In my last video, covering the ground effect era from 1978-1982, I briefly touched upon a succession of boycotted races and attempts to flout the rules to keep a competitive edge that happened around this time. This has since become known as the FISA-FOCA war, which saw a rift between teams taking sides regarding things such as enforcement of the rules and regulations, organisation of races, allocation of prize money, and commercial rights. It’s something many F1 fans will have forgotten, and many others may never have heard of; but it ultimately completely transformed the political, organisational, and commercial structure of the sport. So, what was the FISA-FOCA war?
