I mean the shows whole premise is the fact that Dexter takes out the people who keep slipping through the cracks. It would be kind of interesting to see him go to court and the whole thing be dropped/he’s found not guilty…slipping through the cracks. It argues the need for Dexter. It would be very ironic as it would thus prove his exact point as to why he’s been doing what he’s done. You could bring Batista and him to that Critical moment afterwards where Batista is debating killing Dexter because he knows he’s slipped through the cracks. If you wanna go ballsy with the ending of this season, have Batista not be able to kill Dexter, and help Dexter escape.

I personally don't think he needs to get caught. I don't understand this obsession some people have with seeing this character imprisoned. One of the best aspects of this show is Dexter getting away with it. The show often leaves you wondering "How the HELL is he going to get away with it this time?" and that's one of the best parts of it all. I have no interest in seeing this show being turned into a courtroom/prison cell drama and I think him getting caught and imprisoned would be cliche. Sure, what he does is reprehensible and you could argue that he needs some form of punishment - but I'd say he already got punished, losing everything and everyone he loved, there couldn't be a bigger punishment for Dexter.

Dexter as a Character Cant continue unless he has Family that he's keeping Secrets from. The only thing that Ever pushes Dexter to grow is the interplay between people he cares about, and the Secrets he keeps from them. Without those 2 components, all a Dexter series can ever be is him getting away with murder until he doesn't. Dexter Needs someone looking for his secrets, and a family that needs him. These components are what made seasons 1-4 Peak, and season 7 Interesting. Seasons 5 and 6 were Hit and Miss because I got the sense that Dex didnt really have a complete family. Season 8 sucked because Dexter had no secrets.

Here’s the thing.. Dexter was made by Harry. We was created by a crazy person, even if Harry had some good intentions. So Harry was his “passenger”, or rather a particular idea of Harry was. Eventually Dexter had to move on from Harry, but in doing so he lets go of the code that kept him free and somewhat “hinged”. But Harry kept him grounded and while he needed to cast off Harry, he still needed to remain grounded, but he had nothing. He has no one now but his own drive and urges that were fed by Harry. So he needed a new passenger. His new passenger was Deb and all the guilt and shame and self hatred that came along with her. His passenger Deb is really nothing like his actual sister, only vaguely and his own perception of what she is like through his own guilt. Guilt and self hatred is a major thing for Dexter right now. He thinks he can’t love and he thinks he can’t feel, but he is wrong about that. So he needs a new passenger. (Or none… but really the passenger is interesting and a crucial part of the show) So he will need a passenger who isn’t Harry, the whack job who helped mold him into a killing machine for “justice” and he needs a passenger who isn’t just his own self hatred manifesting in his mind. He needs a passenger who can help him unlock the humanity inside himself and also keep him grounded. Resurrection, maybe, but Dexter is evolving and he is realizing Harry was wrong but this doesn’t mean abandoning everything he ever learned. I wouldn’t be surprised if his new “passenger” is a revolving door of anyone who has truly meant anything to him or anyone he has ever loved.

Picture this. The season opens, Dexter is in the same small town. Living day by day, he gets a letter from Harrison explaining that Harrison left town and gives us insight into what happened after he was shot. Dexter tries to go about his life normally, even considering being done with everything once and for all. during this moment of him thinking of all his life choices he can go through a deep monologue with him, Deb, and harry. However just when Dexter thinks he can finally just start over and live a normal life, they make more breaks in the bay harbor butcher case. finding clues like the killers methods client list to the m99 base. Putting more evidence on Dexter. around this time Batista is promoted to the same role Miguel was, and Batista is going full forged on Dexter. Dexter moves back to Miami with some way of trying to work things out. around this time he meets up with Quinn. Quinn is lied to by Dexter believing that the only kill he has committed was Saxon, Quinn although sees it as wrong puts it aside because his love for Deb. so Quinn to help Dexter build a case saying otherwise that he’s not the bay harbor butcher. then to end it off a new antagonist gets introduced. This antagonist is worse then we’ve ever seen, Dexter wants to go after him badly but knows he can’t with the feds watching. Harrison joins the last few episodes. Then Harrison dies to the antagonist. Dexter furious and feeling like all hope is lost goes after him, however right when Dexter gets him. (Injects him with m99 or just stabs him) he’s caught, Batista and MMPD where on the same guys case as well. leaving Dexter caught red handed. No way to frame it. in the end Dexter goes to court and awaits trial. during this dexter has some deep very emotional thought, him and harry get into a fight Dexter blaming harry for being manipulative and creating a monster, Deb yelling and him saying how all of us are gone because of him” then the judge slams his mallet down makes Dexter guilty on all his victims. after this the screen goes black, then that same jazz music from the very first episode starts playin and all you hear is “my names Dexter, Dexter Morgan. for the longest time I faked what I was, and who I am. I know see what harm they has caused, I had a normal life. well normal to and extend. however that’s gone now” then it shows clips of his daily routine in jail, then the very last clip is him and his father sitting on a beach, then it cuts to dexters death in the news

If Resurrection follows Harrison with Dexter as a Harry like ghost, I'll pass. I don't think it will work out if Dexter is on the run either. Would just feel forced. I am not a fan of the 'it was a dream' retcon, but it could work that way if he was in a coma after the events of season 8. Wakes up a few years later and Batista is at his side in the hospital. He recovers, gets reinstalled, and is fully resurrected. All of New Blood never happened. The othervway is he faked his death to get Harrison away because he knows he'd be in danger if he stayed. Kurt wasn't the only killer in Iron Lake. There's a roch serial killer "club" and he told Angela that he'll help her take them out. Coach was in the pocket of some of them, including Kurt. He's done dirty work. So he Dexter killing an innocent is retcon. For Dexter to truly be resurrected he'll need to return to his former glory. with Resurrection being multiple on going seasons I'd like for Dexter to return to Miami and kill by his code.

I think the writers will really have a tough time when it comes to ending dexter. From the sounds of interviews they have plenty of ideas on where to take future Dexter stories which I am super happy about if they do, but eventually they need to end it and I can't picture an ending where people would be satisfied. People weren't happy when he "escaped" Miami, and when he "died" so surely the only option is for Dexter to get "caught". I would love to see a series where Dexter is fully on the run, full on man hunt going head to head with Batista. I have an image in my head of the final ever shot of Dexter being him sat in the electric chair and it cuts to black as soon as the switch is pulled.

I’d thought about this too…or alternatively that Hannah is still alive but told Harrison not to tell Dexter (it’d mean he wasn’t actually in care) as she doesn’t think she could take it if he (as she sees it) rejects her all over again (like when he set her up for to go to prison and when he left her alone with Harrison). I’d love their characters to reunite as they had such a great connection. Personally though I think him awaking from a coma after he drove into the hurricane would have made the most sense - just seemed too far fetched his boat would be destroyed like that yet he’d survived! Can’t wait to find out how it all goes down…loving the anticipation!! 😂😍

i'm curious as to what qualifies as "a satisfying end" for some of you cause while the first one wasn't anything to write home about the second was just atrocious. i understand Dexter is what he is but him living a normal life, a lie, forever to suppress his dark passenger and never getting to scratch the incessant itch again is a way more fitting ending to his reign of terror than a bullet or prison time. an alternative would be him forever on the run but that would be just a show about a serial killer fleeing and not one doing his handywork, which is what Dexter has always been about. imo there is no need for redemption as Dexter never needed redemption and the only person he killed that needs to be "avenged" is the cop from iron lake. everyone else got what they deserved. doakes was not killed by him and neither laguerta so those are off the (killing) table

I dont understand why people keep saying that Dexter should get caught or stopped or smth. Dexter might be a bit insane but for the rest of humanity he is unironically a force for good. Ive heard many say that in the show they support Dexter because he is a character etc but if it was irl they'd disavow him and not support him and i really cant understand that, a person that hunts down and permanently removes a threat from society that managed to escape justice, and he does that WITHOUT making mistakes(99% of the time) and he is not malicious or dangerous to everyday people sounds like a dream for every society. No, Dexter shouldnt get caught or stopped, he should be praised and glorified in the new show, he should get a happy ending.

They shouldn't make any Dexter at all, whether with MCH or without him. The first show from 2006 was good enough, though its ending was not the best, but by making more Dexters they are just ruining the legacy of the old one, but they keep making these anyways for money.
