Spruce gum works fantastic on cuts, wounds, etc. It's an antiseptic, helps healing, natural and seals the wound.

Was waiting for the super glue...works better than band aids or dressing and behaves as stitches for deeper cuts (stuff happens - glued together a finger tip that another hiker cut apart like butter [2 distinct flaps] she had one sharp knife no doubt...6 months later finger fully functional scar not even noticed) stings for blisters but works like a champ for miles and sweat won't peel it off. Happy hiking. Stay safe out there. Oh almost forgot and Duct Tape...things break and the stuff works like a champ even in pouring rain ⛈️⛈️⛈️ 😉

I have a Trekology pillow that's hard as a rock if you blow it all the way up and too flat if you don't. What I did was cut a piece of 1" memory foam and stuck it in there and now I just blow it up about halfway. Feels much more like a real pillow and the memory foam smashes flat for storage, but I don't keep it in the little bag. I just lay it flat either on the bottom of my pack or in the sleeping bag compartment depending on what pack I'm using.

Thank you for this. I’ve been practicing packing and carrying my 60L pack on local trails here in the PNW. I felt like I was taking too much, but seeing what you do, I think I’m good. I’ve tried so many tent packing configurations and I actually like doing exactly what you do 😊. You rock, thanks for sharing!

Hey! Just found your channel and love your videos. I just recently got into solo backpacking after years of of remote 4x4 camping. This was a great video I wish I had seen when I started. Solid advice. I'm curious what your pack weight comes in at. Also, I'm gonna do some research and may have to try that Katadyn filter. I'm not a fan of the the Sawyer I have now. Thanks for sharing your adventures and keep on trekking!

Might consider adding a tourniquet to your first aid kit if you don't have one. Hard to tell if you have one in that first aid kit. Also a SWAT-T tourniquet for your dog as the windless type of TQ designed for humans wont work on a dogs leg in most circumstances. I had a buddy fall off the side of a mountain and while he survived (barely) a TQ would have made things much easier. Wasn't arterial but we still struggled to stop the bleeding in his leg through pressure alone. Space blanket (mylar) as well. Even in warm/hot weather injuries suck the warmth out of you and helps bring on shock. We didn't even have a sleeping pad for him to lay on. The ground of early summer sucked all the warmth out of him and he went through major hypothermia procedures in hospital after a helicopter finally picked him up. It was a day trip and we cut corner that I dont anymore. It's hard to tell what you have so I don't mean to be preachy. Happy trails.

Would love to know how to pack food in a bear bin/in bear country! Also how high do you try to hang your food bag? One thing I always pack, even in the summer, is a toque! I find I lose a lot of heat from my head as I am sleeping and wearing my toque when I sleep helps a ton! Love the video thanks

Depending on where you are backpacking, you'll need to research the parks, and forest areas you will be in. Out where I am, it's common to have national parks and forests have approved bear canisters/bags that must be used. Seems like most are requiring canisters which are left on the ground not close to one's camping site.

In the summer you can go much lighter than Madison does. I suggest a book by Ray Jardine called Beyond Backpacking. You can get a one pound tent and a one pound sleeping bag. Then you can use a lighter pack, because you aren't carrying so much stuff. Madison is very strong, and carrying this pack makes her even stronger.

Wait, wait, wa, stop the horses! Water weighs 2.2 lbs ( 1 kilo ) per liter. No one carries that much water at a time, and not inside your pack when you don’t know how much is left at any given time. Common practice nowadays is 1-2 liters in separate bottles. One should know their water sources (map) and you fill up and replenish as you hike.
