What was Milwaukee thinking? MX FUEL Pipe Threader MXF512

I got my hands on the industry’s first full-size, self oiling, self-contained mobile battery powered threader.
But why did ‪@MilwaukeeTool‬ spend the money on developing this? Isn’t threading pipe a dead skill? We answer those questions and more in this video.

To a dolly? Lol 😂 nobody's ever suggested you chucking down a 1" piece of pipe long enough to stick out both ends of the machine long enough so you can get on one end and your helper can get on the other end and lift it by the pipe and carrying it on your shoulders together? Or making a set of wheels out of 1¼" pipe you stick in the chuck to wheel it around on the ground by the legs of the tripod ?

The only thing I can think of to help this out is the ability to plug it in to charge and use. So if you have a station, it can be used then unplugged when you need to go mobile.

Anyone who buys this would no doubt own at least two batteries. One can sit on the charger when not on the machine. No need to plug the machine in, that defeats the purpose of eliminating the cord.

They wouldn't need to install a cord if they made one of these with both options available. They do it with the portable fans. It would just have an male inlet socket somewhere near the battery port. You would have to use your own extension cord, but at least you would have the options in case you forget to charge batteries or if your charger took a shit or for what ever reason came unplugged or tripped the circuit.

Actually, they really need to think about making one with both battery and wall plug features. Shit happens sooner or later, and what in the hell are you gonna tell your boss, if you pull up the job site and can't use your machine because of an uncontrollable battery charging mishap?

I love mine. I can easily get it out of my van and set the machine with no helper. Try doing that with a Rigid 500. Heavy mother f'er. Also, the machine threads, oils, and stops at the perfect thread count automatically. Prefect thread everytime! I do a lot of remote jobs (ranches, gas wells, etc) where there is no power and this makes life so much easier. I use this with my mega press and I can knock out jobs in no time. I wish tools like this were around when I was younger, life would have been much easier. If you're thinking about buying this, BUY IT, you will be very happy. Expensive? Yes, but worth every penny.

Comes with two batteries that charges from completely dead to full charge in 90 minutes. It can cut and thread 3/4" 140 times. I cut and threaded 2" pipe over 30 times, plus I was cutting many other sizes at the same time. Changed the battery and had more than half charge left on other battery. It was a VERY large commercial building. You will not run down 2 batteries in a day, even working a 12-hour day. This tool is legit.

Crimp gas piping is a joke honestly it shouldn't be allowed! A competent person can thread and build a piping system faster than all the cleaning it takes to prep a crimp connection! It's also easy to recipe later should you need to change a 90 to a tee or add something later! I remember when they bragged about the propress copper fittings 10 years later I was redoing everything a second company was hired to run the same time I did mine sweated together! You have heard if it ain't broke don't fix it? Ya it's true just use the true blue tape and then threaded pipe has no equal!! Fat and old I can measure and out build any of that pro press type stuff!! It also lasts as long as the pipe is good that other stuff depending on a seal and a crimp should be outlawed! If your dumb enough to trust it on water ok but flammable liquids oh hell no! Now plastic pipe has its place but if it's metal sweat it or thread it! Otherwise just use plastic or rubber like the seal the crimp on crap seals with!

​@cliffmcgeough789 yeah a bad idea if you're 3ft. tall maybe. But if you have that much trouble finding your mark using the most common style pipe cutter that comes with most model power machines, then you're not thinking about the small amount of extra effort you have to use with the standard cutter vs. the one you use. The one you use doesn't make you have to look over the pipe to see your mark, but I'm pretty sure the extra effort of the milwalkee doesn't compare to the damage you're doing to your body loading and unloading a big bulky ridgid of any kind. You might as well complain about the extra effort of unrolling an extension cord, and how it's a bad idea because of the increase in potentially tripping on the way to the wall plug.

Besides, I think all carriages are made to where you can interchange the devices on them. I had a ridgid power machine, with a Reed carriage. One the Reed carriage I had a ridgid reamer, ridgid die head, and Reed cutters. So I would hope milwaukee is the same way. You should be able to swap out the cutter it comes with for the cutter you prefer.
