I watch videos from all over the world. Self-Sufficient Me, Huw Richards, Next Level Gardening, MIGardener, Scott Head, The Rusted Garden, Epic Gardening, Simplify Gardening, The Survival Garden (David the Good), CaliKim, and many more. I watch every video from Gardener Scott :) and I always learn something and get good ideas. Living in Florida 9b, I use the knowledge in the season that is appropriate for me. I've gotten ideas for vegetables that I have never eaten before. I am harvesting tomatoes from some determinate tomato plants and have seedlings ready for the next round. This is only my 2nd year gardening and I love every minute of it.

Yeah, 9b can grow a lot of things. I remember David the Good saying in the Caribbean he spit seeds out on the ground and they would grow without doing anything else. The warmer the climate the easier the gardening seems to go.

Brian Seybert- I, too am just starting the last of my seeds for wet towel germination and planting in seedling soil for under the grow lights. Those are lemon cukes, zucchini and summer squash. I will plant another flat of broccoli tonight for my friend. We are still a month away from planting outside, another week or two until moving things out to the unheated greenhouses. Heated greenhouses are going strong, though.

Scot wanted to share a comment about straw since it came up in this video. Be careful with straw that came from farms with animals. I bought a few bales for Halloween to make a decorative display on my deck with pumpkins and corn and things. Well my dog who never had fleas suddenly got them and our house was infested. No more displays. I still use it for gardening but I store it away from the home and my pets.

Lynda Hardwick- Beneficial Nematodes or Neem oil drench may help w/ the fungus gnats. It helps when I have them. Also, I use the yellow sticky traps, and apple cider vineger in a small container near them. They love it, drink ity, fall in, etc.

On soil issues. I had red stele root rot pop up in 2 strawberry beds my second year of growing them. Bad enough that the leaves were turning red. Pulled one plant and you could see the problem with the roots. Before ripping them out and dumping / replacing the soil, I decided to try a Neem oil drench on both beds. Treated each bed twice. I'll be darned if after a while, more than 1/2 of the plants recovered. Used neem cake as a fertilizer the next spring too, and it's never come back since then. I found other soil diseases a Neem oil drench has been known to help with by doing some on line digging (Has to be the cold pressed, not the clear light amber "extract" most garden centers and big box stores sell.)

I'm tickled pink that you have a channel. I live in 5b in Maine and like you I don't have much out. My garden so far has a blueberry bush, hardneck garlic, spinach, gladestone onions, and red onions. The seedlings in my greenhouse with plenty of thermal mass are celery, 2 variety of cabbage. 2 kale variety. 3 Broccoli varieties. And cauliflower, snowball. I can't find many cool weather gardening channels at all and this channel right here is golden. I just want to thank you.

Thanks again, Scott! I always learn something new when I tune in to your channel and these Monday morning lives are great to also hear from other gardeners! I missed the live but saw it an hour after. Have a great week! Oh, I have a couple of new figs, too! They will be in containers for a year or two. I still haven't decided if or exactly where I will plant them in ground due to what I hear is extensive root systems that I don't want to interfere with water lines in front yard so I am being cautious, plus there is some shade from neighbor and the prime sunny spots I might want for flowers! Tough decisions!

Scott I'm in zone 4B and about 7 hours from your Colorado Rocky home. I just noticed that my garlic I planted last September is just now poking up through the soil. That's a good thing and I agree that people really have to understand that we don't all live close to each other or in the same zones. I'm just now digging furrows for planting potatoes. My strawberries are no where close to coming up much less harvest a berry yet 🧐 Scott you may not have fire ants but tarantulas do grow in your area lol. I used to live in Colorado Springs off of Filmore Ave. I'd go to Pueblo and see the spider run during mating season. An awesome place to live but gardening is a challenge but not impossible. Have a wonderful week. Thank you

Tulips wil grow here, but I don't grow them, as the moose like them too well! Tulips I don't want to put behind a fence. There are plenty of other flowers I can grow that the moose leave alone; like daffodils, peonies, most Iris, and Lillies.

Hello Mr. Scott, I'm a new subscriber and fan! I love your peaceful energy and welcoming enthusiasm! I am BRAND new to gardening, have a history of killing even the easiest houseplants lol, and KZbin is my teacher -- but as I've been watching vids I noticed I was feeling stressed and irritated because many gardening youtubers are very hyper and intense! That doesn't work well for listening in the background as I'm trying to set up my garden. So your style of channel is a breath of fresh air and I'm so grateful for your content!! Your videos are the opposite of stressful, and listening to you in the background makes me feel calm, collected, and optimistic! I'm starting in pots because April-early May is a bit stormy here (Zone 7A) so I can move the plants indoors on bad days, having some success already with just 3.5-4 weeks under my belt! :) Excited to learn more from you, God Bless!!

Thank you for the info on grape support! Exactly what I wanted to know was production rate of arbor vs. Cordon. We have been friends with owner at local winery and he had a video I found on pruning, but we don't get out much or I'd go there to ask him. He prunes them really fast. I used to pick grapes for the winery. The produce were large clusters. Grapes for wine are different than table grapes. As a kid we had an arbor with seeded purple grapes, I think the ones they grow in the south, and they were always loaded. I love both ways of training. More concerned about production. One great point on his video was they stopped 2 tier training because they had less crop loss from freezing with higher tier. Again the arbor wins out. One huge difference right now is the cost of wood! Everything I plant has to come with a fence. Herd of 7 deer this morning looking and nosing around to see what they can ruin. Squirrels, deer, rabbit, birds, gophers, moles, coon and last week the first ever Ground Hog...It is a necessity to lock everything in a barrier. I hope I don't see elk! So an arbor would be great for shade, freezing protection and out of reach of some critters. Hope the wind quits for you as we end up getting what you've had😊 and after Tues nite low of 38° we should be ok to get going with slight freezing risk. Looking at 40s at nite and 60-70 days after Tues. I'm going to press my luck and start some cool weather veggies today b4 we heat up and they bolt. Seen our record high in 1934 for Memorial Day was 101°.

Loving the video, just concerned about the statement that the straw sprouting is indicating there is no imidacloprid. Sadly that chemical is designed to hinder broadleaf plants and shouldn't affect grasses. So grass/wheat straw seeds sprouting is not a good test. Might want to do a bean test instead. Just my 2 cents. It took my corn patch 2 years for it to break down enough to support beans, the squash plants still died. Spring 2021 (Year 3)I had two spots where I had leaf curl. I will try three sisters again see if the imidacloprid is gone. Thanks for bringing awareness to killer compost and ground cover options.

When you say straw what do you mean? In the UK straw is barley and wheat and if you have many seeds in that then the combine did a terrible job. Hay, being grass has a lot more.
@donnaendresen61842 жыл бұрын
Straw here in the US is usually left for baling after combine the oats, Barley, wheat, etc.

I planted my grape vine inside of my greenhouse because I'm worried about my dogs eat grapes/pick up grapes from the ground. It is poisonous for dogs. You have multiple dogs as well, I'm curious if you plant grapes outside of your greenhouse what will you do to protect your dogs from eating them?
@GardenerScott2 жыл бұрын
Right now I have wire fencing around the young plants. I'll prune older plants to keep them out of easy reach.

@@GardenerScott Thank you for the reply. I'm afraid birds will drop the grapes, and my dogs will pick them up from the floor. Maybe you can make the solution video in the future? Borax laundry (powder) detergent kills ants and helps fertilize the soil. The people who lived across my mom had 100 acres and every year especially during the spring and summer they would buy boxes and boxes of laundry soap and spread it all over their 100 acre farm and they never had ants. They also grew a good garden without a lot of bugs.

I want to send my daughter a Greenstalk too! Some reviews say the watering system is faulty, either soaking the bottom or running right out of the bottom. What do you think?
@GardenerScott2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a problem. They come with a tube that connects to the base to drain away excess water, but if it runs right out there either isn't enough organic matter in the soil to absorb it or too much water is being used.
