LakeForkGuy oh wow watching this video was like a light bulb moment for me! I've been fishing braid for almost a decade and I never quite thought about braid that way. Now I know why I'd try some new expensive braid, be wow'ed for a while, only to go back to powerpro original after a month or so, feeling all sorts of disappointed. With so many brands and variations out there it's so easy to get caught up with the price = all-round-performance hype. Seems I've been tryna use Ferrari's and Lamborghini's for the wrong application! Great video dude, love all your videos, and a huge watsuuup from Singapore! Keep it comin!

I had some reels re-spooled with braid, but it was the slick style braid, and I had so much trouble with backlashes, twists, knots, snapping line, you name it within the first few days of fishing that line! Granted, I am not an overly experienced fisherman, nor is my son, but we both noticed a major difference in durability and being able to maintain tightlines! We are surprised that a reel or two are not at the bottom of our local lake!! We have a spool of original Power Pro...15 lbs...on our only bait caster, that we are both learning with, and it is still going strong after a lot of good use!! I will change it out when a fish actually snaps the line!!

Another reason why I use fluorocarbon over braid is the sensitivity over braid in slack line. You can argue and say this or that but the fact is that fluorocarbon has now sensitivity imo because it adds more depth and versatility. Great video either way. Power pro is my favorite braid. Been trying to get my dad to switch over to power pro for a long time but he's stuck on spider wire. I hate spider wire.

I was using PowerPro since they first came out, but I've recently discovered Spider-Wire Invisi-Braid and Stealth Braid. I get zero wind knots from my spinning reels, and it casts soooooo much further than PowerPro. They're also a lot smoother.
@l.i.archer53798 жыл бұрын
SpiderWire makes Invisi-Braid, and I've used it in saltwater for fluke (aka summer flounder), striped bass, and scup (aka porgies). Spider-Wire also casts way farther with my equipment than original PowerPro. Invisi-Braid does almost disappear in water, which helps immensely when coupled with a fluorocarbon or mono leader.

Power Pro 40lb moss green is my favorite. After tried other like SpiderWire, Daiwa, Chinese braids...I am glad I ordered 1500 meters of 40lb Power Pro when it was on sale. ( white Power Pro is bad. It doesn't have the wax impregnated, it's rigid, cuts into ceramic rings and get bird nest easily.)

Recently switched to the cheapest Spiderwire braid Bass Pro has to offer, usually around $15-19 for a 300yrd spool....I run the 50lb on my heavy rods for striper fishing. It's usually tipped with 20lb flouro leader. I also like to use the 18-20lb braid on my go to spinning Rod. I throw everything from jerk baits, cranks baits, drop shots, and even live minnows with a weight bobber...love this stuff. Never again will I buy the crazy expensive power pro or any other high dollar braid.

If I had to use only one braid, it would be Berkley Pro Grade coated all the way. The technology is incredible, and the strands are wrapped around a central strand so the line stays round. Flattening is the number one problem with braid, and this braid will not flatten. It also has dynamic memory, and this makes it work amazingly well. All the follow up would be Berkley, as well. As for invisibility, fluorocarbon leaders solve this well enough to suit me.

I can really see the difference in the brands. I use to use spider wire. which is a good line but I've started using powerpro on my bait casters and there's is a huge difference. the size is the first thing I noticed. then water retention. spider wire is thicker and seams to hold water. and after you cast and real a few times the line fluffs up and won't cast as fair and hang more.

@brianclowers89848 жыл бұрын
Hey Justin, couple of questions... 1, How often do you change the braided line on your reels? 2. Do you use backing on the spool or just straight braid to a flouro/mono leader?
@LakeForkGuy8 жыл бұрын
+Brian Clowers I change braid about once every 6 months unless it's a frog rod that seeing heavier abuse, then I'll change it every 3-4 months. I will use a backing on deeper spools, but don't use backing on the 50 size reels. I always use backing on a spinning reel though due to line slippage.

Use 8npound braid for ultra light
@wolfdue22364 жыл бұрын
Of course you are right. The smaller braid is not practical. it cuts into your fingers and burns your hands, hard to see in the dark and tie knots, tangle easily. The smallest braid I can work with is 30lb. Try Walmart monofilament 'Trout S O S' made by Leland's Lures. It comes in 2, 4, and 6lb. Strong as hell, cast a mile, and super low memory. And you can't beat the price. Wish you catch more fish.
