Where is prove that satan ever had a privileged place in the bible? The Ezekiel and Isaiah passage concerned prophesies against kingdoms existing in the era they were declared. And the parody they is more liken to the first man that was created so where is this deception that Satan ever enjoyed a privileged place coming from? Did evil happen then on the blind side of God?

Hank he asked you what the serpant looked like before the fall and you didn't answer his question. I believe the serpant had legs and vocal cords before God cursed it to be on its belly. Kind of scary to know that a snake 🐍 is not in its original God created state. Wow

Everything in creation that we can see, hear, touch smell , feel ,love ,hate, etc is only a shadow of a shadow of a shadow of the Real which is in heaven and hell, the invisible that we cannot see. For example the gentle ,innocent lamb represents The Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is/was not like a lamb, rather the lamb is like Jesus. The magestic Eagle, the Mighty Lion, the gentle Dove, the unmovable Mountain, the vast Ocean, the infinity of Space, the fruit trees, shade trees, flowers , grass , etc. Represent the characteristics of God and allow us to see what an invisible God is all about. He is the real Eagle, Dove , Lion etc. The snake, the wolf, the weasle, the pig, spiders, scorpions, darkness, terror sadness, depression etc represent the enemy of God, satan. Lets not put the cart before the horse. These representations and symbols are real and literal things and events to us yet they are only representations of the real whether good or evil. The real is invisible. We as humans got it backwards. Those who understand the symbolism want to make the symbols alegorical only and dismiss them as having any substance in our limited human world. The serpant was a real literal walking, talking symbol.

P.S. This is completely off the topic but is there anything in the bible or Holy tradition indicating that it is a sin for women to wear modest make up and jewelry? Ive heard a few people say that it is a sin to do do because its like saying that God didnt do a good enough job to make us look "better". I understand that there is a line between vanity and scandalising others and wasting too much time on our outward appearance. My question is more about wearing any bit of make up at all?

Scriptures neither condemn nor command the wearing of makeup and jewelry. Women are described as wearing makeup and jewelry (Esther 2:12-15; Gen. 24:22-30; Isa. 61:10) but never explicitly condemned for doing so. On the other hand, Christian women were taught by Peter that their beauty went beyond simply wearing of jewelry and makeup (1 Pet. 3:3). @ALD101 The snake having fear of being stepped upon is a colorful embellishment upon the tradition from Genesis. Not necessarily what the text is explicitly pointing to. The serpent crawling upon its belly is a primordial image depicting the defeat and destruction of the Serpent of Old, i.e., Satan. It is the Proto-evangel of the birth of the Child, who crushes the head of the Serpent. What Child is this? The incarnate Son of God of course. Whether reptiles, like snakes, can emote (e.g., experience fear) is a question the biblical writer (in this case Moses) neither tries to answer nor presumes to be the issue.

Hi Hank. Thankyou for your insight. I have a question regarding your last comment about satan not being able to materialise. We read and hear about desert saints such as St. Anthony the Great and other saints who literally had physical battle with the devil. We also hear about Satan being disguised in many forms, including as an angel of light. Isnt this a form of materialisation?

Your question will be passed on to Hank. Never looked into the St. Anthony the Great tradition. Satan and demons are non-corporeal. Humans are both corporeal and non-corporeal (i.e. body and soul; flesh and spirit; material and immaterial). They can still influence us through mind-to-mind communication. We can be fooled to imagine the deception is good news from an angel of light, which is why we need to put on the armor of God, but the battle is not against flesh and blood, and the armor is something different than the armor made of steel and Kevlar worn by soldiers, police officers and security guards.
