What was the FISA-FOCA war?

In my last video, covering the ground effect era from 1978-1982, I briefly touched upon a succession of boycotted races and attempts to flout the rules to keep a competitive edge that happened around this time. This has since become known as the FISA-FOCA war, which saw a rift between teams taking sides regarding things such as enforcement of the rules and regulations, organisation of races, allocation of prize money, and commercial rights. It’s something many F1 fans will have forgotten, and many others may never have heard of; but it ultimately completely transformed the political, organisational, and commercial structure of the sport. So, what was the FISA-FOCA war?

Ground effect cars and political conflict about safety, rules, etc. 2022 is looking rather nostalgic for the FISA/FOCA times

And yet people complain about the politics between Mercedes and RedBull. Guys, things were even wilder before.

So they abandoned the strike because they were told they wouldn't be punished for striking then they were punished anyway? That doesn't make sense.

I couldn’t find anything on Jacky Ickx’s appearance at the 1982 South African Grand Prix online, nothing on his or the race’s Wikipedia page, where exactly did you get that piece of info? Either way, great video, and if the bit about Ickx is true than that must’ve been his last ever appearance as an F1 driver.

So, to make sure, the FISA aligned teams were Ferrari, Renault, Alfa Romeo, Osella and Ligier or Toleman too??, or is there anything wrong, I just want to clarify

Wow, I never knew Mosley committed suicide, that statement hit me like a freight train. That's very sad, also the reasoning behind it is honestly understandable to a degree. Rest in peace Mr. Mosley.

Max Mosley oofed himself because he had an incurable illness and simply couldnt face being life limited. He still had a good innings even though he was the son of Britain's Pound Shop Hitler Oswald Mosley. 😳

@@PeterBrookF1 it was very jarring to just have something like that mentioned super randomly in an otherwise somewhat calm video- i would have said it was better to simply say he died. Furthermore, the term 'committed' in the context is not the preferred term as it implies that suicide is a crime, and comes from an age where it was. In future I would recommend either simply saying he died, or using an alternative phrase such as 'died by suicide' or 'took his own life'.
