The Hindenburg was filled with hydrogen - that's the main reason for the disaster. The word for those airships I've always heard is dirigible. The Goodyear blimp is filled with helium.

Hendenburg was the name of the Zeppelin. Zepplin and blimp are the English and German words for the helium flying machines. I remember being a kid in San Antone and seeing the Goodyear blimp float up in the sky. I may be wrong but I believe the Hendenburg caught on fire while testing. I remember the film of it had a voice that said "Oh the Humanity!" in horror from watching it burn up.

Zeppelin is BOTH the name of a company and the name of the airship it self. This is where the confusion comes from. Ferdinand von Zeppelin pioneered the design of the Zeppelin and founded the first company to create them. Hindenburg is the famous one everyone knows about burning. There was 10 Zeppelin crashes before that one. That was just the one they finally decided its time to pull the plug.

By the time it happened in the late 30s, air plane technology was far more promising both militarily and commercially. Between the extensive real time media coverage, the commercial nature of the Hindenburg, and airplane technology showing far more promise, all these factors are what finally put an end to the advancement of the zeppelin

Actually, that's part of the reason the guy wanted more. They don't make ANYTHING as well or use very good materials any longer. Most lures are plastic. I have some hand made Scandinavian, beautifully painted and airbrushed musky plugs that I paid top dollar for, still in their original boxes, never used and I would expect to get more than I paid for them. They are now Collector's Pieces and you couldn't buy them now if you paid double for them.

Yep Poland played a very tragic role, when these two friends, Hitler & Stalin started WW2 and together invaded Poland at the exact same time 1 sep. 1939, and started to do the horrors to the polish people. . . Not least Stalins Katyn-massacre... and where like 25k polish people were ported to the Katyn forest.
