I just KNEW you would do a film on this! And, why not? Totally into this history. Not that much is know about the operation. Suppose it wasn't a huge Ally victory. There is more to the map that I'm betting you're colling ( collected) more info to share with us. Present day pictures would also add. Again thank you for your studies in WWII for this younger generation.

im confused about is why they chose Driel as a map. The Bridge was destroyed before anyone got to it. Most of the fighting was in and around Arnhem. And most eventually the British just dug in to defend Oosterbeek which is north of Driel. Driel is where the Polish Brigade landed and was at the other side of the river from the rest of the British forces. The plan was to hold it until 30th armor got to them because the river at this particular area was shallow Fordable and easy to build a bridge. So Oosterbeek would have made more sense for a map. Or Arnhem. I suppose Oosterbeek would have ended up feeling much like Carentan since it is mainly Urban. Still looking forward to it but is still a tad weird

I'll add that the 30th did end up getting close enough to give Driel artillery support but it was too late for Oosterbeek to the north. With no supply lines they had retreat by fording across the river to the polish on the other side under cover of darkness. Many of the British Captured from that point were the rear guard units or the wounded who had to be left behind with their medics. Of the rear guard 150 men went into hiding with the help of local resistence groups until Digby a survivor from the Arnhem bridge (guy with the umbrella) and his Number 2 made contact after escaping from a field hospital after being captured. Digby swam across a different point of the River and made contact with American and Allied command. Together they came up with Operation Pegasus that you would have seen in band of brothers. Digby swam across this river mulitple times as a contact with the hidden troops and americans. Then Easy company came and helped them get away. Had the Polish and British Not held Driel the the Oosterbeek forces would have had no where to retreat too. Im also no expert you can read up about such things in more detail and far better worded with maps and charts but this is a general summary

Interesting additional info. While making this video, i also started to wonder why they chose Driel. Probably because of the link to the Polish. North Africa also saw some Polish action I noticed while researching El Alamein
