The Catholic Counter-Reformation was the reaction by the Catholic Church to the challenge posed by Protestant faiths. Meeting at the Council of Trent, the Church made some important changes to reclaim the souls lost to, in its opinion, invalid religions. Join me as we delve into the details of the Catholic Reformation!

First, I appreciate that you don’t “hide behind” a domain name or pseudonym. Second, I doubt that I could make a better eight-minute video about the counter reformation. My attention span is closer to twenty minutes, however, so here are a couple of things I would include if I had the technical expertise and financial wherewithal to make a twenty minute video on this subject. (Not necessarily in order of importance:) Two of the suggestions that were made during the Council of Trent have been enduringly helpful to the papacy. Protestants were teaching that some of the unsavory symbols in the Apocalypse applied to the papacy. As a way to counter the protestant interpretations, one suggestion was that people be taught that nearly all of the prophecies of the Apocalypse apply to the past. The other was that people be taught that nearly all of the prophecies of the Apocalypse apply to the future. The first premise is the basis of the method of interpretation that has come to be known as preterism. The second is the basis of the method that has come to be known as futurism. Rather than say that Luther or other sixteenth century reformers “decided to break away from the Catholic Church”, I think I’d include some of the specific steps that led to the “break” - especially the steps that led to a blanket condemnation of Luther and the ideas he promoted with regard to justification, reliance on scripture and the nature of the priesthood. I suspect Luther’s motive - at least in the early stages - was to reform the institutional Church. My impression is that he didn’t approve or wouldn’t approve the use of his name to identify protestant congregations or denominations.

👆 Yes, all good points. I’ll add ~ Pontiff Leo X isn’t mentioned while Martin Luther is scrutinized. Q: IF Pope Leo X was living like an Apostles instead of like a Pagan Emperor ? A: NO Luther + NO Reformation.

Good video but with some inaccuracies: 1) at the time of the Protestant Reformation, Christendom was already divided between East (Orthodox) and West (Catholic); 2) the Jesuits were not established by the Council of Trent - like the other orders (Dominicans, Franciscans, etc.) they began with a group of men led by St. Ignatius of Loyola and were later recognised by the Papacy; 3) the Jesuits were not in charge of the Inquisition - there were actually many Jesuits opposing it. Keep up the good work!

Diogo de Sousa e Alvim the Reformation seems to be the Aftermath of the papal schisms, the popes and anti-popes. And also the fall of Constantinople led to an open door to books and learning - which led to the Renaissance. And Greek and Hebrew manuscripts of the Bible fell in the hands of scholars.

When I was a kid, I was always wondering why my family and I are praying to and for the dead ones when they said they are already in heaven. I was always wondering why we're praying to saints when the ten commandments said otherwise or why should I use priest to ask for forgiveness... Or why my school, which is catholic, gives bible which are emphasized on psalms and the 4 gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. You see, I read the Bible when I was a kid, without my parents' guidance. I hold on to it, really believing in Jesus. My household is Catholic but not even practicing. I grew up without strengthening my relationship and I was always looking for truth in my life, but I don't know why. Until there a point in my life when I was at my lowest. God called me to him and used people to the truth. When I grew up, I rekindled my relationship with God. Now He showed my the truth. There are struggles, yes, I did let go before. But by God's grace He'll let me go straight the narrow path. Please pray for me and my family.

Funny, that you don't mention King Henry VIII who founded The Church of England (Protestant) due to Queen Anne Anne Boleyn who King Henry VIII. Queen Anne Boleyn (National Geographic) who was once influenced by William Tyndale (The Tudor Society out of London) mentions Anne Boleyn as well as William Tyndale, also mentioned through The U.S Library of Congress. National Geographic's Article on Queen Anne Boleyn also doesn't mention Catholics Monks Aliso known as The Carthusian Martyrs of London King King VIII executed while establishing The Church of England with the help of Thomas Cromwell. You don"t remember when King Henry VIII when he turned against Pope Clement VII? hmmm....I can imagine that you don't recall when Protestants executed King Charles I & his wife Henrietta Maria in 1649 during The English Civil War? Henrietta Maria was the daughter of King Henry or Henri (IVth) from France. Of coarse Sir Edward Coke's Petition of Rights 1628) later became known as The Parliament Bill of Rights, in which, removed King James II's nephew, Prince William of Orange also known as Prince William III. Source: British Library: Parliament Bill of Rights (late 1600s) honored by The Magna Carta. Oh....Roger Williams who came out with The Separation of Church & State was a student of Sir Edward Coke who introduced The Separation of Church & State onboard The Lyon in 1631 who came to America in 1630. Roger Williams dot / biography dot htm. Also mentioned through academia.

King Henry VIII wanted a divorce. Pope refused. Henry divorced the catholic church and divorced his catholic wife against her protests. Catherine out: Anne in ~ English Reformation happened in a different way, for a different reason than the other European groups of people who were also exiting Catholicism in the 1500s. Henry had 6 wives + 3 legitimate children (1 catholic, 2 protestant) All 3 had time as Ruler after him.

The Catholic Church learned their lesson from Luther about "The Sale of Indulgences." Luther gave that practice a bad name and cost the Church MILLIONS, if not Billions over the years. Now a days, they don't actually "Sell Indulgences". Instead, they take "Offerings for Masses," so your loved ones won't suffer in Purgatory for an unknown number of years! This is a multi-million dollar a year practice, because people are always dying, This practice is so lucrative that Masses for the Dead need to be "Outsourced, " often to India or Africa. Google "Outsourced Masses on the Internet, and you will be amazed how priests in India are given 50 Rupees for saying a Mass, that cost 10 times as much in the States or Canada! It's the same old SCAM with a different name on it.

Paddy Mcgill actually the Catholic Church was founded by Constantine the Great through his conversion and also use as a political gain but he was never truly converted. He still practiced in pagan.
@KJJames1423
@KJJames1423 5 жыл бұрын
Paddy Mcgill you might want to read the Acts of the Apostles that was the early writings of the 1st century Christians. James the half brother of Jesus was head of the Jerusalem council during that time they were still practicing Judaism. The Bible has the final authority not the church. Read your Bible before it is too late for you to receive the Seal of God.
@KJJames1423
@KJJames1423 5 жыл бұрын
Paddy Mcgill if you read Daniel and Revelation... it will show you that the Roman and the Catholic Church (woman) is the one that Jesus is coming to destroy because it was the Catholic that allow inquisition and false teachings in the Church. They try to change the Ten Commandments (Law of God). Now like I said read your Bible and stop believing in the traditions of men and know the real God and Jesus or you will receive the seven last plagues.

KJames1423 the Church is what canonized the Bible (ie what books are included) Unlike the teachings of the Mormons or Muslims - the Bible didn’t just “drop from heaven”. It was categorically acquired and divinely inspired, yes, but the only reason we recognize what is Holy Scripture and what isn’t is because of the Catholic Church’s authority and tradition to discern. So how can sola scriptura exist, if the Church actually existed before Scripture was even canonized?

The Bible is on the list of forbidden books... I believe it still is today but could be wrong about that. I would argue the method of conversion was basically convert to Roman Catholicism or die.. hence the anathemas of the council of Trent which still stands today. If you believe in salvation by Faith alone and that works don’t increase justification you are anathema Cannon 24

Reform = to form again, to original IF Pope Leo X lived like an Apostle instead of a Pagan Emperor, then Luther wouldn’t be known. Waldo, Wycliffe, Huss were NOT “Rebels” or “Heretics”. Catholics can examine Popes for the REAL Story. These men (& others) sincerely want Reform WITHIN the church, BUT the church refused correction
