Joe has absolutely nailed how we (Wales) performed in our first WC in 64 years. Ramsey was appalling, plays like he's still in his prime, but can't deliver, offers very little on the ball. Ampadu was fantastic, can see that his game has matured a lot playing out in Italy. Not enough game-time for Brennan, and the line-up against Iran was horrendous. We had just seen them dismantled easily by England and we allowed them to dictate the game, whilst persisting with a 5 back formation, not designed for a game like this. I'll let us off against England though as Page rolled the dice, and tried to win the game (some-what), but he has big questions to answer for now, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him replaced before the euros.

As a Dutchmen myself, I would say that we are the favorites against USA. But they are definitely able to ‘surprise’ us. I think the way USA high presses is what we need because the van Gaal system is really based on playing ‘stronger’ teams and hitting them on the counter. It’s something that has been discussed a lot in the Netherlands as we used to play 433 always. However, I still think that Louis van Gaal hasn’t shaked everything out of his pockets yet, as I expected him to switch more often to 433 in game against the likes of Ecuador and Qatar. It’s gonna be a really open match hopefully and good luck to the Americans ready my comment, may the best team win! 👊

I hope Hudson Odoi & others declare for Ghana in the near future come next AFCON & WC instead of waiting for countries such as ENG, GER, POR, SPA, FRA to choose them, likewise for other nations in the African diaspora. The "bigger" nation, better chance mindset needs to be dispelled because plenty of "smaller" nations would be just as good, if players start declaring for them. Gakpo & Nico Williams, Alphonso Davies, Iñaki Williams younger brother that declared for Spain, along with Odoi would've all helped Kudus greatly & all bossed it for Ghana.

I think that's a valid point that they may not have the same connection with the nation of their ancestry as they do, their adopted one. Although, however big the discrepancy in connection between the two. A connection exists nonetheless, which is why players are able to make the switch. If they still fall within the no more than 3 caps for the national team & they haven't played at the WC or any continental cups. It all boils down to which team gives them a better chance of winning & that's fuelled by personal pride less so than national pride. Before Odoi got injured Bayern wanted to sign him & that speaks volumes to the quality he has. Despite, having not yet returned to that level of form. He's still capable of it & is still on the 3 caps threshold for ENG. My hope is that ENG don't give him that final 4th cap that would close off that door to Ghana. Only to leave him out again and granted if the case is that he didn't merit inclusion, then his exclusion is acceptable. Yet, Tomori who's in the same situation but with England & Nigeria, on the 3 caps threshold, was overlooked for Maguire despite winning Serie A. Is an example of why it may not matter if he did. With KDB, okay he wasn't great at all but he always found the pass before the final ball countless times and then it was just up to the player to take the proper touch and play the ball for a really good chance.... obviously this isn't showing up in the stats, moreover Hamil was spot on...KDB didn't get the ball at the decisive positions to find the pass...they need to be able to get the ball to him when he is in space...

Germany needs to play Gosens at LB & Kimmich at RB but with the license to invert and play as a DM going forward into the upcoming Euros. It's not that they don't have CM/DMs they're, i.e. Neuhaus & Weigl overlooked for Kimmich. This will allow Goretzka to play higher and no I didn't forget about Musiala. I just wish he played for Nigeria and other German players followed suit to play for the country of their ancestry.

germany got done by batyern munic bias (no way they got knocked out if trapp/ter stegen was there instead of neuer who was at fault for 3 of their goals or if fullkrug/havertz had all the minutes that muller did) belgium got done by loyalty bias - no way toby, vertonghen, meunier, witsel, hazard and batshuayi should even be in the squad. harsh to blame KDB at all when he had literally no runners or talent in front of him and even then he still set up mertens who missed 2 great chances and lukaku missed about 5 uruguay got done by poor management. nunez been best this season when played wide left but kept being tried at striker. valverde been best this season played wide right but kept being played centre mid. bentancue been best this season when licence to run forward in a sort of 10 but playes too defensively and in last game when 2 goals wasn't 100% enough to secure progress, they took off all their attackers (even if they arguably should have had 2 penalties in end) this has been a great world cup for drama but i think a lot of the "shocks" are down to the level of international management in the "previously lesser" teams increasing but the level of international management in the "previous bigger" teams getting worse due to bias/loyalty/just poor manager

Fred in that amazing Brazil squad is one of the most baffling things in my opinion. Obviously he's a great player and i wont dispute that fact. But he is not the answer. Nor is he even close to being the best option in that midfield with Neymar out. It would have been worth a shot in this last group game to put someone like Gabriel Mart. in that 10 role & see what happens! He seems to have the tools that would excel in such a role.
