When I go curb side scrapping my essential in-the-car tools are: (a) A magnet, (b) a pair of side cutters and (c) an impact driver with a long number 2 philips head. I reckon you should add a hand file to your list, since that can be used to work out if its brass, ally etc before you fork out for a bench grinder or angle grinder. You can tell the difference between stainless and aly by how soft it is when filing.
@Okiescrapper3 жыл бұрын
I did mention a file toward the end of the video, if you look at the thumbnail pic it is inside the hack saw. yeah that is a tool that I rarely use, but is needed if you don't have a bench or angle grinder and starting out may not have much cash to work with, a file is cheap

I have a small gen in my truck all corded power tools. Old school tools. I have pipe wrench with cheater bar for those tough pop off valves and the normal tools you displayed. Also nice having generator to test stuff on the spot to see if it's a working item. I do a lot of cutting at road side so I can fit more in the truck. Like chairs tables so everything lays flat.
@Okiescrapper3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like a nice setup, being able to cut on sight is nice. picked up a few swing sets and no way to cut them down. they take a while to pull the bolts out, the generator is a nice touch, I have a 500 watt inverter that I used to run a small air compressor when I was doing junk cars, now I have a 1 gallon cordless Ryobi, Thanks for watching

I know you have probably answered this, but how do you get the stuff to scrap? Due you buy electric motors and stuff at auction? Dumpster diving and curb finds are getting harder with allot of new scrappers
@Okiescrapper3 жыл бұрын
well tom I live about 6 miles outside of a small town and we have an electric coop, and they put out a small paper every month, and I run a free add in the paper for scrap metal wanted, also the town has a transfer station that I can go to and get scrap, the transfer is like a dump, except they have a compactor for house trash and 4 roll off dumpsters for the bigger stuff. a recycling bin and a place that people can dump scrap metal, there are a few others that get scrap from there. I listed my add this month, I have to have it in by the 10th for it to be in next month's paper. March and April may be a little slow but come May I will be very busy. another town that I drive through on my way to work is having a large trash pick up soon. thanks for watching
