I have very fond memories of Ajo. I used to stay a couple of weeks each summer with my grandparents. My grandparents followed my Dad there. My grandparents moved the other 5 children and themselves to Ajo in the 1950s. My Dad's siblings, 3 brothers and twin sisters, all graduated from high school in Ajo. My grandpa and all 3 uncles worked for Phelps Dodge. My grandma is buried there and I haven't been back since 2011 but will be going soon to check it all out. Ajo was a bustling town when the PD mine was in operation!! From my grandparents front yard we would watch the slag train head out and dump the slag...looked like hot lava and it was amazing!! Thank you for showing that Ajo is still a nice place and worth checking out. My Dad never did work for PD but worked for ASARCO at the Silver Bell mine, west of Marana, and that townsite no longer exists either. I lived the life of a miner's daughter and I am so proud that I am a miner's daughter for I know that my Dad worked so very hard, as did the other miners, to provide for his family. Ajo was bustling town back in the day!!

I now live in Tucson. Next year I will come back to visit this town I once saw a few years ago before moving here. A quiet rest spot on the way to Yuma.

I love all the murals! Some people are just so darn talented! Wow there's so much of it to see. That's so awesome! This is my kind of stop here!! That visitor center is awesome. Can you just imagine back in the day, ladies in their long dresses standing around the area waiting for their train to arrive? I didn't think your video was shaky. The historical society building is awesome too! I love old buildings!! Very awesome place to visit. Enjoyed watching this very much!

Thanks Felix. There’s more in Ajo than I imagined. We couldn’t see inside these places as it was closed on Sunday. I would loved to have seen them and learned more history of the town.
