Have you all heard anything about impossible burger testing on animals?! I’ve heard this from a few people and I can’t believe that would do that when making a vegan option. Does anyone know anything about this?

They never have called their products vegan. They call them plant based. That way they can use ingredients like garlic powder and other spices, flavorings, that have been tested on animals. Jazmine and Chris have said that they are ok with this. They linked an article in which I read this info about the company using flavorings tested on animals and getting away with it by tricking you in calling it plant based, since they can't use the label vegan.

Unfortunately due to FDA regulations, they had to test one of their ingredients to get the GRAS certification in order to put their product on the market since it is a brand new ingredient that no one has used before. Of course I do not stand by animal testing but this was an unavoidable situation. The world we live in isn’t vegan along with some of the food and drug regulations that are in place, so it wasn’t something that impossible went out of their way to do, and I know that they would have avoided testing on animals if they could all together. The owner of impossible Foods is also a long time vegan with the goal to end animal suffering just as we are. I don’t think Impossible should be targeted here, it’s the FDA and their GRAS certification system. To put it into perspective, the exact same animal testing had to be done for many other ingredients when they were new to the market as well including pea protein and coconut oil (both of which are in beyond burgers, agar agar, caffeine, citric acid, nutmeg, peanut oil, potato starch, soy protein isolate, and soy sauce, to name a few. If you don’t agree, I’m not here to change your mind but I think with the opinion that you have in impossible, you might then also want to consider boycotting hundreds of other ingredients that went through the same test 🤷🏽‍♀️
