I was honestly surprised to not see even if it was as an honorable mention the frame cracking by the gearbox for the steering from anyone I've ever heard or videos I've watched that's always a big point to check that as frame repairs can get costly. A lot of good points made for sure but I feel this should have been included

You can buy gear box mount weld in frame repairs if it’s cracked or braces to prevent it from cracking if it’s not already

Been driving a '75 C-20 custom deluxe camper special ever since Dad ordered her new in '74. Built in November of '74 in California. If I promised not to run the piss out of her I sometimes got to drive her to high school. And Dad always knew when I ran the piss out of her.When Dad passed I ended up with her. Over the years my brother and I have sold her back and forth to each other. The last time I bought her back my brother asked if I had a quarter I said no so he handed me 25 cents and he asked you have a quarter again so I handed him the $0.25 piece and he said you just bought baby back. I said you son of a bitch I want $0.15 change. I know every nut,bolt, screw,wire, squeak, rattle. On days where she is running really good I wonder what is going to break next. Battery trays? You still have battery trays? I don't even have the front of the inner wheel wells left anymore, and who's Bright Idea at GM was it to put the side post batteries in that critter? She has 81,000 mi for the sixth time that I know of, on the third small block. Tows my 29 ft terry trailer like it isn't even there. Body's straight, okay so there's the square body Hood bend thing going on. Still rocking the original buckskin paint with the arctic white top. And I will own the last 16.5 in tire on the planet before I switch out to 16 or 17 inch tires. Sitting next to my 93 Silverado Z71 and the old woman's 94 Silverado both dark Hunt club Red metallic extended cabs with the leather tan interior in both. His and hers Silverados.She just looks tougher, meaner,Has that don't mess with me look. In my will it stipulates I will be buried in her.

Usually caused by oversized tires but there is a reinforcement available

Hey! So, I have a '74 K20. I got it running and driving, but it didn't have much power when I stepped on the gas. I thought I needed to adjust the timing and tweak the carburetor. I started with the HEI distributor, set it to top dead center, dropped the distributor in, and put the spark plug wires in the right order. But it's still not running right, even though I know there's spark and it's getting gas. It cranks but won't fire, and now the carb is spitting gas out the top.

Most square bodys start to rust where the inner fenders bolt to the core support, it’s really easy for dirt to pack in there
@FirstPlaceAutoParts2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input Project Rust. The square body had several areas where pine needles, dirt and leaves could and would create rust havoc including the area you mentioned. Thanks for watching and passing along the tip

BODY CONDITION. The bodies were trash so get the best you can. Then rust proof it properly. Everything else is so cheap I'd take a good body and no drivetrain over a bad body with a good drivetrain.

Age is not the problem, it’s the lack of care and maintenance. I have a 1978 BIG10 454 SWB that I ordered new in 78 . I have kept it washed with zip wax on the underside as well as the top side. It has been kept inside all its life except for the 82k miles driven and I cannot find rust anywhere. I did disassemble it completely 25 years ago and repainted it the original bright blue metallic.
