The Crown Estate owns most of the properties. Officially those are notionally "owned" by the current monarch but cannot be left to anyone after their death. They automatically pass to the next monarch. Those properties do not attract inheritance tax because in reality they belong to the British state and are loaned to the monarch as part of the agreement for transition from a ruling monarchy to a Constitutional Monarchy with an Elected Parliament of the people. The reason they are notionally "owned" by the current monarch is to prevent the rights of access which would pose both a security risk and leave the land open to appropriation by a compulsory purchase order made by a local borough council to make money by selling it on to developers. Most of the properties mentioned in this "interview" are Crown properties, not personal.
