I just learned that the maui Jim’s I got last year are glass. I’m loving them because there are so clear and unlike other glasses that I’ve owned in the past, they stayed that way! No micro scratches from me barbarically cleaning my lenses with my T-shirt. I’m trying to research how safe they are to do things like drive with. What’s your take? I’m just imagining g-forbid my airbag goes off and that’s the end of my eyeballs.
@sportrxeyewear2 жыл бұрын
Hey Homer! You're certainly right, glass lenses provide the best clarity and scratch protection above all other materials. The tradeoff however is a heavier lens with no impact or shatter resistance. That said, many people still opt for glass understanding the risk. Ultimately, it's up to the wearer but if you're concerned about the lens shattering, maybe opt for trivex or polycarbonate lens materials over glass for driving.

Either would be great and just as safe for you! My favorite is Trivex because of its optical clarity.

What lense would you recommend for -0.25 + 2.50 101 -0.50 +2.50 75 in a oakley marshal frame. My options are poly,trivex and 1.67. Thanks for any input
@sportrxeyewear3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question! My recommendation would be Trivex. Your prescription is mostly astigmatism and the axis puts the majority of the edge thickness in the vertical meridian, which is ideal and would mean that the minor added thickness from Trivex would be negligible. The real benefit would be the optical clarity boost you get from the material. I am a big advocate because of the difference it makes for my prescription (also primarily astigmatism correction). I hope that helps! Don't forget that we have very friendly, knowledgeable opticians who would love to help walk you though the perfect setup for you at 888-831-5817!

In speaking to some eyeglass shops around me, I'm finding contradictions about your video? I'm being advised by more than one shop that Trivex is thinner than Poly, but you said the opposite. Also you stated Trivex is more impact resistant than Poly, but again the stores around me are saying this is opposite. Just looking for some clarity, can you comment?
@sportrxeyewear4 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank! Polycarbonate lenses are thinner and lightweight compared to trivex lenses. Trivex is a bit better in impact resistance but is much more durable as it has a higher tensile strength. We hope this information helps and thanks for reaching out!

Hi i have a question. What heppens if the glass is heated at very low temperature
@sportrxeyewear4 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question! That depends on the material and how hot they are getting. If you are referring to glass, specifically, then you shouldn't have any concerns. If something is heated at 'low temperature', it doesn't sound like it is getting excessively hot, so it shouldn't be a worry!

What’s the best lenses to get with designer glasses? The glasses are new never used. They are Gucci. I have the frames but I’m purchasing lenses from a eyeglass store. I don’t want them to break the glasses. So I want to know the best recommended eyeglass material to ask for. Because they told me they can’t 100% assure they won’t break so they give all costumers a warning when purchasing lenses.
@sportrxeyewear4 жыл бұрын
Hi Shardayee! Both polycarbonate and trivex lenses will work, it would more matter on how well they mount the lenses onto the frame. The better option of the two would be trivex as it is more durable. We hope this helps and thanks for reaching out!

Do raybans use trivex for their plastic lenses?
@sportrxeyewear4 жыл бұрын
Authentic Ray Ban lenses are available in prescription in a few different lens options, but not Trivex. In non-prescription, they are also not available in Trivex, unfortunately. A more succinct 'no' probably would have been plenty sufficient.

what exactly is visual acuity?
@sportrxeyewear4 жыл бұрын
Visual Acuity - or VA as you'd likely see on your Rx - is a generic understanding of how well you can see. Commonly, that is when you hear 20/20 vision, which means you can see a determined amount of detail to fit into the category of "you don't need corrective lenses" from 20 feet away. Think of the chart that usually has the big E at the top. It's a nice general way of knowing how well you see, but it doesn't tell how to correct it - that is where the actual prescription comes into play.

My new glasses with polycarbonate lenses turned yellow within 10 minutes of wearing. The optician cleaned them, brought them into the sun, and they were clear again. By the time I got home, the lenses were yellow. The opthalmologist (in the same office) insists it's because I have a cataract on one eye, the other has been treated post-cataract removal, with a YAG laser for clarity. If I patch my cataract eye, the lenses are still yellow/brownish. I feel gaslighted all around.

Interesting 🤔It could be that the lab producing the lenses used a blank that was defective, to which they should honor a remake. If the lens is photochromic, it could be a result of that as well. Some photochromic lenses have a yellowish hue when in its 'clear' state depending on the manufacturer. Send some pics of the lenses to info@sportrx.com and a licensed optician will get back to you with a response about the lenses. 877.289.2999
