We picked tomatoes from a huge field that either could not ship because of the COVID-related supply chain collapse, or maybe just couldn't ship as many as they normally would. $5 per 5-gallon bucket. I canned those. And I picked apples from one friend's trees and peaches from another friend's trees, dehydrating some and making preserves and butter from those. I can't grow everything, but there are ways to get more.

There is going to be a whole lot more of that every single farm in Washington and California is being tested. Some Farmers have spoke out. some of them have said that if they don't follow the government regulations or what they want they will shut them down. I won't get too deep and what's really going on with the food industry but long story short they're trying to cut our food supply so that GMO food can be more of a thing.

For inexpensive seed containers(boxes). I go to my local cigar/liquor store. As they sell out cigars they turn around and usually sell the boxes they came in for a dollar or so. I put seeds in little Ziploc bags and put the bags in the boxes alphabetically. Easy and the boxes look nice.

Thank you for this video, Melissa! My family started to learn homesteading 12 years ago as we fell in LOVE with the pioneer lifestyle of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s day through an adventurous homeschool study of the Little House series. Listening to you feels like visiting with a good friend, as she shares all the homemaking projects she’s currently enjoying. With everything going on, this returns me to the sweet and simpler days of learning all of these self sufficiency skills with my sons. Thank you, I’m so grateful I found your podcast and KZbin channel...it provides comfort, positivity and renewed energy to keep practicing and honing all the skills that bring peaceful warmth to the home.

It’s always great to be prepared. Not all garden crops are hard to store. I harvest over 100 butternut squash each year and in a regular cellar they last until May. Potatoes onions and garlic are easy. Under mulch carrots and beets can be harvested all winter. Even if there are no food shortages it’s very satisfying to enjoy your own produce all year. It also might be a great idea to preorder seed starting soil. It was in short supply this year

This is very interesting to me because I have always been a prepper, but I have to make a lot of adjustments since my husband has passed and my children are grown and gone. Most of them are also gardeners and preppers so I don't have to worry about them. I don't eat a lot, being small and old, but I have learned to plant a lot of what I like in my limited space and don't waste space on things that I don't love, that don't produce a lot for the space they take, or that are cheap at stores. That last part I might need to re-evaluate in consideration of possible shortages. For instance, I haven't bothered to plant onions before, but they are essential to me.

This is excellent. Keep passing on the knowledge you have gained, so it is not lost. I homeschooled my 5 children some at the same time. This information would have been a great unit topic covering several course studies like health, science, math, reading, preparation etc. My children just recently said it now makes sense why I purchased extra beans or hard to find items (like the cherries for their Grandmothers Cherry Blossom). I waited a long time to hear that and it was an unexpected blessing when I needed it. Thank you.

Excellent video! We try to keep a supply of normal consumables. When a snowflake falls in our area, people rush to the stores and buy it out of milk and bread. When TP disappeared from stores, I was actually wanting to pick some up at the store, but it wasn't available for nearly 4 months. It let our supplies get low, but when it became available in the way we wanted it, we just got a pack each time we went to the store (limit 1 per customer), and now we are back in stock. People may look at you holding some supplies as going overboard, but it really helps to have what you need without having to worry about running out of it. One thing for entertainment that our family does is reading, both individually, and as a family. Since we have children ranging from 10 to their 30s, and now grandchildren, we have taken to reading and writing stories. Our hobby has grown into a near obsession, and after nearly 20 years of writing, we now have 3 authors in our family that have books available on Amazon. If you like reading, we have books for many ages, that we can read to our grandkids, and their parents. If you search Amazon with the keyword "DeBokton" you can find what we have out there.

Which means we are shut down to hiring outside labor on our 350 acres. Very nice seed storage container! I am a retired Sr. Buyer and have concentrated on stocking up through the next six months or more. The "more" depends on how much help our neighbors will need. We watch out for each other as much as possible. Your videos are helpful to me regarding herbs and spices I have not grown or used. Plus you help to remind me to focus in areas that I overlooked. You have given me some great ideas for my latest garden project. We are fortunate to be in a rural area with many surrounding farms. We buy from each other. We only raise grass- fed beef for breeding stock and rely on our neighbors for chicken, lamb, pork. I do not believe N.H. has a drop zone for Azure. Does anyone know a company that delivers to New Hampshire? We used to have Erwon, Llama and Walnut Acres, but sadly they are not in business now.

Really love the seed saver container you have and bought one myself last year. I try to save as many seeds as I can now so I don't have to buy more unless a special variety I want to grow but have all the basics. Praying there is not a second wave and life can return as normal as possible so people can get back to work.

I use those containers in my craft room for supplies. Hadn't thought to use them for seeds. Great idea!

If you can pick up a couple of scrapped fridges you can use them until you can do something else.Bury them into a hillside and cover the lid with straw bales, leaves, whatever you can find for insulation.

I have been buying a thinner ribbon, lots of different sizes. Also bought shoe strings. Can also use material scraps to make ties to tie behind the head or ears. Could not find elastic, still cannot.

Got two combo pears from rain tree three summers back. Already produced their first crop this summer. Just the Harrow pears so far, but I was impressed how well that one variety produced in just its third summer. I look forward to seeing how the other variety’s do one they come into production.

if you are looking for longevity, grafted trees don't live forever like standard size ungrafted fruit trees do.

I think we are at a time we need to spread the skills to our neighbors and friends, get them prepping in some way. Because, when others are desperate they will go to those who have prepared, and we know that doesn't turn out so well.

I don't know how much the "seed holder" costs on Amazon, but Lakeside.com has it as well. They call it photo storage.

Just found your site yesterday and love everyone I've watched since. Now my biggest need that hopefully you can direct me with is to find natural herbs and ways to treat my cat's parasites and severe allergies. If you know of another KZbinr who treats animals, please, let me know. Thank you so much for great info and recipes!
