Just purchased a 2023 Ioniq 5 SE. Wanted the most range, so got the larger battery which gives 303 mi of range. Planning a road trip next summer, so subscribed to your channel to help me out. Thanks for such helpful videos! P.S. Am a 74 year old woman who just bought her first electric car. Proud of myself! LOL.

I learned a lot about EV charging devices from this episode. Charging system seems entirely different from ICE car fuel injection system. You're planning to crisscross the States from the North-western tip down to the South-eastern tip. It surely will be a grand journey demanding huge amount of physical and mental energy. I pray for the safe and enjoyable trip on your Hyundai (literally meaning 'modernity') Ioniq 5. 준언, an avid subscriber from Seoul ^^

Thank you. Hyundai has equipped this car with the Highway Drivers Assist 2. It actually does much of the driving for you. The sound levels in the car at highway speeds are very low, so it makes the trip very relaxing. I highly recommend buying this car for anyone who loves to drive long distances. Thank you very much for giving me the meaning of Hyundai, I will bring this up in future episodes.

Hyundai is written as 현대 in Hangul, the Korean alphabets. The word is originally a Chinese one. Koreans used to write lots of words in Chinese characters decades ago, but nowadays we seldom use Chinese characters in writings. Instead, we use Hangul, a very scientific alphabet system INVENTED by a great king and a group of scholars in the 15th century. Hangul (한글) can accurately represent a myriad of human language sounds. I dare say it is one of the marvelous achievements of human civilization. ^^

I recommend a Juice Booster which constitutes the Swiss army knife of chargers.The good thing here in Europe is that the Tesla plug is basically the normal Type 2 AC plug, since the car has a different kind of AC plug here. What I do not know is whether Tesla delivers DC on that plug which would be non-standard, but I know that you can fast-charge on Tesla chargers T3 ... as far as I know.
@evatrics5902
@evatrics5902 Жыл бұрын
The Tesla plug which they have named the North American Charging Standard otherwise known as NACS. It delivers both AC and DC charging to Teslas and soon to Ford. The adapter in my video only works for AC charging in CCS cars.

Thanks. We are way behind in Editing the videos. We have been all the way to Key West and are on our way back now. 6500 Miles so far and on a couple of occasions we had a charger shut off prematurely and had to move to another charger, but Electrify America has never let us down. I understand right now they are having trouble getting parts when things break, so it's not uncommon to see a charger our of service, but I have never seen two at the same stop. Also I heard that EA plans to start building it's own chargers to make sure that it doesn't have to rely on outside vendors.

Cool vid. I installed an EMA plug and plan to plug in directly to it without a charging unit. Is better to plug in direct or purchase a charging unit?
@evatrics5902
@evatrics5902 2 жыл бұрын
The chargers also known as electric vehicle service equipment have protocols that work between the unit and the car. Failing to follow those protocols could ruin your car and possible cause an electrical fire. Buy a unit.

Can that tesla destination charger adapter be removed while the car is charging? What I would worry about is if it is charging at a public station, the adapter can be stolen
@evatrics5902
@evatrics5902 2 жыл бұрын
Colsoulaw, it is possible to unplug the Tesla charger from the adapter, but in the Ioniq 5 you can not pull out the J1772 plug without unlocking the doors, so no you can't steal the Tesla Tap adapter. Thanks for watching.

@evatrics5902

John, before we bought our Ioniq 5 we had a Mach E on order for over 32 weeks. During that time we installed a Ford Connected Charge station. It’s hard wired to a 60Amp breaker and puts out 48Amps. It does a lot of things that I don’t need it to do, because the Ioniq 5 Blue Link app does the same thing, but it does charge our car at the maximum level 2 rate. It can charge our car from zero in around 7 hours. Also, if I ever go crazy and buy a Lightning F150, I’m set.

Makes no sense. A Level II charger will take 8 - 10 hours to take an Ioniq 5 from 20% to 80%, so you're limited to 260 - 300 miles of driving every day. You need to find a Level III CSS charger to replenish and get back on the road. The only use for the adaptor is if you only have a Tesla charger for overnight charging.
@evatrics5902
@evatrics5902 Жыл бұрын
Of course we DC Fast charge on the road during the day, but at night we stay in hotels. These hotels often have free destination Level 2 chargers or Tesla level 2 chargers which are much better for your battery than a DCFC. I never DC fast charge to 100%, it's pretty bad for your battery, but I will charge on a level 2 charger to 100% so my first stop the next day gets push out distance wise. Also, occasionally we stay at a VRBO that has a Nema 14-50 outlet that allows us to push in our portable level 2 charger.Thanks for watching.

Oh my goodness, when I look at all those different plugs and cables plus the space needed to store them in your car plus luggage just to to travel I have to ask why would anyone want to own an EV when basically refueling your car becomes that complicated and inconvenient. Why are they not all standardized. Sounds like another money making racket to me. Please enlighten me on what am I missing here?

Those are destination 'chargers' that the businees owners have installed. If they don't have a spare j1772 unit then he still can get an overnight level 2 charge.

Jake, I’m sorry, I thought that I commented earlier. The Tesla-tap does not work at Tesla superchargers. It does work at Tesla (level 2) wall chargers located at many hotels and vacation rentals around the world. Having said that Elon says that he might open the superchargers to all cars. Tesla has already done it in certain European countries. Also if Tesla wants to get a portion of the recent infrastructure bill, it will probably have to open the superchargers to all cars. That would seem to be a win for Ioniq 5 owners and a loss for Tesla owners, it’s probably going to be a mess for everyone since Tesla’s will also be able to clog nearly empty CCS. fast charging.
The perfect Ioniq 5 charge, 10% to 80% in 18 minutes
