G'day from Perth Western Australia. I learn so much from your channel. Our climate here is dry & hot so my succulents grow very fast. Thank you so much for all your knowledge, demonstrations & advice. I always use cinnamon when repotting up my little babies now. 🙏🏽 I'm still new to growing succulents, started 11 months ago but really happy I found your channel to help me find the knowledge I needed to grow these beautiful plants. My Aloe Vera plant is so much happier now because I used to over water it not knowing anything about succulent care 20 years ago but now it's very happy & has given me many babies. Thank you Maria! I recently brought in some succulents my mother planted over 50 years ago and decided to plant them in containers. . . I used vermiculite rather peat moss. But my ration of potting soil + perlite + vermiculite was spot on to your version of potting soil + perlite + peat moss. Should I just add peat moss? Wil the vermiculite damage the succulents, I made 3 pots using my recipe - I believe the one with all little guys, is going to be ok. I have one with a med sized hen and chic mama and 3 little guys. - they seem to be doing alright - I’ll need to make some adjustments on their location but for now they hey about 6-8 hours sun through the window. Sadly I planted a large hen and chic big mama that had already started producing a little guy, Dad pulled it for me and I should of left him there fir a while Along with another 4 little guys to the side of the big mama but not realizing there was not a drainage spot in the bottom. I need to find another pot around here that does drain, even though I water and then drain the water, it is important I assume to have the drain spot at the bottom? Also how Often should I water?? It seems to be dry every couple days - and the big mama leaves are drooping whereas none of the others (ever the little guys with it) seem to be! Is it because it’s producing or not liking the change! It’s about 4-5” in size! Well thank for the info. If your able to respond - that would be great! Either way have a great day! PS I enjoyed your video & the info you gave was straightforward! Thank you for making these videos to educate me and so many others!!!

michele tran Hi my friend Hi my friend all the state has different temperature some are very hot and dry not humidity but some are very hot and a lot humidity also some state don’t have winter or much rain or very cool but I don’t recommend cactus soil for any plants or succulents doesn’t have good drainage and not nutrients for you plants if you’re in California and don’t have a lot rain you need to change the formula the I recommend for the state the get a lot rain you need to used less drainage material and more soil or coconut coir to keep your soil holding more moisture during the summer or the time of the year the doesn’t rain for example for you succulents and cactus you can used 20% any thing for drainage like perlite 30 peat moss and 50% any good quality light weight potting soil and Remenber to used the Epsom salt unscented and osmocote time release if you mix I cubic foot of soil you need to used 1/4 cup of each ingredient mix with your soil and you’re ready to good

I used to use perlite in my soil mix, but I don't like it as it separates from the soil and has a tendency to float to the surface. What I found works well and aids in drainage is using poultry grit instead of perlite. What do you think? You can get a 25 lb bag of poultry grit at Tractor Supply store or for the same price (appx $7) you can get a 50 lb bag at Rural King store. It drains extremely well and my babies are doing very well in the mix of Sta-Green potting mix and poultry grit. Do you have any thoughts on this method? When I couldn't get Sta-green potting mix I used Black Gold potting mix, also with good results. I live in Florida so I am still lightly watering my babies. Thanks for your great videos

6:37 Maria, you did this same soil tests in various videos. Of course you did something wrong. Peat Moss absorbs water well and reasonably fast when it is slightly moist. I am sure your "Good" soil has the same problems as your peat moss when ts bone dry. Bone dry soil always has problems absorbing humidity. Ever tried Vermiculite??? Vermiculite absorbs water fast and well. Once full of water, the rest is drained.

@@MariasgardenGarden Of course you did your best, but if your "good soil" was a bit moist and the peat moss completely dry then the peat moss would have trouble picking up the humidity fast. Dry soil, moss etc always needs a while to absorb water.

@Ullimately6 жыл бұрын
@@MariasgardenGarden coco peat is another trend. Most important for cacti is a pH of around 6 and that the water does not accumulate inside the soil. The cacti that grow naturally in our region basically grow in sand only. Of course there is always plant material that falls down and rots. I always add a bit of Vermiculite, it also absorbs water reasonably fast it is very light and lets excess water pass easily.
