Thanks for all your hard work and knowledge sharing! I appreciate you and your love of the outdoors! I don't see you having any hike fails when hiking 14ers or tall peaks. What's your secret? Do you have hike fails ? Or do you plan well/ leave early and know your limits? Thanks again for all you do. You inspire me to hike 14ers and push my limits.

A hike fail is when you don't return to your car - otherwise, no such thing as failure. To answer your question though - years of experience, LOTS of research and picking the right day. I also have my gear and body pretty dialed in at this point so know when to leave, when to expect weather etc. I have certainly turned back on mountains before but it does tend to happen less and less the more that I am doing this.

On the hike itself? Absolutely not. Having multiple pairs based on your objectives, maybe a good idea down the road - but certainly not required to start.
