cat in a household needs much more attention, is more likely to get anxiety issues when left alone, does not have all his needs met, like a type of play that only another cat can offer. I could go on. Not to be just critical, your points are true, not balanced, but true. I guess you helped those who where just looking for an excuse or two not to have a second cat. And that's a good thing. Animals are not toys, and should be adopted by responsible people who value life and are willing to make an effort to understand their furry companions and provide for them.

Why should he say something about the pros? There are practically tons and tons and tons of facebook posts, blog texts, youtube videos, echo chambers over echo chambers all saying the same things. On the other hand there are very few who openly talk about the cons.

You're absolutely right. This guy was nothing but negative. I have a 2.5 spayed female cat who's very playful and affectionate. I'm looking to adopt a kitten and I'm pretty sure my current cat will do just fine. Yes, I would have adopted one of her litter mates when I got her, but it just didn't work out that way. Having 2 cats can be very beneficial, but of course that depends on the current cat & their personality. My previous cat (a tortie) would have hated it.

I got my 4 year old cat a kitten and it didn't work out because the kitten was extremely active and wild and my other cat is very calm and mellow. The kitten chased my 4 year old around and she got so scared and stressed. The kitten moved to my mother and with here cat thats 8 years old it works perfectly. The reason it works is because here cat is also active and wants to play all the time. So before you get the kitten make sure that its has similar personality that your other cat. If you have a special breed maybe get the same. My cat is an Exotic and next time I get a kitten I will get an Exotic or a Persian kitten😺

No sensible person will hold it against you. If you feel like you want to offer your cat more space, and if I may be so bold to suggest, you can : 1. clicker train your cat 2. clicker train towards wearing a harness 3. clicker train to wear a leash 4. clicker train to follow you while wearing the leash 5. clicker train to be carried in your cat rucksack 6. go outside with your cat But be careful outside. Some people are stupid AF. Be mentally prepared to find a complaining Karen nearly anywhere. Also, not all cats want to go outside. If that is the case with yours, then at least you have mentally stimulated your cat hard, which is super healthy for your cat.
