Toronto was ranked one of the worst cities for traffic gridlock.

So the city is looking at ways to reduce gridlock and improve traffic flow.
In part 1, I showed how Toronto's traffic agent program reduces travel times for drivers. Traffic agents/wardens or police officers guide road users through congested intersections, and enforce the rules for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.
In this video (part 2), I show how the leading right turn green arrow phases (protected/permissive) [or leading left turns for one way streets] improves traffic flow and public transit service.
A leading right turn green arrow phase, allows drivers to turn right before pedestrian can cross. This was installed at 15 intersections in Toronto.
TTC streetcars turn right at some of these intersections too.
Throughout the King streetcar priority corridor, drivers cannot go straight. This is supposed to reduce travel times for riders on the King streetcar. Leading left and right turn green arrow phases, allows drivers to turn which clears a path for TTC streetcars to proceed through the intersection.
When traffic agents are present at the King streetcar priority corridor, they enforce the rules to make sure drivers don't go straight! It reduces travel times from 24-48 minutes for King streetcar riders! Traffic agents also enforce the rules for pedestrians, making sure they don't cross during the leading right turn phase.
