The first day of OSRS was so nice, felt like a noob again but in the best way possible. With no GE I remember getting my mining and smithing to a good enough level to make full iron sets, then I went to the Stronghold of Security where people were collecting their free 10k and I sold them iron sets for 1k until I had enough money to buy a rune pickaxe.

Honestly i know after new content started being released the player base turned from pk and basic pvm economy to a pure PVM economy and people min-maxing. And then everyone wanted a ge so it would be easier, But i miss no g.e. Yes it makes it more simple but there was more of a community feeling with buying face to face. You could easily start a little business buying low selling high which i did and made a good profit.

Thumbleweed Unfortunately Runescape today is all about min-maxing, being super efficient etc. The players are mostly grown up not doing things the fastest way feels like a real waste of time and you have all the 15 years of knowledge and guides you need at the at the click of a button.

@@krilscape Yes but u need to understand that players who play the game are no longer 10-13 years old, all are aged 20+ and mostly play due to nostalgia. That being said game knowledge has expanded and people who are 25 years old and played game for 15 years do not want to waste time finding buyers for their 10 glories they have to sell, if u understand what I mean. As a kid u just had fun and didnt understand efficiency, now when you're older u just wanna spend less time doing something that is boring (like skilling agility or something), so u can focus on other fun stuff (raids, bossing etc.). If u wanna play for non efficiency making an ironman (if u havent already) is a good and fun way to play the game.

I only played on the original OSRS and got to 91 rc. Was around for the pure ess switch and abyss (was 50? rc or so already). Even minded my own at times due to costs. I'm blown away how the community is -ok- with certain pvm loot tables for resources, or some skills being pay to 99 in hours, but stunningly firm on RC staying so slow and terrible. At least the QoL and other changes would have made the abyss better compared to when I grinded, but would have been steamed to see a new rune not through the abyss (doom) and blood/soul having yet another resource invented to make the abyss even less meaningful. I actually enjoyed the cat and mouse once in awhile with Pkers so long as it was somewhat "fair". only like 3 ever managed to pull off a TB, entangle, and burn through all my 2 sharks + hp solo. A couple of teams of course were able to kill all npcs and keep the threat of level matching to ensure from 1-5 that one could get it. Part of the clever rc'er was to gamble which side of the river to sprint up, or do a fake out to another world while they wait for you for 20 minutes lol.

One of my biggest peeves is how common rune item/ore/bar drops are. What even is the point of smithing? Lol

It was amazing. No GE, you had to actually know how to play the game. It was a much harder game, and people who had good gear and high levels clearly knew what they were doing. As time went on, that effect wore off. Plus updates continue to make the game simpler and easier (we see this more in rs3 obviously). Also, almost nobody had gold. It was hilarious trying to get GP when you didn't have the levels for high alching and there was no GE.

on day 1 me and my friend went to silk stalls in ardougne and we pick pocketed silk and traded it to player for 1k an invo and then those player would sell to trader. We got like 30k an hour in gold lol which felt amazing. It was all so crazy and one of the best time ive had in my life tbh

I don't play Runescape anymore but the day OSRS launched I got off the tutorial only to see a bunch of people waiting in line, following a guy who was spreading the word that he's gonna do the waterfall quest with all of us. I think we went in with at least 400 people on just 1 server, shit was fucking intense. I saw so many people dying because we were all just level 3 that's it. It was a quest where'd u just run and forgot about all the dangers and only a few lucky people got out alive, I was one of them but man.. the fucking intensity, the people there who would wait in line so someone else would aggro the ogres, it was so much fun. There's always something special about a day 1 release, especially on this game because I think it was meant for people stuck on nostalgia and holy shit were there sooooooo many of them. The fucking servers were all flooded that day.

One of the best times in gaming for me. I Stopped playing when they removed the wilderness and never came back until 2013 osrs. I was not prepared at all, but I played 18 hours a day and managed to get top 50 85 slayer. I haven't played since October 2013 but I would come back again if they made a new fresh osrs.

I played runescape on release, It was seriously the best experience I have had on any game. It felt magical, being a kid still may have had something to do with it. The gameplay, the music, everything about it. Once guides and stuff were released the game has changed. The best part was discovering new stuff in the game as you randomly wondered around aimlessly.

I wish I could share this to every current osrs player. It's unbelievable how many people are satisfied with the current osrs. At this point it's just another rs3. The familiarity is gone, the nostalgia is gone. Why a 2013 reboot isn't even thought of is beyond me. Or even a 2008-2010 reboot, would be much better than osrs is today.

OSRS release was such a cool experience. Thousands of people starting completely from scratch was a truly unique experience in gaming(probably only comparable one would be classic wow). It was like everyone sort of knew what to do but at the same time at no idea what to do I remember tons of people in Ardy stealing silk together and a few people running back and forth to sell them and following people like RuneShark on the race to 85 slayer was awesome too. Thank god we finally got scroll wheel camera, resizable, and skill orbs on minimap though those were huge. Still waiting on them to roll out gpu rendering, ui scaling, and tooltips natively though lol

Day 1 was a ton of fun. The first thing I did was the Waterfall quest. It took me about 4 attempts but the XP was so worth it. The next thing I did was get level 25 agility so that running everywhere wasn't painful. After that I runecrafted 3k air runes and 1k mind runes so I could use magic for most of the quests. The next few days I spent a good amount of time skilling and doing more quests. Watching people steal silk and sell it back to the silk trader for money was fun to see. It was also a ton of fun to see the economy develop from nothing and people actually training skills to collect resources. It was short lived of course but it definitely reminded me of 2004->2006. In the first month of the game I fished something like 15k lobsters I think. Both in 2013 and 2015 I was in the top 5k for fishing and the top 10k for cooking. That isn't close to true anymore but man what fun the game was back then. Its still fun to come back to from time to time but its so more complicated now after 7 years of development that its different.

One of my good friends showed me Runescape back in 2002 and we played it every single day. Went from classic to RS2 and eventually RS3. Once EOC came out we quit. OSRS released when I was a senior in high school. My good friend I mentioned was 2 years older than me, so he graduated already. I get a call at lunch and he says "BRO OLD SCHOOL IS UP!" I immediately said fuck it and left school early. I got home to play it and the servers were shitting themselves. SO MANY PEOPLE ON TUTORIAL ISLAND. I've never seen Runescape this full since way back in 04-08. My friend was at work so I did what any friend would do and kept him updated the whole time with pictures of tutorial island and old varrock, lumbridge, etc. The servers went down so many times. They started coming back around 7-8pm and thats right around when my friend got home, so we immediately got on skype and started playing. Crazy to think I've played one single video game for 18 years. Sure, I've quit here and there, but it always drags me back in. My friend and I still play to this day, and most likely won't quit indefinitely until the game is no longer available.

I really liked this video. I remember Killers 455 back from rs2006. I think that along with EOC had a lot to do with the release of osrs. Jagex saw what type of support and how much money a couple of random teens made from opening up an unofficial oldschool server and Jagex wanted to cash in. It amazes me how long it took for them to realize. I remember those times there’d be 15k people on. It was my freshman year of college and I took a break while I adjusted and by the time I came back toward the summer, player count was up HUGE. I also remember being adamantly against the GE. i have some clips on my old computer of the first month of release. basically what i remember is the game had a huge amount of players for the first month and then it died down. selling unids was a popular money making method. rune scims were 70k and people were killing the fire giants in the waterfall quest area for them. we used zybez to make trade offers. The game was similar to iron man mode since everyone was new and no one had anything. I sold dragon bones for only 1k at the beggining. Natures runes were crazy expensive. but the first month of the game was the most fun tbh

I played day 1, I remember waking up so freaking excited and me and my online friend logged on and had so much fun, i even was on top page of highscores for mining for a few hours lol only time ill ever be on any highscores for osrs

In the first few weeks of OSRS release, an IRL acquaintance of mine at the time noticed all the lvl 3 bots running nats past tai bwo wannai & quickly released he could kill them all by hacking at the light,medium & dense jungles to spawn broodoo warriors & poison spiders. Long story short he made around $2.5k in the first month by selling all the nats & gold 😂. Whoever was running those bots woulda been so mad.

The true OG players back then.. now we have received players from rs3 and other WoW games that cry about more xp and money drops like whaf happen with Zulrah & NMZ that was worst updated ruined alot of ingame integrity

How many worlds were available for logging in on release? I also heard they had worlds with free to play designs before actual free to play was released.

Bottom line is OSRS isn’t so “OS” anymore. It’s basically Pre-EOC with oldschool graphics. The feel of it is nowhere near what it used to be and Jagex doesn’t care, they only care about money.

what tf are you talking about? there is no dungeoneering, there is no summoning, there is no eoc, the weapons remain the same as they were in old school, the point about osrs is to retain the core essence of what runescape was in 2007 AND continue adding stuff on top of it without changing the core of the game itself. I've been around 2006 playing this game, and to be honest, this does feel like home to most old school players like my friends who started even before me, and every single one enjoys this game as much as we did in 2007.

Did you participate in Godwars on the day of it's release? I didn't take osrs too seriously until 2017 as I continued to max my RS3 account first, so I wasn't involved on release day of GWD. I was, however, involved with GWD release day back in 2007 or 2008 whenever it was, but it was pretty dead ofc. I'd like to see OSRS footage if you have any!

Would really love to see a 2nd release but a version with no updates. Pre-GWD/Grand Exchange. I miss and want the OLD game. Old graphics, old NPC models, etc.

I really miss Soul Wars, they also could rework Castle Wars. That was what made the Game special to me. Remembering hundrets of Players killing themselves in the middle of the soul wars map. It was a Minigame for every player, regardless of stats. Everyone could play along...
