being ever optimistic I did some late season planting. Here in zone 5B… I started more squash plants in the house a while ago. Put them out in the garden along with some bush green beans. I planted some beet seeds middle of August as well to see if anything is happening they are germinating but who knows… It all depends on the frost 🤞

Now that makes me smile. 5b HAS to be a late season challenge. Waiting to see the results! Cool beans!

Oh cool. I actually grew up in Virginia. Maybe you visited Jamestown Island before? That long road, Jamestown Road, is where I grew up. Creeks, river and really, really good soil for gardening. :) So nice to meet you! And thanks for commenting. :)

My non-melinated brother you need to seriously look into some high SPF sunblock. I thought the kids played with the contrast of my tv when I first started this video. Skin cancer doesnt play.
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening Жыл бұрын
Good morning. Actually I am a skin cancer patient. My skin does tone red from native american heritage, but the degree of redness is from the filter on the camera. I simply did not adjust the video coloring after the shoot due to pure laziness. I am not as red as that particular video indicates. Thank you for your concern. Peace on. Oh, yes, I do use sunblock. Even on the ears nose and lip. ;)

Looks like it was slightly on the warm side when you were shooting this. 😅 Good selection for fall there Jules. With you being in zone 7, you get maybe an extra month of growing in the fall (vs my location). I've just planted my carrots and I have some broccoli to transplant. I also have lettuce successions lined up.
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening 2 жыл бұрын
Lettuce succession sounds spot on! We are skipping on the broccs and collards this year. Oh, the camera used was set on purpose to "film filter" and I just chose not to enhance the capture. I am red, but not THAT red. lol. Camera function. I would be heading to ER if I was that red. lol.

Good morning Nicole! Oh goodness, 90 days is a LOT of time. I am not really THAT red. I used a "film" filter on a Q2zoom because of the sun. I saw that and didn't feel like enhancing fixing the color in edit. lol. I am red but not THAT bright. lol. I have some native american in the family line, which, well, my complexion is all over the place.

Nice variety! For the last couple of years here in zone 4a, I usually plant spinach and a a package on mixed variety of greens. But, I do have Cauliflower and Broccoli seeds from last year. So I 'm thinking of pushing the envelope this weekend in my little greenhouse. If I have time, great. If not, oh well lol. Take care my Friend!

I tried beans in August for the first time last year and it worked out beautifully. Wonderful crop. I’m zone 9 but don’t get warm weather ever. My frost comes in mid Nov but all the warm weather plants die off on October since it hits below 50 consistently. I grow similar fall crops to you 😊
@JulesGardening

That is interesting. Didn't think about the below 50 factor, for your zone I mean. Fingers crossed on the beans! Hoping the weather chills a bit more. We have a had a super hot July and early August. Have a great weekend! ☀️

Loving the Fall crop ideas Jules! I’ve got some seeds started indoors for the broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, cabbage, bunching onions, four lettuce varieties, celery and herbs. Also I’m planning on direct sewing later in the season some peas, burgundy noodle beans and Danver carrots. Still debating on giving big yellow and red onion bulbs a try for Fall planting to overwinter in Zone 7b. Any thoughts?
@JulesGardening

Wow! Lots going on! I would go for it with the onions! Planned on mentioning that for September planting later. Leeks, Onions and Garlic plantings in the fall. Thanks for the reminder on peas, too. Our pea station is overrun right now with watermelon vines. But we can still plant the peas. lol. Have a super weekend! ☀️

Thank you Wendy! I thought about squash because I wanted to see if I get less bug pressure this time of year. Have you noticed so? Does that really happen?
@hardnackfarms1736
@hardnackfarms1736 2 жыл бұрын
@@JulesGardening normally yes the bug pressure is very minimal for Fall squash. However, this year is different.I just started getting squash bugs on two squash that have been planted for a few months. I only had one squash seed germinate and it’s in a tub so far so good🙏🏻 beets, onions, rutabagas, kale, dandelion, carrots, parsnips, garlic, green beans, cucumbers and I have kept potatoes going all season. I also started some herbs for the greenhouse and I want to plant when it’s much cooler some cilantro. I am planting more tomatoes in the greenhouse. I will plant lettuce and spinach when it cools off more. I love the provider bean I have been growing it for years it’s the best. If I have time I want to have a few cold frames I have more windows that were given to us, and several years back I bought five windows at habitat for humanity resale store and one is one the solar food dehydrator. I will have to see if I have time then I could do more greens. The thing with the squash bugs is growing them in a bed and checking under the leaves daily like twice a day for any eggs or bugs. I keep a jar of water and pull off the eggs put in the jar and bugs and then seal them in the jar. Wipe them out before they wipe me out. It’s been a hard season
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening 2 жыл бұрын
@@hardnackfarms1736 I like that technique! And you gave me an idea. I was given four windows from my grandparents old house. Might need to use those like you report above. Our season has been different. Herbs. No problem. Corn, not bad and not good. Squash, all of it, vine borers. Pasting tomatoes fusarium wilt. First cucumbers, way below average. Our blue lake pole beans were actually bush beans (supply chain screw up.) But our "shed bed" is thriving with okra, cucumbers (second planting), hot pepper, sweet peppers, eggplant, and massive heirlooms. The apple tree has produced. The grapes and berries, meh. It has just been a weird year. We had a very dry June, and then 15 days in the 90's back in July. Both unusual around here. Heck, I am still trying to get enough speckled romans for pasting. We are in now or never mode with maters and cucumbers and, well that is why I planted those provider beans. We still need ALL 3 for putting up. Crazy year. Ever tried growing a Pineapple Tomato or Mexico Tomato?

Just beans. They should be fine. We started round two roughly two weeks ago. They are doing fine and will be producing in early september. Just make sure you take care of the water, you know? Been really dry here anyway. They need a lot per 5 foot of row and especially once flowering and producing. Good luck and happy gardening!

Jules, may I ask where you purchase your Wyatt Quarles seeds at and do I have to buy in mass? I'm just a home gardener.
@JulesGardening
@JulesGardening 2 жыл бұрын
Hello. Wyatt Quarles distributes their seed to local seed stores and garden centers. These are, to my knowledge, all independently own stores. I have shopped their products in 3 different stores. Their seeds are distributed pre-packaged and in bulk. I buy as much or as little as I want at my local store. Good example of many, you can get more carrot seed than you can plant in a year for 25 cents. Here is a link their website. There is a store locator search option by zip code, which is regionally limited. www.wqseeds.com/ Disclaimer: I am not an agent for nor a commissioned salesman for Wyatt-Quarles. My recommendation(s) are based on my use as a consumer.
