That was a little bit of a surprise just how much rot was in the shell. If I were James I would looking at my bank balance and waving at it (sorry James) because that's in depth rot, although it still doesn't beat the turquoise Cooper with no scuttle or front left on it. Thank god you have Marc in your corner for this build.
@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was so for me to I sort of knew it wasn’t going to be great but didn’t think it would be this bad. Yes the blue cooper is still the the roughest one I have done. Stay tuned buddy and thank you for watching 👍

@@SimpsonsClassics I was talking to a guy about the Cooper at the Ripon show yesterday. I said it was the worst I'd seen on a more modern of the original Minis and said he should go check it out so you might have a new sub there lol. He had a red '93 a bit like Toony's Mayfair that he had, all original with about 26k on it and it was mint and had never been touched, just waxed up to within an inch and not taken out in the rain. His daughter had a beige '83 Maestro 1.3HLE, same miles and same condition.

Great video, interested to see what rust convertor you use on surface rust. Hi Marc, I don't want to be a downer but at what point does a prospective buyer decide a Mini is too far gone to revive? When you consider the cost of all the panels, welding, nuts and bolts, paint etc. Is nostalgia worth that amount. On a more upbeat note we will get to see the salvation of a classic little British car.....from near death to original vitality!
@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
This is a very good point and one that should be considered for sure. I think it’s about how much you want it and also if your doing the work yourself that way ok it might take longer but you save a lot of money. Which is why I do what I do to get people in that mind set. Stay tuned buddy thanks for watching this one will be saved for sure
@Car_and_classic_lover2 жыл бұрын
Damn...that car is a death trap! But no doubt that you can save it and get it looking and driving as good as new! Although I did have to laugh because I think making a video on all the rust points on a Mini would be a short video as they rust everywhere that isn't glass or rubber haha! I still have a classic Simpsons Classics sticker like that one, I'm keeping it for when i restore a Mini of my own (hopefully) haha👍
@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
Yeah she really isn’t in a good way which is why she has been off the road for a few years James new she is wasn’t fit for the road. Haha yeah they basically rust everywhere 😂 stay tuned for more buddy. Thanks so much for having an early sticker that’s so cool I hope you get yours done soon.

@@SimpsonsClassics We've got an MPI which i love (and thankfully isn't a project anymore haha) but I'm hoping to get a one owner barn find Sprite that I know of near me, the engine runs sweet but does have rusty sills I'm told. Should be a good, fun project though. I'd love to return it to the original owner after its restored too, so the SC sticker will have pride of place on the window of that car hopefully :)

@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy glad you enjoyed the video. I guess there is always that but when they are over 10k to buy now I would like to give it a go but for sure some cars it would be so much more cost effective to get a shell. Thanks for supporting the channel

Hi guys very interesting video thou, I'm not sure if it is worth saving the Body , l have seen on a video a company that does new body shells & yes it is in the UK yay..... Would it not be quicker & cheaper for " James" to go down this route ? & save you alot of work.l await your response 😳😨😱
@SimpsonsClassics2 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the comment. This shell is definitely worth saving if you have seen our 89 build that car really should have been reshelled but we chose to save it. Eve the Mayfair isn’t this bad so it’s far cheaper to save this shell than pay £8-10k for a new one. Yes it will definitely save the work but then we love some rusty content on this channel. Appreciate your comment though 👍
@charlieboyok2 жыл бұрын

I am going to use heritage wings on this car buddy. The ones used on this car previously are magnum ones which are fine but the e-coating needs to be stripped before paint or it micro blisters causing the rust issues seen here. Hope this helps. 👍
