Morton is 2nd player beside Nyoni who really comfort with the ball, pass the ball quick and effective, I realise he is not typical DM but still, I really like that if Arne put him as pivot, even the single one.

The first thing I noticed was the double pivot dropping deep to engage in the build-up play, I noticed that they needed to be good press-resistant passers which would be ideal for Macca and Bajcetic. Second thing I saw was the 8’s underlapping (Elliot and Dom) in possession and positioned as the center forwards out of possession which would be ideal for Dom and maybe Cody. It was almost as if we had 2 right and 2 left wingers, which could allow us to get the best out of both Lucho/Cody and Dom/Salah. As we didn’t really have a striker playing, I don’t really know where Jota and Darwin would play. Might be where Elliot played. Mo did his thing in the left, Fabio wasn’t really impressing but he was constantly making good runs but Bradley never saw them, insert Trent. Overall it looked like a solid 442 out of possession and a 4231,4222,424 in build-up. Lots of FLUIDITY and FLEXIBILITY is what we can expect.

Signings shouldn’t be needed this season, but imo we should be prepared for Virgil’s and Salah’s (and Endo’s) departure. So a LCB, DM and/or RW should still be on our list. Signing them know means they can integrate into the team and style so they can directly replace them in a season (or 2)

An early prediction for our starting xi with the full squad could be: Cody and Dom as the 9’s, 10’s, 8’s whatever you want to call it. Lucho and Salah on the wings doing what they have been doing. Bajcetic and Macca as the double pivot, could still be Endo. Alisson, Robbo, Virgil, Quansah and Trent shouldn’t be a surprise at the back. (Even though Bradley keeps on impressing me)

When we have a striker back we are not going to play with two 10's like we did in that game. My fear is Endo playing as our DM playing this style of play because he is not very good at receiving passes under pressure from the centre backs. We need a DM that's good on the ball in tight spaces like a Pirlo type holding midfielder which is not going to be easy to find. Bjatejic could be the guy but it's well too early to know and a big risk to take expecting him to play in that role for the whole season when he is still a work in progress.

It will be a lot different when we have a number 9 back in the team we was playing with two number 10's. I'm liking what I see so far though the players are a lot closer together creating little triangles the passing seems to be quicker for it nobody dwelling on the ball too long. My only fear going into the new season is playing this way passing the ball from the back into midfield even when players are under pressure we need a DM that is very good on the ball that can receive these passes under pressure on the turn otherwise we are going to get caught in possesion a lot and Endo isn't good at that and I'm not sure we can rely on Bajcetic just yet as we haven't seem enough of him. And this kid Nyoni is going to be a superstar!

From what I noticed from the game, Slot likes to play out from the back slowly with possession and then pick up the pace during attacking and pressing. Slot also confirmed we didn't have a regular striker, so he had to use Mo and Elliott as double pivot for the false 9 position.

Curtis Jones with 100% passing and the one who influenced the whole game was Nyoni, who was progressive and up the tempo. This is why you don't rely on stats. Curtis Jones will have to become far more aggressive on the ball, otherwise the build up will be slow, predictable and susceptible to overturns. If he keeps playing backwards and sideways, I can only see Jones as a backup player.

Yep. He has a huge future. He has a little bit of Yaya Toure's passing style. Except that TN does more long balls. I just want to add he needs the same training regimen as Bajcetic. These 2 midfielders are too young, too frail, too weak. They need to bulk up a little bit before they can play with the big boys. He has another year in front of him before he can fully join the A team. I sense Liverpool will sell him for cheap and then he will surge with the welcoming club.

Awesome video, but can l nitpick on the pronunciation of Nyoni for a sec 😅 (Flashback of Peter Ndlovu pronounciations at Coventry back in the 90s). I hear a lot of N'e'yoni / N'a'yoni pronouciations from commentators as well. The trick is that the N and Y are basically joined together when you say it. Theres no invisible vowel between the two letters. At the moment of saying "N" stick your tongue to the roof of your mouth while intentionally trying to say "YO". The "NYO" should blend into one syllable at that point and will sound more beautiful. Otherwise great video and peace amigos!

We don't even know if this is how he will set up yet, could of been picking with the players available. What's definitely evident though is he is going to look to play with a double pivot. Endo really struggled and definitely not suited in this role, many times caught on the ball and so many times there was opportunities to play the ball over the top to either salah or Carvalho in wide areas. We need a player that's comfortable on the ball under pressure and has vision and passing ability I think that was the most obvious thing lacking in the game. If you replaced Endo with Trent, Elliott with either Jota or Nunez, Carvalho with Diaz or Gakpo then you would see a lot more chances created in that game. Other thing is clear he wants the team to be a lot more compact, short passes, players moving to create smaller triangles and then spring a pass once they drag teams out of position. We seemed to win the ball back a lot quicker and being more compact it looked harder to play through us too. Very decent for a first match IMO

Everyone will be talking about Nyoni and rightly so but i thought Van Den Berg was great, had a couple dodgy passes but that was more of a miscommunication with quansah than anything and that will come with training and playing together. overall his game was great i loved how aggressive he was when he was the one stepping up then i also loved how conservative he was when he was the only one back or last man, he showed great awareness of where his teammates were at all times. I still want us to buy a centre back ideally but if we don’t i’d rather go into the season with van den berg than gomez at centre back

Be realistic, the Slot way of playing is not in the systems of the players yet. They still searching for it.. give them time. With Feyenoord new players came in a week for the start of the season. The first games were chaos, but after that it started running as a machine

Lets give Endo time to settle into the new role. If we judged players on just one game, some exceptional players would never have seen a very successful career. He's a very experienced and VERY capable player. World class - probably not. Exceptionally good - yes. You don't get to be a club and country captain without some ability and nous. Lets' see how he progresses. As for Bajcetic - he's just back from a long injury. He's going to need time to find form, game fitness and then an understanding of the new role.
