the game was tiring tbf. an emotional rollercoaster. In the first half I thought Mbappe was overrated but after his second goal I was truly humbled and thought France will go on and win because Argentina looked lethargic. Then the second half Messi came alive again and I thought his goal was the nail in the coffin but again Mbappe got them the penalty. There was so many things happening that it’s tiring (in a good way) to watch. What a great finals from both teams

With this win Messi and Argentina have an 'International Treble' of sorts in which they are the current South American Champions for beating Brazil to win the Copa America. Current Intercontinental Champions of South American & Europe for winning the Finalissima against Italy, and of course World Champions for beating France in the World Cup! Messi and Argentina are the first to ever hold all 3 at the same time.

man this game was the greatest world cup game ever, probably the best game i’ve ever watched, crazy that before that first penalty for france, they were absolutely pathetic, my respect for mbappe has blown up since this world cup, what a performance from mbappe, and so good seeing messi with that trophy, what a game

Argentinian team was really running out of gas at that point since France already had 5 fresh players that had came put from the bench while Scaloni didn't had made a single substitution. As soon as Argentina substituted De Paul, Mac Allister and Álvarez who were really tired by running around like crazy, Argentina recovered the ball and started working again, scoring a third goal. It would have been the end for France but they found another lucky penalty. At the end, France got 7 substitutions at 91 minutes (crazy) so basically only four french starters out of the 11 original only ended playing the 120 minutes. Basically, France turned the cards with their physique and some good luck. Had Scalone made the sustitutions at the right time Argentina wouldn't have suffered the physical impact.

Nonsense, you mean one penalty which he did nothing to generate and was privileged with taking and yes an amazing second goal after the Argentinians got deflated with some pretty shoddy refereeing. Not talking about the penalty which you could say is debatable but rather the at least 5 instances where fouls should have been given to Argentina but were not and likely served as the thread that led to Argentina unravelling in the last 10 min of the game. So I'm sorry, Mbapped is a great player no doubt, possibly the greatest of his generation(though we are very far from establishing that yet) but Mbappe only scored one goal and was gifted two others(at an 80%+ chance of scoring) and little else during the entirety of the game. The fact that things even got to the penalty shoot out was out of sheer luck. This was Argentina's game to lose and they very nearly did, and what a tragedy that would have been...and I don't say this as a partial Argentina fan but an impartial observer as I'm sure even any objective person would agree with me.

@@Crypt0n1an its a world cup final with a stadium that is almost mainly argentina fans do you realize the amount of pressure for a 23 year old player who just came from last years euros where he missed the decisive penalty and guess what he not only scores 1 but all 3 i think he has more than earned the "priviledge" to take them because that is one hell of a redemption arc, also how about the fact that 2 other french players ended up missing the penalties or even the goat himself missing in the penalty shootout in the copa america final which led to his short retirement, football games dont operate on statistics such as 80% chance of scoring thats just ridiculous with your logic mbappe is damned if he scores the penalty and damned if he doesn't. Instead of criticizing the guy why not just give him his flowers and be happy we have got to witness players like messi and mbappe give us one of the best football matches i mean for gods sake dude just scored a hattrick in the biggest sporting event in the world idc how those goals were scored that is just insane and we get to see him play for possibly 10 plus years if he doesnt get serious injuries, how can out of all things the first thing to come to your mind is undermining him.
@Crypt0n1an
@Crypt0n1an Жыл бұрын
@@lun4766 Those are just the statistics, most players of Mbappe’s class have around an 80% success rate at penalties(if you think about it i’m paying the guy a compliment, only a handfull of people have a success rate that high). Also i’m not criticising Mbappe, i said he scored a fantastic second goal and he’s one of the best players in the world right now. What i am criticising is this attempt at blowing things out of proportion. It is one thing scoring a hat trick, a tall order indeed but it’s an entirely different thing having two of the goals be from penalties where you just happened to be chosen to take them where chances are heavily in your favor for scoring…and that for 85% of full time he was nowhere to be seen and only came to life after a chance event that revitalized the whole French team after an Argentine team getting frustrated to no end by a referee refusing to grant them the fouls they earned. I’m irritated by the inaccurate narrative that’s making the rounds that everyone seems to be parroting is all, I have nothing against Mbappe he played fantastically after the 80th minute, but he is lionised to a degree that i think is undeserved.

It's amazing how different we think about football in different countries. Here in Argentina we all thought that Argentina was a little better than France for this match, that was France the team that didn't face a Strong opponent yet, and that this was the best Argentinian team in years! Yeah seems the idea behind the France will kill Argentina because they did not play all top 5 teams on its way to the final was completely flawed rationale, Argentina won copa america against Brazil, which had a 36-0 record entering that game (also killed Italy like 3-0 not long ago) , in addition Argentina has an absurd perhaps 40-1 record today.... what would make you think France will run over Argentina. France relies completely on physicality, they do not have a stellar defense and can be shutdown as Argentina showed in WC , if Argentina finished the job without commiting a penalty that game would have ended 2-0 or even 3-0 .... France just came alive after they scored their penalty.

Scaloni's initial setup was just about perfect. Di Maria on the left, exploiting France's asymmetry in the middle. Just amazing. But as the match progressed, France subbed on multiple high quality players, who started taking over the game. A classic case of a much deeper team taking over the match towards the 70th ish minute. The ARG players got tired and mistakes began to mount, leading to the first and second goals for France. Scaloni didn't sub anyone in regular time, other than Acuna for Di Maria, and that sub was probably planned because Di Maria wasn't fit enough to play a full match. Once the match went to extra time, we did finally see a few more ARG subs, and they did regain the upper hand, although just barely.

Don't compare a domestic national championship to the World Cup. It's a different universe of pressure and competition. I american sports and internationals are 2 totally different levels of pressure and competition. was just trying to put into context this final moment the final time we gonna see messi in the world cup and highly likely the w.c finals ever as the last dance for it all.

This narrative of this being an “untalented” Argentina team is utterly ridiculous. It’s an extremely solid foundation with so much quality in the midfield w Enzo Fernandez and Mac Allister and then the work horse that is De Paul. Then up top you have the likes of Messi, Di Maria, and Julian Alvarez. And on the bench still remains the likes of Dybala, Lautaro, Lisandro Martinez, Paredes. This is by far and away the best Argentina team I’ve seen on the field and on paper as well. People forget how unbalanced the 2014 squad was. Sure it had more flair up top w prime Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria, Lavezzi, Messi, etc, but it had a horrible midfield and defense. Demichelis, Marcos Rojo, Garay, Banega, Perez, Biglia, etc. absolutely pale in comparison to the players in those positions today

As an argentinian dude, I'm forced to say I'm a fan of Leo (out of national proud but also out of fear, my brothers and friends would kill me if I said otherwise jaja). That being said, if I was born outside of Argentina I wouldn't be so sure... That's why I understand Ronaldo fans. The portuguese is such an amazing football God, dude he's incredible. I don't believe neither the GOAT debate makes sense since Ronaldo.and Messi are so out of reach for any other player in history and so beyond human comprehension that they belong to a new, whole different category of their own. Ronaldo and Messi can't be the Greatest Of All Times, because they are timeless. The only difference is that Leo plays for a country who has a history of being one of the strongest football powerhouses with other great players in the same team as him. Ronaldo didn't had that luck, Portugal was not that great at football until he came up. That being said, Ronaldo may have inspired a new generation of kids that will make for great football players in the future. In that sense, while Ronaldo's legacy may have not been as succesful as Leo's, I think he may have done a greater impact in the football of his nation than Leo did. Argentina would have been still Argentina without Leo, Portugal wouldn't be what he is today without Ronaldo.

I'm happy Messi won his title, happy Aguero got to be a part of the team and celebrations, but I'm frustrated a lot of these other argentinians won a World Cup. Martinez getting a yellow card for kicking the ball away in penalty shootouts?

There’s a lot of talent in this Argentinian side. Mac Allister, Enzo, Julian, De Paul, Di Maria, Romero, Lisandro e Emi Martinez. More raw talent than 2018.
@oliviaanderson1210
@oliviaanderson1210 Жыл бұрын
2018 talent was shocking, Argentina regularly played Funes Mori, Marcos Rojo, Kannemann (Brazil second tier) Salvio, Pavon, Roberto Pereyra, Martinez Quarta, Armani, Cervi, Saravia (Midtable in Brazil), Franco Vazquez (currently second tier in Italy), Meza (Mexican league), Alan Franco (currently MLS), and more. That was the beginning of this very Scaloni era. Pat is very incorrect to say that this is the least talented team, in fact it’s more talented than 2014

As an argentinian (and Leo's) fan I think the comparison is unfair. There are two GOATS in the history, Ronaldo and Leo. It's just that one of them plays for a worldwide known and respected football powerhouse with other thousand amazing football players, and the other plays for a country that wouldn't have been on the radar if it wasn't for him. Also, while Leo's legacy for Argentina and the world is indisputable, I think Ronaldo will have a greater impact on the football of his country in the years to come. He may have inspired the new generations of portuguese players. And not only that. Ronaldo also taught us all unskilled, "just human" people that you can actually hold your ground against a man who's basically "blessed" with natural talent, by putting effort, working hard and pushing your límits. As an argentinian, no one will ever match Leo in my eyes. But then, I see Ronaldo and I think I may be biased. Ronaldo is such a Monster-God. If there is anything this era of football has proven 100% sure, is that the "GOAT" title should have room for two.

Nonsense, you mean one penalty which he did nothing to generate and was privileged with taking and yes an amazing second goal after the Argentinians got deflated with some pretty shoddy refereeing. Not talking about the penalty which you could say is debatable but rather the at least 5 instances where fouls should have been given to Argentina but where not and likely served as the thread that led to Argentina unravelling in the last 10 min of the game. This was Argentina's game to lose and they very nearly did, and what a tragedy that would have been...and I don't say this as a partial Argentina fan but an impartial observer as I'm sure even an objective observer would agree with me.

He's a talented football player, but... Come on. Mbappé, the one who's said to be "the future of football", at his 23 years old, at his PRIME, can't come close to a 35 years old Leo. As an argentinian dude and a Leo's fan, the only thing I could think of after the final was... "Dude, Ronaldo competed toe to toe with Leo when they were at their prime, for more than a decade..." What does that say about the portuguese, I mean? Mbappé doesn't even come close to those monsters.
