What Was Cartoon Network Like in 2001? | VHS Review

The worst thing is that, when I look at Cartoon Network continuity videos, I wish I had taped more and saved more tapes than I did... The problem is, when you're a kid especially, you don't think to the future. You just naturally assume everything will be the same forever and nothing will change, and that sucks. Sure, I have many great VHS recordings as it is, but I remember having so much more. There was one I remember from the Powerhouse era. I managed to save The Tidings, Flying Rhino Junior High, Fat Dog Mendoza, probably many more classics. I remember the cassette shell getting absolutely wrecked from kid me's misuse, but the tape still worked. I lost the video about 20 years ago, and it still hurts me to this day...

@@Gondarth I got them from Cex this week. I have put a list of episodes on all 4 DVD's on my channel community. But if you looking for Ed Edd n eddy's Christmas special (which I believe isn't from the so called complete series DVD), that's where you'll find it. Yes, about 1/4 or 1/3 are Christmas specials I've noticed.

Yeah, and I was too late and/or too lazy to work the video recorder, so I have to cling on to the four or so tapes I still have. You've probably been luckier than me, honestly!

​@@BacktothePast The joys of recording TV in the pre-Sky Plus era. If you miss a recording, or the recording itself sucks, you had your chance and you blew it. At least with S+, as long as you had the recording saved on the Sky box, you could always redo it if you have the time. I think, for me, I just got lucky because I put a lot of my tapes in an old shoebox under my bed and I forgot about them for the better part of a decade. I do wish I had more, but 15 tapes of goodness isn't half bad...

As someone who had a large majority of CN from 1999-2002 (when I had OnDigital/ITV Digital) and 2004-10 (when I had International Satellite TV), this video was a huge throwback and quite nostalgic in places. Thanks for this upload! (also had a lot of stuff off CBBC Channel from Freeview and others. I don't have them anymore sadly)

Some great memories. 2001 was one of my favourite years for cartoon network: In just one decade, WB had succesfully revived their animation division with acclaimed animated series, and aquired a massive library of cartoons with Hanna-Barbera and CN IPs. There was great quantity and variety between the classic toons, the DC series, the new CN shows and japanese anime.

14:55 that's what happened to my special Batman recorded vhs tape from California the last Batman the animated series episode was incomplete it stopped right in the middle of a koala yummies commercial Back to the Past! 👍❤️📼

Funny thing is, Classic Nick Jr UK is a Treasure Trove on the internet. You never know which rare promo you'll find. And then there's "Face". Ooooh boy, this mascot. LOLOL.

Since your a huge cartoon cartoons fan i have a few questions Do you remember seeing time squad, sheep in the big city, evil con carne and whatever happened to robot jones Those are great cartoon cartoons that arw forgotten through time but vindicated and rejuvenated by fans Also, ever seen any of the old pilot shorts cartoon network showed back then Some of my favs are imp inc, foe paws, yucky duck, pizza boy in no tip, my freaky family, there were even pilots that were shown that became series later

I used to watch all of those shows - in particular, I really enjoyed Time Squad. Sometimes I liked watching them because they were more obscure and tended to be on later at night, so they felt a bit more "unique". I don't recall any of the pilots ever being shown over here, though, or if they were, I must have missed out on them growing up. 🙂

I have a question Since your a huge fan of the powerpuff girls What are your thoughts on my life as a teenage robot Its one of my favorite nicktoons The creator rob renzetti actually worked on Powerpuff girls and dexters lab beforehand

If you look inside the actual tape, it's possible it could be twisted, or it might just have deteriorated from overuse, being an analogue format.

I'm also a huge Dexter's lab fan In my opinion the show maintained its quality throughout its run (even though the person who ran seasons 3 and 4 is a piece of shit) Some of my other favorite cartoon network originals are, cow and chicken, I am weasel, Johnny bravo, Powerpuff girls, courage, Ed edd and eddy, sheep in the big city, time squad, billy and mandy, evil con Carne, samurai jack, robot jones, kids next door, fosters, megas XLR, camp Lazlo, my gym partners a monkey, squirrel boy, chowder, flapjack, adventure time, regular show, robotomy, gumball, secret mountain fort awesome, uncle grandpa, Clarence, we bare bears, ok ko, mighty magiswords, craig of the creek, Victor and Valentino, elliot from earth, Mao Mao, tig and seek, close enough, and apple and onion I do like Steven universe but I wouldn't consider it one of my favorites but I still enjoy the show

It’s not that I don’t like the third and fourth seasons - I’m actually old enough to remember watching them when they were new - but the episodes weren’t really as memorable compared to the originals. And I’m making another CN episode featuring some of the cartoons on your list, so keep an eye out for it!😄
