Exactly! For this game Amorim tried to protect players that were recovering from injury and used players that had more trainings since Monday. At same time he could not discard immediately prima donnas like Rash or Casemiro even more after Neville comments. Amorim is obsessed with data and now he'll analyse the data and push for those guys that don't run enough. He'll put those guys running or they'll be dropped. He knows the issues, he knows what has to be done, but he needs time. The future will be with Mainoo, Ugarte, Yoro, Amad, Hojlund but he needs them fit and with a good understanding of his ideas.

Until Ugarte and, amazingly, Zirkzee came on, we looked like we don’t have a midfield. Bruno is very visibly restrained now and the Hollywood aspect of his game was kept under a lid for most of the 90 minutes. Suddenly we can’t progress anything through the center of the pitch. Now we all know why ETH did what he did - constantly inverting Dalot and being very vertical in midfield, almost trying to get rid of the ball there. The only progressor in the entire squad is Kobbie Mainoo and his fitness level isn’t where it’s supposed to be. Oh, and Diallo, who was busy being a wingback. I was okay with that, Amorim is getting his bearings with those players. What really got me was the transitions: we see Garnacho receive a lovely long ball from Bruno, he makes a decent sprint and the only red shirt in view is Rashford. I was yelling at the screen, where is everybody? Amad has defensive duties, I get it, where is everyone else? Somewhere at the halfway line.

Yep exactly. Amad had a good game at RWB and I hope that’s not him stuck to that position because of it. Amad and Mainoo in those 10 positions is what we need. Bruno to play alongside Ugarte and there you have the legs in the midfield. Problem yesterday is we had no legs in midfield and Garnacho is just not good enough but good thing about yesterday is Amorim learnt more in 90 mins than we would do in 90 training sessions.

Erikson was annoying today. Too often when they pressed us and the ball was played to him, instead of turning to advance the ball he'd just make a one time pass back to where it came from and we'd end up stiffled having to hit a long ball. We need mids who are more aggressive demanding the ball and turning with confidence that they opposition doesn't matter.

Amorim has a lot of work to do, and after two training sessions, he is still getting to know his players' capabilities and weaknesses. We might want instant change and success, but it isn't going to happen. It is going to take several games to find which players he can fit into his preferred system and those that he needs to discard. Nothing major will change until he has had a summer transfer window to recruit the players he needs to play this system. We possibly need two winger-back specialists, a box-to-box 6, and a CF that actually scores goals and imposes a physical presence. Delap looked an ideal candidate for this role

United problems are easy to identify. 1 they dont run enough on the ball and off the ball. 2 United don't play to facilitate the strikers. Look at city, Aston villà or Napoli they ensure they create chances for their center forward.. 3 playing the ball from the back is really working out. Top work as always. Amorim deserved credit for trying to implement his system, and also for making substitutions at the right time to affect the game. I can't help but think until Amorim sorts out midfield, this team won't progress. Ten Hag couldn't solve this issue in the last 18 months either. And it still remains even more so in a 3-4-2-1 because it's the heartbeat of the side. Complete lack of cohesion playing through the middle third. McKenna crowded the centre and the ball wasn't moved quick enough when needed. It got a bit better when Ugarte came on to win the duels, but still not enough quality in distribution. On the rare occasions United managed to make the big switch after being cornered in one side of the pitch, opportunities to attack came, but more often than not, there was lack of quality in final third. And that switch to attack the space in behind or on opposite flank just didn't happen often enough. Both Rashford and Højlund were starved up front.

The thing is it was apparent from the first half what the problem is for United. Going into halftime I said to a friend, "Amorim has to tweak something because we can't access the central corridors and they keep forcing us one side and then passing options become a problem". I also expected Amad to be the one playing inside instead of Garnacho, I guess the reason for that is the lack of energy of Garnacho(wouldn't track back as well as Amad did but he then also lacks the necessary involvement inside). Dalot was also not so effective out wide, I think Mazroui is more suited to that role, he can take players on and is quite a good dribbler and driver with the ball. I saw this when we played against Bayern in the champions League. Tactically or rather the right "team building" lacked yesterday. The double pivot were not dynamic enough, not involved in play and creating spaces for themselves.

I know it is just the first game but that playing style gave me a headache. We were not able to play out from the back due to the press. May be centre backs should be elite passers. Too many back passes. Amad should play on the right behind the striker and not garnacho. Garnacho and dalot were awful. Hojlund should be our striker instead of rashford. Hopefully players will adapt and this system will look great then.

We have to remember he doesn't get a full preseason to couch the players he gets a few session as only 2 with the full squad. Some couldn't play from the off because of there traveling. It will take time, but also one thing that I will point out is 1. Fernandes kept leaving his position leaving Amad overloaded. 2. Rashford after his goal dropped his head again and just gave up at times. 3. I am not sure Garnacho can thrive in the Inside forward role you can tell he was struggling, but one game we will see how he gets on. 4. Eriksen seemed lost the whole game. 5. De ligt seemed shakey maybe not set for the CCB.

There is some promising signs after watching the game. But definitely still work to be done. I think the trouble is the midfield wasn't mobile. Eriksen tried but he just wasn't capable of pressing and winning the ball back. Both him and Casemiro got bypassed quite easily. Evans struggled massively as well because he doesn't have the legs. Only when Shaw came on for Evans and Ugarte came on for Eriksen, it was only then that the team looked more solid. Attack wise, Garnacho was wasteful with his final ball. Its definitely something he needs to work on because he can be abit selfish and not get his head up. Rashford, honestly, had a pretty bad game beyond the goal. When Hojlund came on for him, the attack looked much better as he was running the channels and getting on the ball. His work rate in the high press also forced Ipswich to hoof the ball instead of being able to play out.

Unfortunately a first game falling after an international break is unhelpful to say the least. Even under SAF they were frequently very disjointed performances particularly if you are up against a team with few internationals who have had two weeks to prepare. On top of that we had players coming back from long term injuries and key first choice players unavailable or jet lagged. Throw into that a change of system and you can see that RA had his work cut out. I doubt he will play that starting midfield again but if he didn’t know before he certainly knows now that getting goals and intensity out of this group on a consistent basis is going to be a huge challenge.

Even though Rashford scored i dont think he fits the system i lamented this before the match. The Ipswich coach knows united players, he knows they cant do much on the counter so he was going to press them. Going long towards Rashford is a waste of possesion because he just cant keep the ball Rasmus has to be played there. Why must Bruno always play 90 mins? He needed to be taken off too. Rashford and Bruno must learn to sit on the bench. Amorim should not make the mistake of sympathizing with these players when they are garbage even though it is the 1st game things have to start early. Play with who works forget names. Amad should have played as one of tbe 10s Bruno though. I just hope we won't have to endure another period of Bruno running around all over again

It seems Amorim has (hopefully) spotted the problems immediately with Utd. He mentioned about decision making and he’s absolutely right. How can a team make 70-80% wrong decisions during a game? That has to change immediately. Bruno and Garnacho cannot play in those 10 roles. Please don’t waste Amad as a LWB. 102km is the second worst distance covered by a Utd team this season. Eriksen was hiding from the ball the whole game. Don't get me started on Dalot. Even throws are difficult for him. Evans and De Ligt struggle to play out from the back. Case and Eriksen are too slow. Evans and De Ligt too.

just hoping that amorim will be persistent with his ideas and play style, abandoning their 'ajax' playing style and adapting in order to accomodate the players was ten hag undoing, abandoning their gegenpress after one game in order to accomodate the players was rangnick undoing. hopes amorim wouldn't go that route and persistent in implementing his way of play to the players. otherwise it will be the same story all over again.

Only striker push the defence line back is Hojlund. Rashford was supposed to do that. But after the goal. He went back to old habits to go deep and wide. Rashford needs to go. He's not a pressing strong forward. He's a wing forward.

What went wrong? That’s easy. Keep the same captain and most of the same, low quality mediocrity, you get the same outcome, irrespective of formations. I found the team selection mind-boggling. Mazroui tells you everything about the players we have. All season, mazroui has performed in every game, even the worst ones. The system and opponent doesnt matter. Hes consistent. Replace Garnacho with mount and play amad in the other ten position. Replace Dalot with Malacia , Shaw replace evans until Martinez is fit. Ugartw replaces Casemiro and play Burno wherw Erikson was playing and replace aRashford with Hojlund.

nothing went wrong. United players are static, they don't move around therefore they are always easy to mark and play against, they are the Premier League's easiest team. Ipswich controlled most of the game. United were lucky to get a point.
