What we buy for a week with a family of 5

With the recent changes in our family, we’ve decided to change the way that we plan our week out. One of those big changes has been through meal planning and meal prep. It actually makes grocery shopping 1000 times easier having kids who route can get a bit tricky due to inflation. But doing a shopping trip once a week makes our life a little bit more simple. Let me show you what we bought.

Hey Marci, I make easy manicotti . Boil your noodles till almost done. Slide a piece of string cheese in the manicotti .Pour your sauce over and top with cheese and bake. Simple and good.

Remember that the chickens you have are duel purpose chickens. Layer and meat birds. From my experience with laying chickens Rhode Island Red don’t always lay eggs in the winter months. You pretty much need summer layers and winter layers to insure you get eggs in the winter.

Cog Hill Farm / Mrs Cog Hill raised meat chickens at their old farm years ago to sell the meat. They now have road island reds for their egg sales. So I think Brook would be a great resource to answer your questions about chickens.

Ok I think the egg issue is the type of chickens you have. We have a mix, Easter Eggers/Americaunas, Brahmas, Orpingtons, Australorp, Silkies, Polish, and Ayam Cemani. Today here in Houston in the freezing rain and the coops and runs totally storm proofed we got 10 eggs. Brahmas and Orpingtons tend to lay in cooler weather. The other breeds still lay but not as prolific as these 2 breeds. Truly think about changing your feed to BigV out of McAlester. I grew up there and we actually found the feed here in Houston. My local feed store said it's one of the best out there. I would be very careful with Rhode Island Reds, very aggressive roosters. I was spurred by one when I was Maverick's age. The Orpington and Brahmas are huge chickens, roosters are very calm as long as you handle them. My 4 year old granddaughter walks all in the runs and has never been bothered.

I have barred rocks and black copper marans for laying chickens. It is 10 below in Northern Minnesota and my chickens are still laying and I don't have a heater or lights on for my chickens. Both breeds are winter hardy and are doing great.

Marci, You are so organized! I remember going to the grocery store every couple days to meal prep 😂 of course the store was 5 minutes from my house so it wasn’t bad. I would of been in trouble if I lived so far away from the store like you.

Maverick did a great job with the prayet. That manicotti looks really good. I wish my kids had eaten more fruit 😢, they always turned their nose up at it. Looks like the boys eat very well and are not picky, nice

Road island reds eggs are the best, darker and richer yolk and the bread I try is the giant sunbeam bread it's always moist and taste so good, I love just eating it by itself lol

I buy cream cheese from Aldi and have no problem with it. It tastes just like Philadelphia cream cheese especially if I cook with it. Oh I also buy sour cream there.

You should make a large crock pot of spaghetti sauce and meatballs let it simmer all day, then divide it up and freeze it, purée (2) lrg cans and lrg can of paste seasoning oregano, garlic, onion salt small about of sugar

I know nothing really about farms or chickens, though we did have chickens when I was little, but now day watch tons of farm videos and Coghill's feed their hens a special layers feed for egg laying hens. I'm just wondering if that would help your current chickens lay more eggs.

I use tortillas to make chips so good spray olive oil and season what u like cut like the chips air fry them ! Your kids will love u ! AMD u will never buy ready bought ones u can use any thing on them and as for grape I did same with my twin I cut in to four I had one them chock ! On hot dogs even so I sliced them in fours anything I could I cut seeing them kids chock make me so worried

My mom would always talk about how my brother about ate her out of house and home when he was a teenager. She would make him a full breakfast and then two sandwiches for lunch plus other things and he would eat those before he got to school on the bus. And then he’d have to buy lunch at school And then he would come home hungry. Lol

They are on their last few weeks of bottles and then they won’t get them anymore. They actually drink right out of a straw really really well so that’s what I’ll move them to.
